Is all magic bad?

Question Posted Friday April 25 2014, 5:39 pm

I mean is it all like "unholy"? I know that black magic is like witchcraft but whats white magic? Will it get you sent to hell? I have been thinking about this since I read "Jays Journal". Also are spells considered witchcraft?

if your wanting to know how God feels about majic, this is what his word says on the subject:
The difference between white magic and black magic is one is supposed to be used for good the other for bad. The Bible however does not make a distinction between the two. Magic is Magic.
● “You must not practice magic.”—Leviticus 19:26.
● “As for a man or woman in whom there proves to be a mediumistic spirit or spirit of prediction, they should be put to death without fail.”—Leviticus 20:27.
● “There should not be found in you . . . a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium.”—Deuteronomy 18:10-14.

I know many young people are looking for answers to their problems. A "quick fix" that will make everything the way you want it but that is only in fairy tales. Many people have been led down the path to "witchcraft" by believing they will get a magical ending too but in reality all that awaits you down this road is a lot of bad people trying to take advantage of your vulnerability. I won't go into personal beliefs about heaven or hell but I can tell you it is NEVER a good idea to enter into any cult type behavior. I know a lot of books and movies make it seem so real and so romantic but there again it is all fairy tales from someone's imagination. Real life can be very difficult sometimes and there is no magic or quick fix that can change that. It is wonderful that you are reading but maybe you should try reading some inspirational books for young people that are not so full of magic and mysticism. You seem like a very intelligent young person and I am confident that you will make mature decisions about life without getting involved in this type of behavior!

Valentina answered Thursday May 1 2014, 10:45 am:
It depends what you believe in. Personally I'm not a Christian and I'm not sure if I believe in hell. You will have to think about your own beliefs and what you think the answer is. I think you need to search into what you believe, because I can't tell you that something is unholy.

Black magic is the idea of bad magic and white is the idea of good. If you look on Pagan websites I'm sure there will be more information.

Spells are part of witchcraft yes there are books on this:

singursoul answered Wednesday April 30 2014, 12:03 pm:
I'm not sure what Jays Journal is, but I'll do my best to answer your question.
This answer is based on my opinion, and I would recommend speaking with a trusted religious authority to get better detail.
My personal opinion is that magic is not real. But I'll answer for a hypothetical situation where it is, or if I am wrong.
From what I understand, any magic would be considered witchcraft and wizardry. It isn't necessarily going to send you to Hell, as Christ dying on the Cross and a person's acceptance of that and wanting Him to be in their heart is all that's really needed for salvation. (At least that is how the Bible was interpreted to me.) It is, however, a very scary thing that I would approach with great care.
If used for good, white magic, then I believe it would be the same as using your ability to sew for good. You can use a needle and thread to repair clothes, or you could use your spell. Same end result, you fixed something.
But power has a way of going to people's heads. "If this is okay, then this slightly bigger thing should be fine. If that's okay, than the much bigger thing should be fine." Before you know it you've gotten into the scary stuff, or you have lost the good intentions behind it. Black magic. You also run the risk of showing off, which can get you in trouble if you show off to the wrong people.
I recommend leaving it alone. I know it can be really cool and really tempting, but I don't see it ending up anywhere good. I don't think your soul is in jeopardy at this point, and being curious about it is certainly understandable. But I think the best way to keep yourself safe, and to keep from getting into more powerful magic than you are prepared to handle, is to stay away from it.

I have no idea about white magic, but black magic is a very dangerous thing. Demons see black magic as a welcoming into your soul. Demons aren't just part of movies, they're real. Someone my dad used to know was once 'worshiping' on a spirit board and a demon appeared in front of him and asked his permission to 'enter' the guy was so scared that he threw the board into a fire..Gods the only one who can judge where you end up for eternity, but in the bible it does say that it's a condemned sin.

To be honest, I don't really know too much about black magic. I think for starters, you have to believe in it above else. I personally don't however I don't think I would ever try it. If you are religious I would suggest to not even try, i mean why tempt fate especially if it's in your belief right? With my limited knowledge on the subject I would think that spells fall into witchcraft especially if they are in anyway evil.

I'm sorry, I don't know much about it. I hope that answers your question

Debateist answered Tuesday April 29 2014, 8:41 pm:
Magic is not recognised by the church as being real so I suppose in this respect it is "unholy". However for those that believe in magic such as witchcraft and magic spells yes it is viewed that white magic using such spells / witchcraft for good and black magic is using them for bad. If your intentions are good then you wont be sent to hell!! I have just researched Jay's journal and in his case he it seems to me he after taking part in what they believed to be occult rituals i.e. devils magic I am guessing he became paranoid and believed he was plagued by a demonic figure. This book it is believed is a work of some fiction at a time where the exorcist was famous:
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
If you worship the devil I suppose this would be seen as unholy but if you worship God then this would be seen as holy to an extent and yes spells are witchcraft.
However for the most part Magic as in witchcraft has yet to be proven true, not to say it isnt just making it clear that it has yet to be proven.
I hope I helped answer your question and if you have anymore I am here!!

Nothing is always all bad just like nothing is always all good. Everything is relative. Time space and dynamics of our world are always in motion. We have to do the best we can and it gets messy.

There is a lot of writing out in the world about witchcraft and spells. Do some research. Define those terms for yourself what do you agree with, what do you not agree with?

In the wrong hands even the most holy of things can be made unholy. And vice versa. I myself believe in the good of white magic. I encourage you to explore and discover what you believe :)

Good luck honey

Alin75 answered Monday April 28 2014, 11:44 am:
If there is one question to bring me back after a year's absence, this would be it.

There is no such thing as magic. Before you slap me with my mandatory 1, please consider the real situation. The James Randi Educational Foundation has had a 1 million dollar prize available to ANYONE who can demonstrate ANY kind of supernatural ability under controlled circumstances. This means when there are experts there to make sure that there is no trickery, no psychological manipulation, no playing the odds in your favour, etc.

This prize has been available for decades and despite numerous attempts no one has even come close. You know why? It is all just a bunch of lies, myths, and trickery. Ever wonder why magicians (stage magicians I mean) have a long tradition since Houdini to expose these frauds? Its because they can instantly see where the trick is. To us it may look genuine, but a trained magician can spot the trick instantly.

Anyway, there is no such thing as magic. There is also absolutely not one shred of evidence for any religion we ever invented. I am not going to go into that, but a bit of research there (from impartial non-religious sources) and you will see all the holes, the inconsistencies, and outright nonsense in any of the holy books.

Sorry to be so blunt, but this is just the way things are. It is extremely important to always approach a subject critically before you accept it. Even something you may have been brought up with. When you look beyond the sources and the people who WANT it to be true, you often find that its all one giant house of cards.

I haven't dabbled in it much myself, but I have friends who are Wiccans. Personally, I feel that we were all given the right to perceive life in different ways. As long as we believe in 'something', I don't think that humans should be sent to hell and punished because they are curious or believe differently than others. Spells, yes, are used in Wiccan rituals and I'm sure other things too, but a lot of people use them for good and healing. Hope this helped some!

Just thought I'd mention that there's actually no evidence that ANY tangible, physical event, either good or bad has EVER resulted from anyone performing 'magic'. I've mentally 'cursed' many people in MY life...didn't harm one of them one bit!
Maybe I'm not using the right spell??? Choosing to believe in magic does NOT make you good or evil. Neither does believing in ghosts...or goblins, or Santa Claus either for that matter. It's 'all in your mind' sweetheart, I promise you.

Dragonflymagic answered Saturday April 26 2014, 8:20 pm:
I am not familiar with jays journal. I do however have experience with many years in a Christian church almost 30 and then experience and involvement with pagans and witches since about 2003, so 10 yrs. A big thing to keep in mind is the intent beyond what you are doing. Intent of the human mind is what powers Christians prayers as well as pagans spells. Intent is focus directed on a positive outcome or a negative outcome. Not only witches but people in all walks of life could have a negative intent towards others, and believe me, you will find them even in churches. Whats crazier, is that in my example, they have no clue they are practicing magic, black magic actually because their intent is the opposite of the christians 'golden rule' a rule that every belief on the planet has in their own words. For pagans their way of putting it is "An it harm none,do what you will." Which means if what you intent to do doesnt hurt yourself or others, thens it okay to do. the church I attended at the time was renting a piece of property the school district owned but no longer used as a school. The church made several offers to buy it off them, wanted the property to have to build their own church and christian school. The school district refused. So church leaders called a special prayer meeting after church where members stood in the field next to the gym we used for meetings and their so called "prayers went something like this; Dear God, we know you want to bless us with this property. But the school district board has refused to sell to us. So bring hardships against them, bring them troubles. May they experience great failures, loss of staff and bring in new people who will listen to us and do as we want." I was horrified, they thought they were doing a good prayer. iT was their words that were wrong. Their words were focused on bringing negative events to befall the school district so that they could profit and get what they wanted. Witches who do spells use words and rhymes to bring a good event into being, getting a raise, a new job, healing for a health problem, etc... That is all good things. So white magic, is something used for good. If you ever hear of green witch, that refers to someone whose focus is healing with herbs and plants. Hope this helps you. If you have any other questions about the topic, I'd be glad to try and help.

twist answered Saturday April 26 2014, 11:55 am:
That's a tough question. I guess it depends on what you consider magic. God performs miracles, which can look like magic but the difference is always in the source. If God has given you a gift, some Christians have visions or prophesy or they can heal but they have not gone out and learned how to do these things. The power comes directly from God. These are good things.
The magic that you are talking about, witchcraft, black or white magic, and spells. All of these find their source from the Devil. The devil wanted to be like God which is why he was kicked out of heaven. When we search out ways to make ourselves spiritually powerful, look for ways to be in control of what happens to another human through magic, we are trying to control things that only God should have control over. We need to leave those things in God's hands and trust him to take care of things.
That being said, if you have practiced witchcraft and spells and such, it does not mean you will go to hell. If you repent (pray to God for forgiveness and decide to change your ways) He is gracious and will forgive you.
Hope this helps. Feel free to message me with any further questions :)

Short_N_Punky answered Friday April 25 2014, 6:16 pm:
There is several different types of magic white red green black it depends on the element you are portraying. Black magic is more evil or demonic it doesnt follow the rules of the craft. You wont go to hell for practicing. Also white magic and red blue doesnt matter what color you are practicing is witch craft but its not a bad thing wiccans are VERY different from satanists which try to harm people or do bad things. Wicca number one rule is three fold you do not harm people and if you do it comes back threefold to you!

soph0900 answered Friday April 25 2014, 6:09 pm:
White magic is supposed to be good magic.
I think spells are more like rituals or prayers in the way that they are done in modern paganism. They're kinda like lucky charms for people.
Its like praying that a person be safe, have a healthy child birth, a successful marriage etc. etc.
Spells generally are considered witchcraft. But witchcraft is not necessarily bad. If you are doing spells to help people, with good intentions, then surely you wouldn't end up in hell? Only if you're cursing people or something.

It generally depends what religion you're following. Some more liberal Christians are more accepting of modern witchcraft today, whereas others are not. Some "witches" do actually believe in one god, just as Jews, Muslims and Christians do! Its the same principal, just differing ways of worship etc. etc.
