I noticed how people bribe in their questions, as in "I'll rate a 5 if you answer". Isn't advicenators supposed to be about HELPING? What happened to the world?

i think it's just because people want others to answer, really badly. like they want people to help them yeah know? so they say "i'll rate 5" because people want higher ratings. so they answer. && everyone's happy! so yeah, some people bribe, && i dont think it even matters much. but yeah i noticed that too && im not even sure many people care. hope i helped, kind of.

Acually, i was just thinking about that. I became a member of advicenators because I like giving advice and helping people. I think thats really what this place is all about - even though many people seem caught up in the competitive aspect of it all. Good Question though =)! --Isabel

They do it because they want qthere questions to be answered. Most people think thats the only way to get rated or to get there questions answered.

People say they'll "Rate 5's" in hopes of getting moRe Responses-- sometimes it woRks. Often times they *DO* get moRe Responses, but it's just that the answeRs aRe cRap, because people feel they can say anything foR a fRee five.

I know what you mean. I aviod putting that in my questions. Honestly there is nothing we can do about it. If you have a moderator status just rate it a =( or =|. Thats the only thing you can do. Or ifyou don't care about ratings tell them that while answering there questions.

I agree! Anyone who is willing to follow blindly just becuase somone is giving advice should be careful. As for "I'll rate a 5," most people should not answer becuase of empty promises; no rating is guaranteed.

Hey.. people say ill rate '5' beacuse they might need the answer 'pronto' or are desprate for help. I rarly answer questions that say ill rate 5 anymore. And you are totally right about the helping and world thing!!

I don't know. I hate it when people say that. "Well congrats. You can rate a five. I can rate a five, too. If I want to that is. Maybe I don't want to. Maybe you give really crappy advice. Then I'd have to give you a five because I promised." What a lame ordeal. I don't answer questions because they say "I rate 5" or "I rate high". I answer questions that sound real and actually look like the person wants/needs advice. You're right. They're trying to bribe. <b> Ugh. How stupid. </b> Sadly enough though, those bribes actually work for some people! There are columnists who only answer if you promise to rate them a five. How stupid is that? They'll actually say "I will rate you a five if you answer!" and then they have to rate you a 5 no matter what. I hate that. Grr. Yes, Adviceantors is supposed to be about <u> helping </u>, though, sadly, it's not always about helping. Sometimes people abuse Advicenators and use it just for chatting; other times they only answer stupid answers ("go eat pie") or they only answer for the rating and they'll say "ok, I answered. Give me a 5." Urg. You're right. Very, very, very right.
