azngemini answered Monday August 29 2005, 6:13 pm: i have to wake up at 6 toooo, but it takes me like an hour to get ready and an hour on the train.
i take showers in the morning, and that kind of wakes me up pretty well.. and sometimes i drop by dunkin donuts and get myself a cup of iced coffee.. which usually does the trick. eating/drinking anything cold will probably help make you less sleepy. and if you have an iPod or a cd player, just listen to it at the highest volume. that ALWAYS keeps me awake.. lol [ azngemini's advice column | Ask azngemini A Question ]

K2204 answered Monday August 29 2005, 4:31 pm: get up right when your alarm clock goes off, dont watch TV to help wake you up or hit the snooze button. just get up! that truly does help! also, if you have that clean and clear morning burst facial wash or scrub, i use that daily, and it really does help to wake you up. if you dont have it, maybe you can get it tonight, or another time that you go to the store. If you have time, take a shower, and let the water run on your face. if you can, play some cool "tunes" and listen to music while you get ready, not slow songs, but some cool fast and songs that you just wanna hop up and dance and sing along to. And make sure that you eat something! and if you have time do a quick dance routine or something of the sort. like maybe a quick workout or something! :)
thats what i do!
anything else, leave one in my inbox!!

TheOldOne answered Monday August 29 2005, 3:20 pm: As usual, younggrandma hit the nail on the head. Your body needs a certain amount of sleep, and without that sleep, you're going to be tired. There's just no way around it.
But if you're not a morning person, there are some other things you can do to raise your energy level in the mornings.
Try getting a plug-in timer (they're cheap) and attaching a lamp to it. Set it to turn on ten or fifteen minutes before you have to get up. Don't place the lamp so that it's shining directly into your face, but make sure that a decent amount of light falls on your pillow.
This will allow you to wake up more naturally (the light mimics the rising sun), and feel more rested. There are alarm clocks for sale with that timed-light feature (some include a slowly increasing level of natural noises), but those tend to be expensive; if money is short, you can pick up a simple timer pretty cheaply.
Just to be clear, the timer and lamp shouldn't *replace* your alarm clock - they're an ADDITION to your alarm clock.
Another thing to do is make a schedule, and then *stick* to it. If you go to sleep and get up at the same time every day (even on weekends), your body will quickly pick up the rhythm. That's easy for me to say, of course, and not necessarily easy for you to do. But if you can stick faithfully to the schedule for a couple of weeks, you should find that it gets easier and easier.
Develop a set of regular habits about going to sleep and waking up. Once get yourself into a regular schedule for sleeping, you'll sleep *better* and will wake up feeling more rested and alert.
By the way, it's a good idea to avoid eating anything for at least two hours before going to bed, and of course you should avoid caffeine in the afternoons and evenings.
In the morning, try drinking unsweetened fruit juice. That will boost your overall energy and help wake you up.
One more thing: if you're not taking multivitamins, you might want to start. I take one before I go to sleep every night, and I find that I have a lot more energy as a result.

Laura answered Monday August 29 2005, 2:00 pm: Go to bed a little bit early, and in the morning, take a shower and eat something like a granola bar, or something good for you. Get up earlier than you need to because if you only have twenty minutes to get ready, you're going to be rushing around and even more tired. Give yourself time to wake up! Hope that helps...good luck.
