hi, for my english coursework, i need to describe the bronx, and what its like to live there e.g.. i live in the uk, so i cant go there to see what it looks like and write the description. i need to use all of my senses. any help? thanks

Ah the good old Bronx. Home of the Yankees, though I prefer Queens since it is home of the Mets.

What does it look like?
Lots of low income apartment buildings, streets, some parks.

How does it smell?
Not good much of the time. Car fumes and garbage lol.

What will you hear?
Gunfire, people screaming at one another, rap, trains and buses, lots of talk about the Yankees lol.

What will you taste?
Lots of good Spanish food.

What will you touch?
Concrete jungle.

Tough borough of the city to live in. Especially the South Bronx.

About how much do speeding tickets cost in NYS?

Depends on how much you are over the limit. Also; the violation points that go onto your license depends on how much over the limit you are. If you have over 11 points against your license in an 18 month span; your license will be suspended. I'll put it to you this way- 3 points is just for 1-10 mph over the limit.

Hey Mike, I heard today that a friend of mine takes protein drinks and he says (apparently) that they even taste good. I was a bit hesitant about taking some myself because I thought it would harm me if I didn't take the right one or do so properly. Is it true that after you to take those kind of drinks, you need to be really hydrated and keep drinking water all day long? I mean I'm willing to try it, but I'm only 17 and have been skinny all my life. I' have some muscle here and there, but I have trouble putting on weight no matter how much I eat or change around my diet. My diet is mostly carbs (bagels, cereals, pasta, rice) and protein (dairies, chicken, beef, beans, eggs). I'm not sure if I should do anything different, because I'm not aiming for an Arnold Schwarzenegger body type - working out to get stronger, be in shape, stay healthy, and maybe even have a nicer body by summertime. So if taking those drinks would help me, I'm willing to give it a shot. I know that it takes time and hard work to get results [too many girls think there really is a magic pill out there]. What are your thoughts on this one? Thanks a lot.

Protein shakes are just a food supplement and an easy convenient way to get enough high quality protein in your diet. They're perfectly fine and very beneficial to an exerciser if there is enough whole nutritious food coming into the diet, so go for it. I personally prefer Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey protein- double rich chocolate and vanilla ice cream are my favorite flavors with cookies n cream as another fav. Made the right way; you would swear that you were drinking a milkshake. But keep in mind- it isn't candy and it isn't supposed to taste like candy.

im around 5'3 and weigh around 117ish (doctor scale said 124, home scale says 115.. very confusing). im not fat, im muscluar but have some parts i dont like about me. over the past 1/2 a month ive been eating really well..


breakfst- cereal and a fruit

snack- handful of crackers or veggies/fruits

lunch- sandwitch, crackers of some kid, fruits/veggies

snack- something small (always healthy)

dinner- a typical meal differs each day (always healthy)


is that good? i mean i dont starve myself cause im never super hungry. i dont eat junk food really, and i gave up sweets for lent. when my friends and i go out walking around i dont get starbucks or other things like that. i am good with my selfcontroll mostly. i am in cheerleading but the season isnt started yet, and i usually walk somewhere everyday and go on my trampoline. is this okay? any pointers? also i do crunches and other little exercises all the time

You're doing good. I would just add in a little more protein to that diet and cut those handful of crackers down to a few crackers with some peanut butter for more fat and protein mid morning.

You're 14 so don't worry about it too much; you're doing fine- just take it slow and steady.

I just got a membership at a local gym with my mom. They have all kinds of machines, so many that I don't know what to do. I'm planning on going 3-5 times a week for about an hour. What are some routines I could try? Like if I should stay on one machine the whole time or alternate and switch machines a few times. I want to have an efficient and effective workout while I'm there.

You're wrong.

High reps doesn't tone. Cardio and clean eating do.

The treadmill is just as effective as running on pavement.

Doesn't matter if you're doing reps with 300 or 30; weight training builds muscle.

Al's answer was well balanced and a full body workout not a recommendation of doing curls (and what curls do you recommend? Scott curls?, Zottman curls?, Body Drag curls?...and the list goes on) and one kind of advanced triceps exercise in Skull Crushers. Where's the recommendation for Back and Shoulders?

I'm a 13 year old female,I'm 5 foor 7 inches and I weigh 122 pounds and I'm not fat (pretty muscley and tiny bits of flab in small amounts) I eat A LOT of food in a meal and snack when I feel a lil hungry (a chocolate here,a banana there) I take vitamin C,D Omaga 3 6 and 9 essentials and a multiy vitamin for wemen.I am pretty healthy.

Breakfast : careal or a blueberry beagl if any breakfast.

10 A.M. break : dunk-a-roos,yogurt,animal crackers

Lunch : Ham or chicken w/ cheese and mayo sandwitch,juice box/water bottle

Supper : A meat (beef chicken pork),with rice,potatos,fries or something and pop or juice or water.usually big double portions

Some people just aren't into the veggies; they don't hurt though. Your Omega 3,6,9 is good, you don't need anymore vitamin C and D if you're already taking a multi.

As far as your diet goes...is it healthy? Not really, but it's not horrible and you least make an effort and have a pretty good supplement plan but that's not enough. Breakfast is iffy> If the cereal you're referring to isn't oatmeal or farina then it's not good. Bagels are never good.

Lose the mayo on your sandwich or have the fat free kind. Go with chicken over ham, cut out that juice box.

Cut out the fries at dinner and eat pork sparingly.

You're 13 and have all the time in the world to perfect your diet and exercise programs so don't worry too much, but just use this as a guideline kind of. Good start though; good healthy attitude.

i am starting to chew gum more to keep me from eating and snacking on stuff i dont need to. is this good? all the gum i chew is like orbit or something like it, but its all suger free. is there anything bad about this new habit?

No. It makes you hungrier for one.

More importantly when you chew gum, digestive enzymes in your saliva are secreted and the stomach raises its amount of hydrochloric acid in anticipation for what it thinks is food. This means you are eating away your stomach.

you're answers are funny. ahah, but anyway.. my question. does lifting weights only make the top of your arm bigger, or does it work on the bottom too? because it just seems like the top is getting bigger for me.

Depends on what part of the arm you're talking about and the particular exercise you are doing. For example Preacher curls target the lower biceps while Incline Curls tend to work the upper bicep due to their angle. Or it could be the triceps.

If you're talking about your forearms; then yea those will get bigger as you progress and you gain some grip strength.

what happens when you eat too many vitamin tablets in one day? i just ate 3 and i wanna eat another becuause they taste so good! lol its the childrens ones.. its kinda like the flinstones tablets but they are kinda bigger. it says to only eat 1 daily though.. what could the side effects be? idk..

Depends on the vitamin if it's water or fat soluble. Vitamins A,D,E and K are fat soluble and you stand the most chance of overdosing on them but it takes a whole lot and usually over a period of time. All other vitamins (B and C for example) are water soluble and very hard to OD on. Now if we just use some common sense when the bottle says to take one- then just take one and you won't have to worry.

I have heard a number of things.. and there all different.. My Q is... is it called child molesting.. or rape or whatever for someone over 18 to date a miner, Date... with no sex.
Please anwser only if you know the correct anwser... no assuming.. just facts.

1. Why would someone want to date a 15 year old girl when you're 18 or 19 years old? How desperate or ego driven must one be?...girls are more developed and more mature when they're your age at 18 or 19 lol. That's creepy/loser-ish. Anyway...

2. I know everyone has this perception that 18 is the be all end all age in every single state. It's not lol. Depends on your state so check your state's Penal Code (That thing called Google). Speaking for NY- age of sexual consent is 17 years old. Don't quote me on this but I am pretty sure that if the person is 15 or 16 than it is a charge of Sexual Misconduct and if they are 14 or below then it becomes a Statutory Rape charge. As far as dating...well you're arousing enough suspicion dating a minor that you might as well just forget it.

I'd worry about some irate dad kicking some guy's ass before I worried about the statutes though.

Hello Mike, I want to have broader shoulders. But since I'm a girl, I don't wish to have manly-broad shoulders. My frame is kinda too small for my head and it makes me look unproportionate.

Do you have any specific exercises and nutrition that I should adhere to?

The key to broadening the shoulders is pressing; not laterals but laterals never hurt.

You're a girl and I won't recommend a lot of the stuff that I do, but similar lol.

Seated dumbbell presses, Military press and some front and side dumbbell laterals thrown in is a nice routine for the shoulders. As far as nutrition goes- it's just eating clean and eating frequently.

Not only will broader shoulders help you with your head problem lol; but (and this goes for males and females)the broader shoulders will make a little bit of an illusion and make your waistline seem smaller.
