Some odd literature
The Rum Diaries - Hunter S. Thompson
On The Road - Jack Kerouac

-- ANYTHING by V.C. AndRews. PaRticulaRly "FloweRs In The Attic" [that one is also a movie, so enjoy the book.. then enjoy the movie!]
-- ANYTHING by MaRy Downing Hahn!! PaRticulaRly "Daphne's Book" and "Jellyfish". She's without a doubt THE most RemaRkable wRiteR I've eveR come acRoss. I **despise** Reading, peRsonally.. so if an authoR can get me to PICK UP a book.. they must be GREAT, but to have me NEVER BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN.. they must be SUPERB!!
-- Also, RobeRt C O'Brien's "MRs. FRisby and the Rats of NIMH", and all of those in the seRies [about 3] aRe all wondeRful.

Michele answered Saturday June 11 2005, 8:21 am: Great question. I love to read. Go on OPrahs web site and see her book recommendations. ANY book that she recommends is excellent I have read most of them. GO on Barns and Noble web site, you can also search for Oprah's list on the B&N site. Kite Runner is just out, that is a great book. The lovely bones, (about a young girl who is murdered, but speaks to the reader from the grave, Any book by Toni MOrrison,
I think right now Oprah is recommending some of the classic, but the books on her list from last year too are great. REad some books by Dr. Laura, that will give you something to think about. I love to read books about life in other countries. LIke Reading LOlita in Tehran, about muslim women to risk their lives to start a book club n IRAN, and read secretly, they cannont read what they like when they like, like you and I can.
Any books by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, are good.
Well that should get you through the summer. I love to read, I am always surrounded by books.
You will grow up to be very smart and very articulate and knowledgble. Good luck to you.
DangerNerd answered Saturday June 11 2005, 7:06 am: Hello Saylor,
If you are looking for horror, may I suggest Stephen King's "It?"
One of the best books I have ever read up until the last hundred pages. The last hundred pages could be considered absolute proof that Stephen King uses drugs, lots and lots of drugs. :-)
One of the neatest little books I have ever read is called "The Screw Tape Letters" it was written by CS Lewis.
In fantasy, I don't think anything will ever beat Terry Brook's Shannara series. There are lots of books in this series and I have personally read the first eight. None of those suck. I can't vouch for the rest, but his track record is very good.
If you are Christian and want to read a couple of things that are not boring, very entertaining and generally awesome look for two books by Ray Comfort:
Hell's best-kept secret
And:
What celebrities believe
Both of these can be listened to an audio book format absolutely free, which is really cool, by going to the following link:
If you know the actor, Kirk Cameron, there is a version of Hell's best-kept secret done by him which is also available there.
Those are two of the best books I have read in my life.
It was really interesting to see what celebrities believe about basically everything. You would be surprised at some of the quotes in this book I guarantee you.
Even if you are not a Christian the humor in both of these makes it worth your time.
If you have any books you would like me to read, make sure you tell me when you leave feedback.
