it isnt as bad as most people say it is.
tampons are not uncomfortable at all anD the string has a very small chance in coming off.
i promise you will get used to the tampons very quickly and i wish you the best of luck

Teza answered Monday July 18 2005, 2:28 pm: Its alright to be scared. No one wants to have their periods at all! It doesnt hurt. I mean you might get some cramps once in a while but no biggy its normal. First start using pads. Tampons are'nt scary. Stop thinking like that. lol. The string rarely comes off and its pretty long so it wont. It wont get stuck or anything. I have been using tampons for about 2 years and nothing bad has happend. ll ♥ ll [ Teza's advice column | Ask Teza A Question ]

XflirtyXpinkX answered Monday July 18 2005, 2:01 pm: Getting your period persay does not hurt, infact its painless, except you might experience cramps(they hurt) if you get cramps take excedrin to ease the pain..and the string wont come off your tampon they are design to be put up there and to come back out... and yes it would be best to use tampons to go swimming..all and all i would use a tampon anyways there alot better and more comfortable..
DONT WORRY!

Nevaeh314 answered Monday July 18 2005, 1:40 pm: Hey. Really, don't worry. Sometimes getting your period can hurt, like you can get some minor cramps in your lower stomach, and some people get some muscle cramps in their legs, but exercise can reduce this, and medicines like Pamprin and Midol, or any other painkiller, can take care of it if it's really bothering you. Don't worry about the string coming off a tampon, they're really fixed on good, like sewn completely into the inside and everything. I've used them for years, and the string has never come off. And they don't hurt, you can't feel them at all. Especially handy if you're really into swimming. Hope all goes well, don't sweat it. [ Nevaeh314's advice column | Ask Nevaeh314 A Question ]

rkgurl13 answered Monday July 18 2005, 1:01 pm: well it depends on the person and how old your mom was when she got hers and stuff and for me it didn't hurt but for some ppl it does and that is normal. and scence you will first be getting it then you probly should not go swimming your friends or whoever will understand and you shouldn't use tampons at first. and some times scence you would first be starting then it might not even last a week.
hope i helped! [ rkgurl13's advice column | Ask rkgurl13 A Question ]
esoccer1717 answered Monday July 18 2005, 12:59 pm: I was freaking out in 6th grade because i had a boy teacher! It's tottaly natral to be scared. You have proble heard this from every one but don't worry, its gonna be allright.
TIPS:
-try talking to the school nurseor a favorite teacher to calm your nevers
- i go swimming with pads all the time just wear shorts or a coverup
-carry around a few pads with you in a purse or backpack
-don't worrie about tampons, i still don't wear tampons!
-remember just because some other girls are getting there periods dosen't mean that you going to get yours, all girls mature diffrently
x0xMrSm answered Monday July 18 2005, 12:57 pm: don't be scared. it happens to everybody. and it's not uncommon to get your period in 6th grade (i'm guessing you're going into 6th grade since you said that 5th grade just ended lol). i got mine REALLY early, but it's okay. you just have to get used to it and learn how to deal with it.
you don't have to use tampons. when you're younger, you're not really supposed to use tampons. and if you have it in the summer when you would go swimming...just don't go swimming (since you don't want to use a tampon...and you like can't wear a pad in water)
and yes, *sometimes* it hurts when you have your period. it's just because some girls get really bad cramps. if you ask your mom if she had/has them...then that will determine whether or not you'll get em too (cuz it like runs in the family or something...) and don't be embarrassed or scared to ask your mom questions like that. she'll be happy that you feel comfortable enough to talk to her.
needadvice answered Monday July 18 2005, 12:41 pm: your perod will not hurt or anything all you'll get is cramps and bloating and sometimes you might get food cravings dn't worry about the tampon and all the the tampons string is sewn into the tampon so it won't detach or anything and if you're still scared i reccomend you not go wimming at all! AskAndy answered Monday July 18 2005, 12:41 pm: Chill. The summer going into 6th grade whas when I got my period, just like the girls in your grade. You may get cramps, you may not. Ask your mom if she did because if she did, you most likely will too. I wouldn't use tampons yet because if you wait a year it would be more comfortable. Ask your mom what year she got hers, and expect it around the same time. Stick to pads. And do't drink caffine because you will get cramps. www.puberty101.com may beable to help. xoBrowneyes answered Monday July 18 2005, 12:36 pm: Some girls do get their period in 5th grade! My doctor said that it depends mostly on how much body fat you have the more you have the faster you will get it but that doesn't happen in all situations. I am 13 and haven't gotten mine yet!You can even not get it till your 15! You will usually get cramps when you first start your period (this is just what i have heard because i have't had mine yet) but they will go away as your body gets used to it! I wouldn't worry about it when it happends it happends. If you are worried about the string comming off i would give the strind a tug a few times to make sure it won't be comming off before i used it but i don't think that that will happen! I don't know about the tampons and pads while you swim. I would start using pads when i first get my period the after a few times i would switch to tampons and only use the little ones! Hope this helped! You should talk to your mom about it if you feel comfortable! If you have any more questions just search me as a columnists and go to my column and ask me more about it! don't worry about it!!
rainbowcherrie answered Monday July 18 2005, 12:34 pm: Calm down, There's no need to be scared.
The actual period itself isn't what hurts, it's just the stuff that comes with it. Some girls get stomach cramps around the time of their period. These can be severe but it's rare and there are plenty of things you can do to stop them hurting. If you get them then just take a pain killer, drink a soothing drink like hot chocolate, take a warm bath and put a hot water bottle or heat cushion over where it hurts. If you can't do any of those things then try some gentle stretching or excercise, it does help.
Most girls find tampons a bit scary at first, but once you get used to them you'll wonder why you were ever worried. The string of a tampon is sewn in right from the top and is very hard to come off. Try taking one apart, you'll see that it's quite difficult. If the string does come off for some reason then it's nothing to worry about, just relax and gently take it out with clean fingers.

horsesare666es answered Monday July 18 2005, 12:32 pm: oy vey. You most likely have awhile until you start yours. When you first start, don't use a tampon, you need to figure out your flow and such and you need to ask how to put one in, if you put it in wrong it hurts like a bitch. Also, cramps, only some people get them. i get them really freakn bad but so did my older sister and mom. if yours didnt you might not get them so bad. if you do sports a lot when your period does come cramps aren't so bad. don't go swimming with a pad. just avoid pools/oceans for that week. and dont take the pad off and not wear a tampon and swim in the ocean. sharks like blood and we've had enough shark attacks in this area. the string doesn't come off so you don't need to worry about that. if you have more questions drop something in my inbox. its nothing to be scared of really.
