I came here to answer computer questions. (This used to say "...and nothing more.")

What I meant was, I don't know how much help I would be with other things... NOT that I would be upset if you asked a non computer question!

How should I start babysitting? (link)
Hello there,

I am afraid you are asking the wrong guy.

There is an entire category on the site dedicated to nothing but babysitting questions:

http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?t=28&backlog=2

I am sure that there are many people who are currently babysitting that will be able to assist you with your problem getting started.

Good luck,

DangerNerd.

are you a grown up? (link)
Hello there,

Well, let's see? I am 35 years old, and have been married for eight years. I don't know if that makes me grown-up but it definitely makes me old. :-)

Why do you ask?

DangerNerd.

Hey I asked this question in the 'advice pool' but I figured I should ask you since you said you handle computer problems.

I used to have Paint Shop Pro that someone burned for me but I felt guilty for using it because I knew how illegal that was. I deleted it & decided I would just download the trial because I knew that I had money coming so I could *buy* the full version. Needless to say, I was unable to successfully download the trial version. Near the end of the downloading process, this is what happens:

Error 1931. The Windows Installer service cannot update the system file C:\WINDOWS\...\msvcp60.dll because the file is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly.

Then I click okay and it continued downloading...

Then another box comes up that says: Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced with unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files. Insert your Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM now.

The only problem is, I never got that CD-ROM. My computer came with Windows XP & I never got a disk with it.

Then I click Cancel... & obviously that is unsuccessful because it comes up again but I click cancel on that.

Then one last box comes up and says: Error 1933. This setud requires Internet Information Server 4.0 or higher for configuring IIS Virtual Roots. Please make sure that you have IIS 4.0 or higher.

I click okay & the installation rolls back action.

I had this program before, it's just when I tried downloading it, it wasn't working. I've tried everything, different versions from different sources. I'm going crazy trying because I love this program & I use it alot. If you anyone could help me I would give you the highest rating ever & deffinetly owe you one because I'm in desperate need of help! ♥

Hello there,

I will post the full reply in the public pool question.

Thank you for asking me directly, I hope that this will be of assistance to you.

Hello there,

The first thing we need to do is ascertain the status of your copy of Windows XP.

If you bought a new machine from Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, E-Machines, etc. you may not have received an installation disk.

I know that some manufacturers will allow you to create installation disks from the image stored on the hard drive, but only when you first set up the machine.

If you received a bundle of CDs with your new purchase, the Windows installation CD may not be labeled a very obviously. If you receive no CDs at all, and were never given the opportunity to create an installation set, you should definitely get a hold of the manufacturer or distributor that sold you the machine and get that taken care of.

The most important thing you need to make sure that you have is a sticker stuck to your case with authentic windows XP serial number.

Microsoft doesn't give a damn about the media. You can hop up on any filesharing client and download a Windows XP installation CD. It isn't worth a damn without a valid serial number.

Microsoft has actually done this very intelligently. Through their online authentication service they have made it impossible, or at least very difficult, to run a bootleg copy of Windows XP. This is a good thing if you are an authentic user of Windows XP.

Even if the people you bought the machine from used a generic drive image to create the operating system on your machine, as long age you have that serial number you are entitled to a copy of the windows XP installation CD-ROM.

Make sure they get you one. :-)

If you have the little windows XP license sticker stuck to the back or side of your machine, then you are probably OK.

If you can't find your windows XP serial number, it is time to talk to whoever you bought the computer from and get them to cough up a real windows XP license. Let us assume for the moment that this is not the problem.

The first thing to do is to make sure that you have gone to Windows update and downloaded all the applicable updates for your operating system.

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

This may take some time.

One of the updates should be Windows installer version 3. You can get that file directly by going here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5fbc5470-b259-4733-a914-a956122e08e8&displaylang=en&Hash=PX8TPH6

... This should be one of the first thing should try.

Once you get the updates done, try the installation again.

If you still experience the problem after performing these updates, please
contact Jasc Technical Support at techsup@jasc.com

You can also ask me another question here telling me the steps you have completed and the new error messages that may have been generated and I will continue my research on your behalf.

Please let me know how it goes.

Sincerely,

DangerNerd.

P.S. I will post this in response to your public question so that anybody else having the same problem will be able to get the answer.

ok i just got a horse. she is a liver chestnut mare. i want to know what colors would look good on her (like saddle pads and stuff)....i was thinkin blue but my favorite color is pink lol. and i have always had geldings and now that i finally have a girl i can actually dress her up like one! lol any suggestions? thanks! (link)
Hello there,

While I can't tell you exactly what colors will look best on your horse I can give you a helpful suggestion in finding out:

In paint stores, or the paint section of your local department store, there are color swatches which you can either borrow or take to keep.

Pick out several that are colors you like, take them home and hold them up to your horse. See how you feel about the color combination with her coat. You might be surprised to find that the colors you really thought would go well look awful.

I can tell you right now that pink is a bad idea. Pink combined with any shade of brown is a fashion faux pas that is characterized by a common saying in both the automotive trade and the interior design: "roses in poop." :-)

That may be the only saying in the entire universe that is common to both automotive detailing and interior design.

Please take good care of your new girlfriend, you will be spending a lot of time together.

All around my breasts and on them its all red and REALLY itchy they're little rash lumps aswell. It has just happened when i wore my new white bra but the thing is I have the same bra but in black and it didnt do this?!!? The bra is 100% cottonn and it dont itch with anything else. Why am i itching and how can i make it stop and go away! I tried Eurax fast itching cream but it didnt work please help thanks x (link)
Hello there,

I had to similar situations, with T-shirts, not bras, one was caused by me failing to wash a new hundred percent cotton T-shirt before wearing it. The reason for that was that cotton items which are imported are sprayed or dipped in formaldehyde, the same stuff that they used to keep the dead bodies from decaying before they bury them. They do this to keep the bugs and bacteria from eating the cotton article before you get it from the store.

I broke out in a rash that I thought I would die from. It took roughly a week and a half for the rash to go away, lesson learned: cotton items must be washed before wearing. :-)

If the item is it new, then example number two may be of interest to you:

Once, shortly after I got married, we picked up the wrong fragrance of laundry detergent by mistake. My wife washed the laundry, and when I put on a T-shirt, within hours I started to itch like mad. We threw the detergent away, washed everything over again in a new detergent and chalked it up to experience.

I hope your problems are so easily solved.

Sincerely,

DangerNerd.

hey guys i was just wondering were i havent got nothing to do this summer i was wondering what good books i could read this summer like books you could get at a public library. Thanks for your help i really need something to do other than sit at the computer desk all summer!

Saylor (link)
Hello Saylor,

If you are looking for horror, may I suggest Stephen King's "It?"

One of the best books I have ever read up until the last hundred pages. The last hundred pages could be considered absolute proof that Stephen King uses drugs, lots and lots of drugs. :-)

One of the neatest little books I have ever read is called "The Screw Tape Letters" it was written by CS Lewis.

In fantasy, I don't think anything will ever beat Terry Brook's Shannara series. There are lots of books in this series and I have personally read the first eight. None of those suck. I can't vouch for the rest, but his track record is very good.

If you are Christian and want to read a couple of things that are not boring, very entertaining and generally awesome look for two books by Ray Comfort:

Hell's best-kept secret

And:

What celebrities believe

Both of these can be listened to an audio book format absolutely free, which is really cool, by going to the following link:

http://www.livingwaters.com/listen.shtml

If you know the actor, Kirk Cameron, there is a version of Hell's best-kept secret done by him which is also available there.

Those are two of the best books I have read in my life.

It was really interesting to see what celebrities believe about basically everything. You would be surprised at some of the quotes in this book I guarantee you.

Even if you are not a Christian the humor in both of these makes it worth your time.

If you have any books you would like me to read, make sure you tell me when you leave feedback.

Have fun this summer,

DangerNerd.

On a scale of one to ten how much does it matter to a guy when looking for a gfhow heavy she is? I mean not obcenely heavy but definately not thin.

Just looking for insight into a guys mind!! (link)
Hello there,

I am afraid that this question is not easily answered.

The reason this is not easily answered is simple: it depends completely on the person you are asking about.

To some guys (most, probably) because of their programming (what they are told is sexy by the people who run television and media) they want somebody thin. Too thin, sickly thin.

They don't care if she is as dumb as a box of rocks. All they are after is somebody to have sex with and dump.

Some guys like plump girls. There are more than you would believe. Check web sites like:

http://www.bbwfa.com

When I was younger I always thought that I would end up with a tall, relatively thin, athletic woman who would be a practicing martial artist.

The woman I fell in love with and married had nothing to do with any of those thoughts. She is short plump cute as a bug's belly button and has an IQ over 170.

I was looking for an intelligent woman I could have a conversation with. When presented with the perfect woman in a package that I had not previously considered desirable I found myself questioning why it was, exactly, that I felt this way.

As soon as I discovered that I had been programmed from birth to like whatever was in fashion at the moment, my eyes were opened and I saw the beautiful creature that God had saved just for me all those years.

We have been married over eight years now, and I have no regrets whatsoever. She is irreplaceable to me.

Now that I have probably bored you to tears, here is my actual advice:

Some guys are obsessed with what ever the current fashion trend is. Everybody and everything go out of fashion and style eventually. Any man who is obsessed with the current trend will desert that woman when she is no longer fashionable to him.

Do you see what I am saying here? Even if you were a clone of today's hottest fashion model, and somebody married you today, you would be out of style in approximately 10 years.

Look for a guy that think you are the greatest thing ever just the way you sit. If you find somebody who thinks you are cute just the way you are in his world obviously revolves around your happiness you will never go out of fashion. :-)

I am a homeschooled girl, I'm turning 15 in about two months. I am doing this program for middle schoolers, where I go and pick up tons of work each month. Apparently, theres so much, that its hard cramming it all in a month, but I manage to get it done the very beggining of the next month, meaning I turn it in late. This happens, because either I didn't have parents take me because they were gone, or I wasn't done. Most of the time it was just not going on time. I expected a lot from myself when I was in public school, my grades were always in a high range. But now, I am failing three classes. Ever since I saw my grades, I have been feeling guilty for eating, sleeping, or doing anything I want because I shouldn't deserve to do what I want. I am so full of stress, I think that maybe another reason. I see a therapist that takes both of my parents sides, and my parents are divorced, but they still fight. But, I'm not going to drown myself in excuses because I've managed to do well in the past. There are lots of other stressful things going on, but I am just really scared that I'm going to get held back. I havn't finished the month of May, I tried to last night, but those thoughts of being a failure took over and kept me from concentrating. I have no idea what to do with the present work, but I do have goals for high school, I might be staying home again. Could anyone share some advice that could help me get my stress out and my future thoughts in?

I'll definetly rate because of the length of this question. It will be more than just thank you. (link)
Hello there,

It is odd that you should ask this question just now. I just finished answering a question where I typed out most of what would be my answer to this question. What are the odds?

Please read this answer:

http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=277304

... And let me add a few more things:

Some things I didn't mention in the other question as I didn't find them applicable at the time were that I was doing double workload at some points and had no social life whatsoever.

In addition to scheduling time off to do absolutely nothing every day I also started practicing a very wonderful martial art called Aikido and met a lot of wonderful new people. This led to my involvement in computer clubs and the eventual presidency of a local computer users group.

Starting a large quantity of social interaction right as I started junior high school would probably have been the best thing I could have done. I have the experience of looking back on it from a distance now and I can tell you safely that homeschooling, while you are likely to be well ahead of practically all your peers for the rest of your life, will destroy you socially if you don't get out and do things.

I don't care what it is, it doesn't have to be a martial art, it could be dance class, it could be shopping 101, it just doesn't matter. One of the most important things you will learn in your entire life is how to deal with other people. If you don't learn this as soon as possible it makes life depressing. Brain the size of a planet and too shy to have an intelligent conversation with anyone. :-)

I have a project for you: Read the posts on this site from people your own age... You, at 14, write more intelligently than 99% of the people on this site.

You are way ahead of your peers, but if you burn out completely at 15 what does it matter?

Some of the people who are total wrecks later in life were very brilliant in their early years. Don't let what happened to them, and what almost happened to me, happen to you.

You are so far from being a failure it isn't even funny. I, for one, am very proud of you for dealing with this in adult fashion.

You know there is a problem, and you have chosen to seek an actual answer. Most people your own age, especially with a therapist, would be strung out on some kind of mind altering antidepressant drug.

The local school system tried that on me and it almost ended my life.

What you have here, is a short-term problem. You will recover, you will do very well, and this will all fall by the wayside soon enough.

Don't sell yourself short, never put yourself down as it seems like that is the job of 90% of the people in the world and they are very good at their job. ;-)

I don't think you realize how advanced you are for your age. Have your IQ checked with an age-appropriate exam and see what you think after that.

My parents didn't tell me what the results of the initial homeschooling IQ test revealed... The year I went back for a year of public school I was tested not once, not twice, but three times and been accused of cheating. They had a hard time with seeing a number of 178 repeated over and over again.

Homeschooling works. It works as well as your parents work. Your parents have as much to do with your success or failure as you do.

If your parents have a problem with that idea, ask them what they would do if you were failing only one class in public school or had to do an exceptional amount of work in that class in order to keep your head above water.

If they are as smart as you are, they will admit that the teacher is either failing you as an instructor or not seeing you struggle with the situation and putting in the extra effort to see you succeed.

My father was an Army Ranger whose drive and determination to see me succeed frightened me at the time.

My mother was very kind and recognized the areas with which I was struggling greatly she helped my dad to see that I would never be the math genius that he is and comforted him with the knowledge that at five years old I could spell better than he can today. Nobody is perfect of everything.

The symmetry of these two together is what caused me to be able to finish high school at 12 years old.

Because your parents have split up you don't have that balance and assistance. That puts a great deal more work on your shoulders.

I don't know what your workload is like, but if there is something which is not a requirement for your current grade may I humbly suggest that you drop it until you catch up?

In homeschooling the parents are supposed to do roughly 50% of the work. If your parents can't put that time in then you have to work around them.

In Japan, if a student is held back the teacher is severely disciplined for failing to do his or her best to help the students succeed.

While there is no hope of implementing this in the public school system here, it is a lesson that all homeschoolers should learn.

You are absolutely not a failure. You are doing all the work was only half the help. That is why you are swamped. Do you have one parent there with you helping you through the lessons all the time you're working on them? That should be the way it is that is how homeschool works, and why very few households can make it work. My mother was a stay-at-home mom, and my dad would help me as much as I needed for as long as it took every night after he got home from work. Without that support I would have been exactly where you are.

Even with that support I still ended up where you are for a while. So that makes you better than me.

You are free to e-mail me or ask questions in my column directly if there is anything that I can do to help you succeed.

I was wondering if anyone could give me a small list, or even the biggest one you have of anti-depressents aside from Paxil, and Zoloft, I've been on those and they don't seem to help, so maybe anyone who knows of one thats worth a try. I'll rate 5 foe those who try, even if you only have 1 listed.
(link)
Hello there,

You are probably going to hate me, but I will tell you what I'm thinking just the same.

I have watched several people who were close to me have their lives completely destroyed and their health ruined by use of antidepressant drugs.

Those are long stories and I won't bore you with them here.

All I ask of you, is that you take some time and type the name of the drugs you have already been on one at a time into a search engine such as Google.com. Look at the horror stories of people who have been on those very same drugs.

There is an underlying rule that I found true in my own life, and you may find true in yours:

If your life is depressing, you will be depressed. Taking drugs for it may solve the problem temporarily but will add addiction to your list of depressing problems.

The answer for me, myself, was to make my life less depressing.

I started to learn more about myself, and actually made a study on who I was and who I wanted to be.

It turns out, that the answer for me revolved around the fact that I was homeschooled part of my life. I was a good student until the work started the pile up on me.

I was absolutely and completely at the end of my rope. My parents were basically saying to me: "you did the work last semester, why can't you do it now?"

Nowhere in my mind could I find an answer. That's when I started to study my own life. About halfway through this project I discovered that my school curriculum had me working 40 to 60 hours a week. I found myself doing schoolwork six days a week. I would sleep through Sunday completely, get up and repeat the events of the previous week.

In elementary school we have a thing called recess. Sometimes we even have it several times a day. Guess what happened to me?

I went from elementary school classwork, doing wonderfully, into junior high school, where I thought I was going to have a heart attack trying to keep up with the work.

In elementary school, even a homeschool curriculum, you get recess multiple times per day.

In junior high, even a homeschool curriculum, you get lunch as a break and that is all.

I sat down with my parents and discussed this with them. They were astonished at themselves that they didn't see the problem!

That started a long series of adjustments to the curriculum and workload. Pretty soon I had the weekends off and would get in trouble if I even tried to do schoolwork.

I am sorry, I just realized this is turning into a novel. :-(

Let me shorten this up by saying:

I figure doubt what was depressing me and fixed it. My life hasn't been depressing since. Oh sure depressing things have happened, but they have never kept me down since I learned to fix things rather than just let them step on me.

Unfortunately I didn't fix this problem before social services stepped in and decided that I should be in public school for a year, was diagnosed as clinically depressed and put on lithium.

Let me tell you about that experience really quick... While on lithium, I couldn't be called depressed because I was emotionally flat line.

Nothing, nothing at all, was exciting, boring, depressing, full of joy, nothing. Every day was the same until one day something exciting did happen.

I was waiting for a bus one day, when at the bus stop a man walked up and insulted a woman who was sitting there waiting for the bus with me. I don't remember now what it was that he said, but it was enough to reduce her to tears.

I attempted to, and very nearly succeeded at, killing him.

I had completely and totally lost my ability to tell right from wrong. Exciting, no?

Nowadays this is a commonly known side effect of prescription lithium. It took 30 years for them to admit to it. In 30 years they will admit to the side effects of the drugs you are currently considering.

Do that search engine search I suggested before you decide to try out anything else.

Sorry for the long answer, but this one really hit me close to home.

My wife's memory has been severely damaged by her being prescribed Ritalin and Prozac as a child. This was totally unnecessary. She was put on these drugs because she was brighter than her teacher and all he wanted her to do was stop asking the tough questions.

My mother-in-law has been on psychotropic medication since the 70s if it has been manufactured she's been on it and it has not done her a bit of good. She has done some of the absolutely most incredibly stupid things I have ever heard of while under the influence of these drugs. Most of them, even if I could list them here you would not believe!

There is so much more I could say on the subject, but I don't want to bore you to tears.

Sincerely,

DangerNerd.

I liked your answer to the question about the baby names. It was unique and helpful. =)

-xluvinux (link)
Hello there,

Thank you for the compliment. :-)

I felt so bad about not suggesting a list of names that I went back and edited my answer.

When I started thinking about what names actually mean to me personally, it really made me sit down and think about why I like the names I like. The whole thing was very educational for me.

It is amazing what we can learn from questions that look very simple on the surface, isn't it?

DangerNerd

Hey everyone,
My sister n law is having a baby, and she just found out today that she's going to be having another boy! I was wondering if anyone could help me out, and suggest any boy names pretty much that you can think of. I already suggested about 45 names to my brother, and he hasn't liked any of them! He's the most picky person I know! I know alot of the common ones people use these days, so if you can try not to suggest some of those. Thank you so much in advance! I really appreciate it! I'll rate you a 5 if you try, cuz I'm a really nice person. :-)
(link)
After I recieved feedback on this I felt guilty for not naming names... So here goes:

Logan... As in Logan's Run the movie.

Colt... In the fourth grade I renamed myself Colt. This was really funny, since I was in a classroom with all the same kids I was in the third grade with. :-) My parents were not amused.

Maximilian... that is the common spelling, but I would change the lettering some myself. The name gives you an abbreviation you can live with, Max, while still looking extremely impressive when printed on business cards no matter what business the boy goes into in the future.

If you look at name charts for popularity based on birth registrations, you will see a trend back towards biblical names and names that were common in the 1950s and before. I think the reason for this is all the people who receive names in the 80s that they really hate. The people they look up to and respect have names like Leo, Jim, Max, Charles, George and the like.

When it comes to biblical names I like Matthew simply because it is the gospel that, in my mind, is easiest to read, best presented, and contains a great deal of information that the other gospels leave out.

I really like the name James, as it is my dad's name. He is a retired U.S. Army Ranger, Pathfinder and a master carpenter. Without a doubt the most intelligent (to a fault), physically fit, and manly man I have ever met.

I know the reasons for that last one or all personal, but since you asked it made me think about what different names really mean to me. James represents every thing I ever wanted to be as a man and didn't quite measure up to.

Thanks for giving me something to think about.

DangerNerd.

Begin original answer here:

Hello there,

While I don't have a baby name to suggest I have a favor to ask:

Try and have mercy on the baby by a thinking up a name that won't sound stupid in 18 years. I went to school with many people who were children of hippies... names like "Rainbow" and the "Star fire" sound cute in the late 60s but when you are 18 years old and you're a boy named rainbow it can be difficult to get a date for the prom.

Basically, what ever names are trendy today... Don't pick one of those. :-)

I have a friend and she is one of my best freinds and she is really nice when hanging around me but when she starts hanging out with one of these popular girls at school she starts calling people retards and idiots and gay. we hate this one girl at school and we talk about her because she gets on our nerves. after that, the next day right after she has talked about her she goes behind my back and hangs out with her how do i get to know if she goes behind my back and talks about me and just hangs around me because she wants to tell people what i say and stuff that i do???? Hello there,

Some people are just like that. It is what they do to make themselves feel important, and they do it to everybody.

Don't think for one second that she isn't doing it to you behind your back.

Boys go through this also... My favorite example from my youth:

I went to school with a guy who I thought was my friend. He lived next door to this girl that I really liked, so I asked him about her. He called her all kinds of names! Really bad things he said about her you just wouldn't believe it.

A couple weeks later this girl walks up to me in the lunchroom and tells me that she doesn't appreciate the things I have been saying about her behind her back. I just stood there like immediate because, number one I liked her, and I also had no idea what she was talking about.

Turns out that my "friend" liked her, and to avoid me asking her to a dance he said all these vile evil things about her to me, and then went behind my back and told her that I said all those very same evil vile things about her... They went to the dance together. :-(

Get rid of this person before they cause you any harm, that's my advice.

Hello Brittany,

Welcome to the club! My dad is at war with my uncle Mike, and has been for over 20 years.

My extended family is huge, and I miss a great many of them. By huge, I mean 147 cousins.

If you can find out what they have been arguing about, it might help you to figure out what to do. As has already been pointed out, there is not a whole lot that you can do about it if they are bound and determined to be angry with each other.

My dad had an exceptionally good reason to be upset with my uncle Mike. Mike, almost got me killed when I was eight years old. He lied and told the rest of the family that it was my dad's fault.

I was there, and it was not my dad's fault. Because Mike was so one to tell the entire rest of the family about the situation, he, of course, told it from his unique and completely false point of view. It was some time before my dad even knew that the rest of the family was aware of the situation. By then it was too late to undo the damage that Mike had done.

I really do feel your pain, and know exactly how you feel. You want to be the one to fix things so you can all be together again. Me too. :-(

I honestly don't care if I see Mike or his family again for the entire rest of my life. The rest of my aunts uncles and remaining hundred and 45 cousins are priceless to me and I would give anything to be a family again.

I have only one suggestion which may or may not do any good:

Sit down and write your uncle a letter. Tell him that the situation has been breaking your heart for all these years, and you would do anything to make things right. Ask him what the problem was. If it was something stupid they may not even remember.

The tears of a young woman have moved many a mountain of a man to do things they never thought they would.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

okay ... you see lately my mom has been getting me all these babysitting jobs that i really dont want. i've asked her to stop and she has, but one mother wants my to babysit on a regular basis! she has three kids(2, 4 and 6) and i really cannot handle them. the middle child is pretty good, but the 2 year old cries a lot and the 6 year old is always being mean to the middle one and i cant take it! can someone please help me find a way to tell the mother i cant babysit for her regularly. thanks so much! Hello there,

I would tell her the truth. When she leaves them with you, she probably tells them to mind you. Well the oldest one obviously isn't minding. Maybe she will actually make some consequences for them if they aren't good for you.

A good babysitter is hard to find. You chase one away and your parents will be very upset with you. I know I chased a few off when I was younger.

If the situation is such that you wouldn't want to babysit them even if they were all good, then tell her that three kids are just too many to handle by yourself. She will understand. She probably feels the same way. ;-)

Hello there,

Many women have this situation.

In general, if you are very fair skinned, this is considered normal. The tan may help.

Many guys find fair skin and all that goes with it attractive, but you might not find one for a few years until you get into a more mature age group.

On the bright side, most girls with that situation end up with big boobs. So if you wanted that to happen, just wait. :-)

You are normal.

Hello there,

Yes, it is time to put on some weight. Better to have that problem than the other, right? :-)

I have a BARELY three year old lactating mare. She just turned three two months ago. She was accidentally pasture bred when I bought her, and at the time, she didn't look pregnant. When she was pregnant with the foal, she looked healthy - but not pregnant. She had the filly right after her third birthday. The filly is healthy enough, but her dam isn't. My mare is constantly sweaty. She could be expected to look sweaty because it's summer, but this is unhealthy! She's sorrel, but during most daytime hours, she looks bay because she's so sweaty! She looks very sickly; she doesn't weigh enough, and has rain rot very bad. I'm treating the rain rot, so that's not a big problem, but I feed her 4 pounds of oats and sweet feed in the morning, 2 pounds at noon, and 4 pounds at night. She is not gaining any weight. I've been feeding her this much for over a month and a half and still nothing. She should look at least a little better by now. The filly looks very healthy, though she's very sweaty too. I think the filly's sweatiness can be attributed to all of her baby fur which is very thick and her being very dark colored. (She's going to be black when she sheds out; right now she's a dark dun color) My other mares and my colt are not nearly as sweaty. My bay mare is sweaty around her flank, my chestnut mare is sweaty around her throatlatch, and my chestnut colt is sweaty around his flank - but my lactating sorrel mare is sweaty all over her whole body. This mare is on a regular de-worming routine, she gets lots of clean water (I change the water daily), eats plenty, so I don't understand why she's so unhealthy looking and sweaty. Do you have any ideas or cures? Should I call the vet immediately? Thanks!

Hello FunnyCide,

I am afraid I have forgotten the exact name of the ailment, but an acquaintance of mine who was raising Clydes once told me of a similar situation he had with a mare.

It turned out to be a bacteriological infection which was passed to most of the animals sharing the same area. This may, or may not be the same thing, but it sounds strikingly similar.

He lost a foal before he realized what was going on.

If it is hot where you are, your horses may be in grave danger.

I know the vet is an expense, but you may be able to describe the symptoms over the phone and have them give you an idea if this might be something else, which is common to your area.

I understand that horse vets are a little more free with the phone advice since you know as well as I that they make plenty off horse owners in the long run.

Give your vet a call in the morning and see what she/he says.

God bless you for obviously caring so much. Many horse owners treat them like toys: Take them out ride them, put them up wet and abandon them until the next time.

Let me know what happens,
