Question Posted Thursday November 3 2005, 4:17 pm

Right well we got a swimmin pool built in our school last month and when the girls are on their periods they aren't allowed to sit out but are forced to use tampons!!!!!! I haven't been on since it was built but oomg. I am so scared. I have never used a tampon and I'm never GONNA so don't suggest I do. Isn't it like illegal to force us to use tampons or somethin? My friend even got her rents in about it and they still made her use tampons!! What can I do on swimmin days that I am on? I'm not using a tampon but I'm not standin in the changing room arguing bout whether to use one or not with the PE teacher its embarassing!!

I think this is terrible - and it's an infringement on your liberties (or something).

I think your best bet is to ask some of the parents to get together and contact the Head Teacher - a group of parents will carry more weight than just one or two speaking up individually.

I wish you the best of luck - I can imagine how distressing this is.

go to the nurses office during that class?
i was afraid to use a tampon the first time, im not gonna try and convince you, i just wanna say it's not half as scary as it seems, and i honestly think they're so much easier - easier to carry, don't feel like youre wearing a diaper thing all the time, dont ever smell! lol.... well good luck!

Well if you refuse to wear one (it ain't bad or scary AT ALL) I guess you'll just get A) Written up, B) Kicked out of class, C) Get in the pool w/o one and embarass the HELL out of yourself, or C) You'll have to do something really, really scary! WEAR ONE! *gasp* lol. It's not that bad really. Nothing to be scared of. Good Luck! :)

I can understand the reason for wanting the girls in swimming class to use tampons, but they can't exactly force you to use one. If you don't want to use tampons, just don't do it. Don't take a class that would require you to wear one when you're on your period, rather than a pad. Unless you have to take swimming... then I would just say that I forgot my suit at home.

They can't force you to wear a tampon. All it will take is one parent to threaten a lawsuit.

I think this is something to discuss with your mom. Have her talk to the school principle. :)

urmomsachltcvrddnt answered Thursday November 3 2005, 7:35 pm:
Okay, well, I AM going to suggest using a tampon. They're NOT scary, no matter how much you think they are. It doesn't hurt if you use a junior one. Every box of tampons has an instuction sheet. Use a small, hand-held mirror if you can't find the right hole. If you don't believe me about it not hurting, talk to your mom. If you use her tampons, it WILL hurt, so ask her to buy juniors or slim fits. Don't be stubborn about it (no offence, seriously! it's not really a big deal). If you need the instrustions, send a question to my inbox.

i think that is totally ridiculous. if you dont want to use tampons (like me...i dont EVER want to use them) and they are trying to force you to do it...gets your parents involved. or simply refuse. dont fight just refuse. start a revolt. i am sure there are other girls who feel the same way but are too scared to do or say anythign themselves. maybe skip class on days your on your period (not something i suggest, but htsi is a different situation than most)

ScratchesOnTheWall answered Thursday November 3 2005, 4:48 pm:
tampons are easy to use but there's no way in hell they can force you to wear one to go swimming at school.

Get your parents to write in and yes, downright refuse to get in the pool on days you're having your period. Obviously if you use it as an excuse every week they're going to know you're taking the piss but if it's genuine there shouldn't be a problem.

I assume you're fairly young since this issue's only just come up and I know it takes a while to learn to stand up for yourself of these sorts of matters but do try to simply TELL your teachers you are NOT going to be swimming today as you are on your period and are not comfortable wearing a tampon. What are they going to do? Shove one up there?

I'm working myself up into more and more of a righteous frenzy about this so I'll end here! But it's your body, don't let anyone try to make you believe it's for them to decide what you put in it-that's the crux of the issue.
It would never stand up in a court of law so don't let them bully you outside it.

no its not right for them to do it. they cant force you to do anything. and if they do you can get the court in on it. so just tell them your not going to swim. they cant do anything about it! they cant like throw you in or anything. and if they threaten to give you an f take it. then tell your parents and have them get the court in on it because trust me i know, they cant force you to use tampons or do anything you wouldnt normally.

that is totally not fair! no one in school teachers, principals, anyone can make you use a tampon to participate in swimming! i say if you dont feel comfortable using one, then don't and if they have a problem with that, then either you or your parents should visit the board of the school or the principal. personally, i havent used one either and i would never let any one force me. please, make it a big deal because im sure a lot of other girls feel the same way as you hope i helped and good luck!

Shortie8959 answered Thursday November 3 2005, 4:33 pm:
Hey, you might not want to hear this, but using a tampon is actually very easy. If you go to [Link](Mouse over link to see full location), it explains how to do it, and it is very easy. If you still don't want to use one, I wouldn't worry about it too much, because when you're in the water, your period stops temporarily. I'm not sure why, but it does. I think you should be fine. But if you're still uncomfortable, I would suggest skipping the swimming days, although you might get in trouble, I don't know. Sorry, but I hope I helped a little. ♥ Erin
