I am looking for a breed of dog (mixed is fine) that is especially good for children, and it would be great if it did not shed much. Thanks for any suggestions!
crazygirlz answered Monday August 28 2006, 5:40 pm: OK.... I have a Havanese. THey are hypo-allergenic, they have real hair ( so they dont shed ) and they are great for kids. They are also very easy to train and are very smart. They love water ( which means an easy bath ! ) '
orphans answered Saturday August 26 2006, 9:30 pm: Hair Dander is a thing you must worry about especially for your chidren...especially allergy season.
A shih-tzu is a very popular dog and sheds very little. It's very friendly if you teach it to be friendly and very intellegent...loyal and smart. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
Nallie answered Thursday August 24 2006, 11:13 pm: A Shi Tzu doesn't really shed, and can be good with kids if socialized at a young age with children. They are pretty much a lap dog, and usually have a gentle disposition. [ Nallie's advice column | Ask Nallie A Question ]

xojennifer answered Thursday August 24 2006, 9:58 am: my favorite breed of dogs is a golden retriever-they shed alot, but they're very loveable. if you wanted a dog that didn't shed, they'd be little dogs but little dogs are energetic, not loveable. sacrifice to dogs that shed: newfoundlands, german shepards...the list goes on and on.
3littlebirds answered Wednesday August 23 2006, 1:51 pm: Okay, so first of all you want to find a great breeder who deeply cares about the puppies they are selling. I'm not sure where you live but the best breeder I have found is located in Isanti, Minnesota. Their names are Shelly and Bob (which explains why they title their company Shelbo Schnoodles). They make special care to pick extremely well behaved dogs to parent the puppies. Here is a link to their website; [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) . They will have you fill out an application talking about your living conditions, what will be the main use of the dog, who will be training it, what gender you would like, etc. If they find that you are a suitable owner, when a litter is born they will post detailed descriptions of each puppy in the litter. You then will fill out a list of which puppies you would accept. Then, Shelbo will choose the puppy that seems to be the best for your individual needs. They will "offer" this puppy to you and only you, and if you choose to accept then you will schedule a time to either meet Shelly and Bob (and your puppy) at their house, or at the airport to bring him/her home. They will tell you everything you need to know about training and what to expect from your puppy. Although these puppies are spendy, I assure you that you will not be dissapointed. The prices start at $800 dollars, but you will be 100% happy with your puppy. If you'd like more information about my personal experience with Shelbo, feel free to ask!! Otherwise I strongly suggest that you at least visit the shelbo website; they have all the information about Schnoodles that you could possibly need to know. Let me know what you decide to do! MummuM answered Wednesday August 23 2006, 1:22 pm: Beagles are a really great dog. They're excellent with children, very loveable and they don't shed. They're also water proof, which is really awesome. ♥ [ MummuM's advice column | Ask MummuM A Question ]
one_for_all answered Tuesday August 22 2006, 3:43 pm: Beagles, they're great dogs, they have short hair, and are extremely affectionate, and don't grow too large so it would easy to have around children. [ one_for_all's advice column | Ask one_for_all A Question ]
Moop answered Tuesday August 22 2006, 2:47 am: this question is sort of like asking, "hey. which race makes a better boyfriend?" there's no clear answer that doesn't contain stereotypes. any dog won't shed much living in a place with one season. it's not in their best interests. and any dog will not be good with children if it's been kicked all day by medical "researchers." go to the local animal shelter. take your kids. have them pick the dog after several visits. unlike cats, older dogs tend to be either much nicer or much meaner than puppies though puppies are "kyooot." they grow up and if not properly socialized they won't be adorable in any respect. xSharpiexLovex answered Tuesday August 22 2006, 1:09 am: get a shih tzu.
i have one they are adorable and dont bite or anything they are very gentle and dont shed at all, they are curious and care for the owner ALOT they love to play and love attention, they are apartment dogs and dont need alot of exercise but exercise is good they are very playful
they are the most lovable dogs and they love affection, and are so gentle with everything they wouldnt hurt a fly
they are very intellegent
but i dunno how good they good be with very young children as they are gentle dogs and they would perfer to be calm and sitting on your lap instead of a HUGE amount of rough housing...
my shih tzu doesnt mind rough housing at all, hes very hyper...so i think it depends on the dog, but shih tzus are a really good dog to get, research them...they are shy at first so you gotta warm up to them
BecauseYouLivex3 answered Tuesday August 22 2006, 12:41 am: I have a what you call a bichon fris (SPELLiNG). It doesnt shed at all. & Personally I think a boy dog is better expecially for childern. Because the girls bite more then guys. All though the boy dogs bite to. But Girls bite more. My dogs a guy & he never bites. There white & they sort of look like a poodle but not really.
xObEaChbAbEoX answered Monday August 21 2006, 11:29 pm: poodles dont shed

Greyskate answered Monday August 21 2006, 10:56 pm: poodles dont shed or barley shed and are pretty playful. if you want a really playful dog you can get a shi-tzu which is wut i have but they need constant attention. [ Greyskate's advice column | Ask Greyskate A Question ]
DancinCutie08 answered Monday August 21 2006, 10:45 pm: i saw people say chihuahua.. those are about the worst.. thats why most breeders dont sell them to people with kids under 10. they are very self centered little spoiled dogs.. cute but not good family dogs
I have a beagle and she is an amazing family dog. shes not a purebred and we think she is mixed with american fox hound and some sort of terrior. She has short hair and the only time you can tell she sheds is on black pants other than that she is great. She is very playful, has alot of energy to keep up, but is very gentle and loving around kids. Also she was extremely easy to train like most beagles are.
Also some poodles are good with kids, but sometimes they have the same drawbacks as chihuahuas.. Its basically the bigger the dog the better they usually are with kids.
Also Grey hounds are extremely good loyal dogs. personally i think they are ugly but they are amazing pets. especially if you get the retired race dogs when they are 2 or 3 years old. They are always in need of good homes [ DancinCutie08's advice column | Ask DancinCutie08 A Question ]
xAskkMechaBeccax answered Monday August 21 2006, 10:34 pm: my answer be a chihuahua as long as you get it as a puppy and train it properly. if you do, they are gentile with little kids yet are fun companions for the older ones. they are also convenient as they can fit in a large purse.
