There are good reasons that your parents have asked you not to get it done. The main one being that it might go all manky and green and infected!!
If you have your heart set on having it done then sit down with your parents and talk (not argue!) to them. Explain why it is so important to you and see if you can't come to some sort of compromise!!!
hopeihelped answered Thursday January 20 2005, 10:10 pm: STOP! RIGHT NOW! DON'T DO IT!
Reasons why you shouldn't do it:
1) Your parents said no
2) You're still living with you're parents, so
you're probably young
3) You would risk getting an infection getting
it done by a professional, so think of the
risks you'll be taking if you do it by
YOURSELF!
It isn't worth it! Just wait until you're out of the house. Save yourself the pain. Keep respect for your parents.
HellsBells answered Thursday January 20 2005, 8:40 pm: Don't do it yourself. BOTTOM LINE. I wanted my navel pierced for years and finally had it done just over 2 years ago. It was done properly in a salon, sterilised needles and it was frozen with spray and it was still quite painful. I can't imagine if you did it yourself. As for infection, I cleaned mine everyday as I was told with savlon spray and tea tree oil and it still got infected. Luckily because I had my piercing at a reputable parlour they had an "after sales care" service so I went back and they sorted it. I know we never want to hear it but our parents have these rules for a reason. Maybe you can get some leaflets or info on piercing and educate them. Or make a compromise with them. You keep your room tidy for a month? Walk the dog every day? Help without being asked. Parents can be quite easy going once you've built up a trust!!

1) if it gets really bad infected then you might not be able to have kids
c_assi_e_x_12 answered Thursday January 20 2005, 8:03 pm: Well, first off, if you don't even know what you're doing, then maybe you shouldn't be piercing it yourself. There are risks of infection and ugly scars. You should wait until your actually ready and then go to a professional.
Sp0iLeD_SheDeViL answered Thursday January 20 2005, 7:54 pm: Well i should warn ya first, it's really dangerous to do it yourself. You could get an infection. But, if u really wanna do it, make sure you use alot of ice and numbing ointment.Like the kind they use at doctor's offices. And make sure your needle is steralized.I dont know what size needle, go to a tatto and peircing place and ask, or u can even ask a person at claire's what kinda needle to use.
thisorthat answered Thursday January 20 2005, 7:50 pm: Really bad idea. You could give yourself an infection.
I can tell you that you should use a gold plated pin to pierce it. You should dip it in isopropyl or ethyl alcohol(rubbing alcohol will do) to try to get any germs off of it. You can also heat it with a lighter first to burn off bacteria and then use the alcohol.
Even after all that you will be exposing your blood or an open wound to air and inserting a foreign object into your bloodstream. It's really a bad idea. And even after burning and alcohol there is no guarantee that you won't injure yourself or get sick from it.
With that being said why would you disobey your parents? It's not like they are telling you you can't go on a trip or do something you've really worked hard for. They haven't broken a promise to you. They are simply telling you not to put holes in your body. I can tell you that later in life you may regret doing it.
I pierced my ear on a bet a long time ago. I only wore the earring for 2 weeks. The hole has never closed up and there is a bump on my left ear from it that never went away.
Listen to your parents. When you get older you can always pierce it if you want to. Why not wait, it's not really all that important to have a hole in your belly button anyway. And I can tell you that most guys don't find piercings all that appealing.
Again I strongly suggest you don't do it. I just gave you the information that I did in case you are going to do it to minimize the risk to yourself.
no_commitment_69 answered Thursday January 20 2005, 7:49 pm: the way i peirced my own belly button was by icing it until the ice melts then take a "T" pin and that should do it.....pinch the skin so you have a striaght place to peirce then on the count of 3 go for it.....it didnt hurt me....no lie
Advice_x33 answered Thursday January 20 2005, 7:25 pm: You basically just need a sharp needle, and make sure its big enough so that the whole will be big enough for the ring..make sure you sterolize the needle by burning it and cleaning it with alchohal.. gsngirl7 answered Thursday January 20 2005, 6:40 pm: If you do decide to do it, go and ask the people who work at a piercing place and see if they have any ideas. They know what they are doing and they might have some good ideas. But be careful. It might get infected if it doenst get done right. Not to mention your parents might be pretty pissed off if they find out that you went against their wishes. Good luck! Hope my advice helps! [ gsngirl7's advice column | Ask gsngirl7 A Question ]

charmed-cherry21 answered Thursday January 20 2005, 6:36 pm: I wouldn't do it. I did it myself and I did everything you were supposed to and it got infected and I had to take it out and let it grow shut. I would make a deal with your parents about you getting it professionally done if you get straight a's or when you turn like 16 or something.
Karen answered Thursday January 20 2005, 6:22 pm: Hey, I have my belly button pierced and I pierced mine a few times before I got mine professionally done but the last time I did it, I popped a blood vessel and the area around my belly button was really red and it got infected. I did everything right and I didn't even know that I did something wrong. DO NOT pierce your belly button yourself because you will do something wrong, even though you say that you won't. My parents wouldn't let me get mine pierced so I proved to them that I was responsible. Try helping around the house and start doing better in school and then your parents will let you get your belly button pierced. Well, if you really want to pierce your belly button by yourself, you need to ice your stomach for a good 15 minutes. You also need to sanitize your sewing needle with alcohol. Then you just mark your hole and pierce it from the bottom up. Hope I helped :) If you need any other advice about this, feel free to leave your questions in my inbox!
