why is everyone i know obsessed with the rapture?

Question Posted Saturday April 2 2005, 1:40 pm

Teen christianity is becoming an enormous problem. In hordes normal children are being brainwashed into believing their elders that the world will end within their lifetimes.
As a result kids aren't just kids anymore. Everything that used to be "fun" is suddenly a "sin." We're busy thinking about heaven and our church before we hardly even had a chance to see the world, and we're waiting for the "world to end."
What a crock of sh**. I personally don't even want to go with Jesus if there is an apocolypse. I never was attracted to Christianity. Your parents shove it down your throats before you even have a chance to thin for yourselves. It's a religion created by old men, for old men, and against personal gain or women in general. Well, being an AMBITIOUS woman and a FEMINIST I want nothing to do with this faith. I know I'll be getting some violent attacks from all of you brainwashed little turds about how right you are and wrong I am, and I'll sit here and sigh and understand because you're in a box that you didn't necessarily put yourself in.
So here is my question- what makes you believe anyway?

We have made a choice to believe in whatever religion we choose. You don't get into heaven just because you love God, or anything like that. You get into heaven if you believe that God sent Jesus Christ to earth to die on the cross to wash away our sins. The fact is, thought that if you truly believe that, more than likely you're going to have a love for God anyway. What makes me believe, is knowing that there IS God, who put me on this earth for a reason, and he loves me and everybody else because we are all his children, whether you believe in him or not,and I know when I die I'll spend eternity in heaven. That's what makes me believe. God Bless!

well im a teen christian and honestly, i made the choice to be. sure, im raised by catholics but i too questioned why the hell anyone would believe in anything like that. honestly, my parents couldnt care less whether im catholic/christian or islamic; i made the choice once i could truely see that there is some power greater than i that made everything good. its a simple as seeing a prayer be answered that can make anyone believe. by belonging to a religion, you dont have to believe everything you are told. you have to have one solid belief and then it will lead you from there. i dont know what faith thinks the world is going to end but thats a bunch of bullshit! if they had any faith in ANYTHING they wouldnt think the world is going to end. against personal gain...thats a harsh way to put it. its to not be selfish, not poor and a missionary. its also not against women. we worship mary, the mother of our God. feminism shouldnt be a conflict with this. you have a right to an opion as do i. i dont mean to attack you, but i want to make clear that there is nothing wrong with christianity. i wasnt pressured into it. im sure some are, but that does not mean every christian is. <3

I don't agree with you about saying that kids didn't even get the time to think about what they want to believe, if you were a christian, wouldn't you want your child to be christian too? If you were a democrat, would you want your kid to be a republican? No, probably not. If a child is so curious about, they can read about other religions, if they want to be curious and change their mind to create teen rebellion, thats fine. But you are better off sticking with what your parents believe, or close to what they believe. Otherwise you're going to make life harder, not that parents should kick you out for believing in something different, but could you imagine a Christian and a atheist living together? It would be hard for a christian probably, and they wouldn't shove it down their throats, they'd just tell what they believe, and its not to be rude, its to believe in something and explain it to your child so that they can feel less confused aboit why the world is here and who created it. They lay out their beliefs, and there nothing wrong with it. Christians don't think they are right either, they just have a lot of belief in God and Jesus, and they have faith, and maybe they have a hard time seeing religions that don't believe in God, and have a hard time watching people put down god, and they just wish others were as greatful for him and Jesus like they are. But I hope that helped.

ahh faith ... I was turned away from a best friend of mine who turned evanglist and decided that she could no longer accept people in her circle of life that were not die hard Christians. I myself have no "real" religion. From what I gather, people who claim to be christians, catholics what have you ... go to church on Sundays and feel sainlty, but do what the rest of us saps do the rest of the week. I just believe in being honest with oneself, to others, and taking in what this life has to offer ... I follow along the lines of thinking of buddhism ... not really a religion but a way of life ... I'd say continue figuring out works for you! There is nothing that says it has to happen now. Perhaps in 50 years, Christianity will be it, but apparenlty it's not now. In my eyes everyone has the potential to be a good person no matter of religion, race or ethinicity. Sometimes it takes a life changing event sometimes a personal enlightment ... but I agree ... explore explore and explore some more what this life has to offer you before you come to a decision ... let me know your thoughts if you have the time!

Missa8305 answered Sunday April 3 2005, 9:26 pm:
Well, I was a Christian once upon a time.

Then I believed it because I had been raised Christian. I had went to church as a child, read the Bible, and listened to whatever my parents had to say about the matter.

But then, when I was about sixteen, I started going to church on my own. I became a very active member, which ultimately, did not brainwash me, but turned me off of organized religion...probably...forever.

It just didn't make sense to me. The idea of a loving, but very angry God. A God so angry that he would actually send someone to hell just for not loving him back. Oh yeah, and that part about being a man...Is it just me, or does anyone else realize that for God to be a man, he would have to have a penis? And is it just me, or does the idea of God having genitalia strike anyone else as hilarious?

However, I still believe in God and I still believe in Jesus. I believe because I don't understand how I could love or forgive if a higher power didn't endow me with those qualities. And I believe in Jesus because, well, I've read what the man has to say. And I think that his overall message of peace and love is a good one.

While I do admit that I often sneer at organized religion, any organized religion, I know that I shouldn't be sneering. Religion was orginally invented to create a path to the higher power. I may not agree with some of those paths, but I recognize that they are paths just the same. If you're a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Wiccan, Buddhist, Hindu, or whatever, more power to you. I don't care how you connect to the higher power, just so long as you do. I may write off some of your spiritual ideas as ridiculous, but I respect you and so, I have to respect your ideas to.

hey there....first of all, I don't agree with you that kids today are realizing that they commit sins. I NEVER hear christian or catholics in my school ever talking about or waiting for "the end". Today we are so busy with wondering how we need to look better, how much we DONT have, and how other people are so lucky, that we don't realize our sins.
However, I am a muslim, and I try my best to follow the rules of Islam. Praying & reading quraan, (& staying away from alcohol, pre-marriage relationships, showing skin) do not prove that i'm a good muslim. I don't stop myself from committing sins because I have faith & I beleive, I beleive & have faith because there is someone who stops me from committing these sins. It's not my parents who control my mind, If I want I could go behind their back with every little sin in the world, & yes they would find out, but that doesn't mean they would stop me....* It's that beleif I have in my mind that there is a god, that is showing me the right way.

Im not christian... im muslim... but Islam and christanity (sorry if i spelled that incorrectly) have a lot in common... the only difference is Islam is stricter... so let me tell you what makes me believe in my religion.. the fact that whenever i have a problem... one way or another it works out in the end... and i believe that it works out because God loves me and wants me to be happy... and i feel like i have felt so many signs from God throughout my life... (personal stuff that im not going to mention here)... and im sure you have experienced it to... when you feel like everything is falling apart and there is no hope... all of a sudden things turn around... i believe that is a God sent miracle... if you feel like you have never experienced it is probably because of your lack of faith... believe in God... and many great things will surely happen!!!

dude... that was mean. God loves you soooo much. He sent His son to die for YOU. because He loves YOU that much. you should be on your knees thanking Him, not insulting him. you said, "Everything that used to be "fun" is suddenly a "sin." no it's not! fun: hanging with friends, playing outside, playing with pets, hanging with family.
not fun: sex before marriag, stealing, hurting others (physically and emotionally), drugs, drinking under age. that's just a few examples. Christianity doesn't teach the world will end in your life time. the bible does give signs as to when the rapture will happen. some of the signs have already happened. so i do think that there is a chance the rapture could happen in my life time. why would you choose hell over Heaven? i really feel sorry for you. i hope to see you in heaven with me. i really do. oh yeaand what makes me believe? faith.
xoxo
i'll pray for you, and for all non-Christians

1.we're not brainwashed..we can believe what we want to believe, but it just so happens that we trust that our parents are telling us the truth.
2.those things that "used to be fun" were sins back then and are still sins now.
3.the end of the world is near..so you better be ready
4.as far as not wanting to go with jesus, what kind of stupid idiot doesn't want to go to heaven? would u rather burn in the lake of fire?

you seriously need to reconsider, because God is in contol

well i am a christian and i have gone to a catholic school for 8 years of my life.. and yes you may call me brainwashed but i do believe in the christian faith.. yes i doubt it sometimes because its hard to believe in faith when you see good people dying and wars and things like that.. but think of it this way.. everything has its start and finish.. our world started but where did it start at? thats why i believe God did it becuase it had to start somewhere.. the world will have to have an end too because nothing will last forever.. and i have still had fun in my life time.. we all sin no matter what.. God helps us see his world.. he made it for us and he wants us to enjoy it through the good and the bad.. God gave us a freewill to believe what we want and to do what we want.. i dont wait for the world to end because i know when it does it will be millions and millions of years from now.. ive been raised to learn these things and i dont know how to think any other way, so yea i could be "brainwashed" but its what i believe.. and its ok that you dont.. i hope i answered your question

What makes me believe? Faith.

There are many different forms of Christianity, because people are humans, and humans make mistakes. Look at all the different denominations of churches out there... Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, Baptist... there are hundreds. And interpretations of the Bible: KJV, NIV, The Message, NLT... again, the list goes on an on.

I guess all I'm saying is don't judge all Christians by your experience with a few. We're not all brainwashed fundamentalists.

shake answered Saturday April 2 2005, 3:28 pm:
God Damn that was well said. Now, you have to wait on the hater teen to become enraged you just offended their beliefs. Heres my take.

God is an asshole.
Hes very rathful, if you dont listen to him he kills you. Look at moses, he hit that stone in anger and he had him killed.

He told someone to kill his son and then when he was about to do it god told him to stop, hes was just joking.

Angels are viewed as nice ferries. Angels in truth are gods assasins. They arent nice, and they're jealous of us humans because god envies us more than they. Angels dislike us with a passion.

Christianity will concentrate on the new testament because its full of nice and loving jesus. Why dont they concentrate on the old testament? Because its all about god and him being a angered ass who kills everything. Its true. I know i used to go to one of these christian schools. I believed it for a while now im agnostic.

They believe because they are scared. Having something to believe like that is comforting. They want to know that when they die they wont just be a corpse whos years of life and happines are gone forever. They want to know that their souls will ascend into a place of even more happiness.

The way i view it, beliefs have changed over the years by that i mean many many years. Before it was multiple gods. Now its one god. Soon this religion will be shit and we'll go and believe some new one. It'll be a while and we're no where close to it now, but i strongly believe this isnt going to be the last religion.

S_C answered Saturday April 2 2005, 3:11 pm:
What makes me believe? Probably the fact that I was brought up to believe it. Also it's the only answer I can get to the question "how did everything get here" Yes, science could be an answer, but how did the first human get here on this planet if it weren't for God? How did earth and the universe form if it wasn't for God? I mean I've always wondered where god was, did he just appear one day and create all this stuff, and if that is what happened then how did he just magically appear? Or more so, WHERE? I figure the world must have been just white, like a canvas before a painting (that almost sounds deep... weird) and God made a beautiful masterpiece. Then he made Adam, his roughdraft, then he made Eve, his final masterpiece, and then he made the snake, and the apple she ate which made her like smart and stuff. And then Pandoras box which when she opened let loose all the evils and stuff like that.

The main reaason I believe is it's a good way to answer questions I have. And I was brought up believing. I've gone to church since I was like 1, and everyone around me, family, neighbors, and some friends believe in something, so it's just natural to believe. I'm not going to 'attack' you because I have friends that are athiest and stuff, and I see where they're coming from, because it's a hard concept to grasp, and I understand when they say they don't believe. Besides, everyone has their own opinions, and you shouldn't be attacked for having a different one.
I guess I'm not completely sure about what makes me believe, but I'm glad you asked, because now I'm starting to just think about things. Wow, GREAT question!! Hope I helped in some way or another. ~ <3 always, Kate

Michele answered Saturday April 2 2005, 3:10 pm:
I agree with you sort of. Religion as you know it on earth, was created by old men. And I too had it shoved down my throat all my young years. 8 years of catholic school, and church two or three times a week.....
I do believe in God and Jesus, and if the preachers here on earth reallyed acted christian like, they would be a lot different. Most of them are selfish, and egotistical, and say you have to believe in their way and their way is the only way. Well not true.
Did you know that christians, jews and muslims all beleive in the same GOD? yes it's true. They certainly all act different don't they. I think the 10 commandments are great, and the golden rule. do unto others as you would have them to unto you. Live a good life and don't deliberately hurt anyone, and be kind and thoughful and be happy, and GOd will love you and you will be welcome in heaven when your time comes. I think God and Jesus look down on this earth and see some of the preachers and preists who claim to be holy, and they just laugh. I'll bet they can't wait for them to die so they can send them to hell.
I don't know how old you are, and you may have to put up with this stuff if you are a minor child and your parents are responsble for you. But soon you will be old enough to take care of yourself, and you have the right idea. Just be a good person, and you'll be fine.
