Can someone explain college to me? What's with all that graduate and udnergraduate stuff? and like the college of science, medicine, stuff..where do you get your degrees and stuff? I go to college in like 2 years and I have no CLUE about this stuff..someone please inform me..thankyouuuuuuuu

I'm not really sure what you're asking, but I'll try.

Before you gradute high school, start applying to either community colleges or universities, as well as for financial aid. Community colleges give two year degrees, either AA (Associate of Arts) or AS (Associate of Science), as well as certificates that take less than two years.

I recommed that you visit a local college or university and take a tour. Pick up all of the information that you can. They should have a book available that lists the degrees that they offer, as well as the classes that you have to take to get that degree. When you are in your last semester and you have no more classes left, you apply for graduation, and then if you meet all the requirements for the degree you applied for, you graduate with that degree in a ceremony similar to a high school graduation.

You are an undergraduate if you have not yet received your Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS). You are doing graduate studies if you are working on your Masters Degree.

College of Science, College of Medicine, etc. are usually terms used within a University simply to differentiate between their different programs. For example, UCF has a College of Education, but you still go to the same campus as the other UCF students.

When you graduate high school, you will be an undergraduate whether you go to community college or a university. I suggest that you talk to a guidance counselor in college during your senior year to make sure that you have everthing that you need.

can soemone please tell me the antonyms of epitome (which means a a perfect role model)thanks i will rate 5's for good answers.

i need 4 differnet words

OK, here's the best I could do...

dystopian: dire, grim, as bad as can be.

That's the only thing that I could find. The best that I can do is tell you to find all of the synonyms for epitome as you can, and then start trying to find the antonyms for those. Try http://www.synonym.com, and use their antonym search.

I hope that helped.

so yeah when ..i make out with my boyfriend...i'm not realy experienced .. i just want to have some ideas given to me..on -where my hands should go?- like..around his neck? or touching his hair?

i don't know..

i feel kinda weird just having my hands to myself.

Touch his hair, wrap him up in a big hug, hold hands, put your hands around his waist, give him a back stratch/rub (that's my husband's favorite). Put a hand on his chest or bicep.

I've found that guys like it if you change positions every once and a while. Not constantly, or it's distracting. But also, you don't want to leave your hands in one spot for too long, especially skin to skin (like hands on face) otherwise one of you might start to sweat, and that gets itchy.

Hi..i performed oral sex to a guy on..friday night but he didn't cum..we didn't use a condom..and today (monday)..i feel like i am sort of about to get a sore throat but i'm not sure..it could just be in my head because i've b een thinking about it. Could this be something i should get checked out, or should i not worry or w/e..and has anyone ever felt like i have after oral sex..?

The guy doesn't have to orgasm to give you a disease. A sore throat is one of the most common symptoms of gonorrhea.

Sore throat is also a symptom of infectious mononucleosis, also called mono or "kissing disease", which you get from making out.

However, your throat may hurt simply because of the act you were performing, especially if this is not something that you do a lot. It also just may be in your head, as you said. However, I feel that it is worth it to get it checked out by a doctor so that you can get proper treatment if you need it.

okay... can you get stds from someone like for example if they dont have one? any names? i know its a weird question

I'm not sure what you're asking, but you can't get an STD from someone who doesn't have one.

However, a person can say that they are clean, and they can look perfectly healthy, but they can still be host to contagious STD's. There are some STD's that a person can have and give to you that you can't see, but which can still do a LOT of damage. Which means that you should always use a condom.

For some reason my boobs are pointy, I have had boobs for a long time, but they have always been pointy. I am now 13, and is this normal, and is there anything I can do about this. Another thing I need to know is, is there other who have this problem to??? My mom told me she had the problem to and after she had me that her boobs got round. I think the reason why they are pointy is cuz I have know fat under the, its like its not round there. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME???

It could be two things, and they are both normal.

One, it could just be a stage. You are only 13, so your body is still going to change quite a bit before it is done.

Also, there are many different types of breasts. The "normal" breasts (naturally round, perky, and mid-sized) are actually pretty uncommon.

If you need to know more about it, go to Google (you might want to turn off adult pages in search results under preferences), and do a search for asymmetrical breasts or something similar. You will find lots of medical information and, to warn you, medical pictures, of many different kinds of breasts that are all perfectly normal.

Hope that helped!

tuesday i turn 15. and i have lived with my mom since i was born. her and my dad got a divorce when i was realy little. i go to my dads every other weekend. my dad hasnt really been the kind of dad he is suppost to be. but i still love him. Well my dad lives in newnan and i love it down there all my friends are there and i have so much fun down there. My mom lives 2 hours away in lawenceville and i hate it here. We moved here a couple months ago and i have been in this new high school for 1 month now. I have no friends, everyone is stuck up and annoying there. I want to move in with my dad. Not because i love him more, but because i like it better there. my mom is always complaining that we dont have any money and i spend too much. Well i love her verrrrry much but if i tell her i want to live with my dad, she will get very upset adn like cry and all. What are some good ways i can tell her without her getting so upset? any help is wanted.

She's probably going to get upset no matter how you tell her. Your best bet is to sit down with her, maybe over dinner or by going out for icecream or something. You might want to start by telling her that you do love you a lot, but that since you've moved, you just haven't been happy. Tell her that where you are now you have no friends, no fun, and you can't stand the school. Then tell her exactly what you told me about your dad's place. Try not to mention the money issue, since a lot of adults are very sensitive about their income (or their lack of it). Make sure your mom knows for sure that it's not a parent preference, it's just mostly a preference for the factors outside of the home.

If she says no, ask her for at least a trial period. See if you can agree on a period of time to try it out, ideally a year, or a summer, or a school year. Promise her that if things really aren't better at your dads by the end of the trial period, you'll come back home.

She's almost bound to tell you that things are going to get better where you are. If she still says no, there isn't much to do to change her mind. Try not to whine or argue too much. Wait a month or two and try asking again.

I hope things work out for you.

Okay.. Some friends and I decided we wanted Tattoos. So we used a needle and Permanent Marker to do them. We scratched/poked the skin a few layers deep.. just enuff to make it almost bleed. Then put layers of marker over the design we carved into ourselves.

Will these Tattoos stay on .. and for how long will they be there?

Since I can't see them, and I didn't see you do them, I can't really stay for sure. They might stay, but they won't be very dark, and they might heal funny.

My husband used ink from a broken ballpoint and a straightened staple to give himself a tattoo while he was in jail. That was a year ago, and it's faded a lot more than a professional tattoo, but it is still there, and you can still tell what it is. It scarred pretty bad though, and you can see where the scars messed up the tattoo.

Tattoos, done properly, actually bleed quite a bit. If you only did it until you almost bled, it probably wasn't deep enough, which means it probably won't stay. Also, I don't know the safety or the permanance of using permanent marker. I assume that if it was done correctly, it would stay. It wouldn't look as dark as a professional tattoo though. To avoid infection, make sure you take care of them just like a professional tattoo.

ive had this wart on my finger for a long time, and I just got a wart remover thing a week ago. its Dr. Scholl's Clear Away Wart Remover. on the package it says it can take up to 12 weeks to fully remove the wart! the warts already getting smaller.. any1 know anything that works better? or is this gunna work?

Dr. Scholl's is the best that I've found. When I used it, it only took 4 days. I think that the only thing that's better is to visit your doctor, which would be a quick procedure, that does hurt a little bit. After it's done, it takes about as long as a cut to heal, and leaves very little to no scaring.

Hi, love your column. I have a real problem with a flatmate of mine. I am mixed caucasian/african and he is South African. The first time we met (I am the newest flatmate in a long established shared house) he just glared at me , didn't smile or introduce himself.

Now, he is forever accusing me of not doing my share of the cleaning and making a mess in the bathroom, which is unfair. Up until now, i have just aplologised in order to keep the peace, but his unjust attitude(which i suspect, as i have implied, is caused by racism) is really starting to bug me. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lucretia xx.

It sounds like racism to me, too. From what you describe, it sounds like it's gotten to the point where there is going to have to be a confrontation, since it's not fair for you to have to keep living like that.

Unfortunately, it seems that your only options are talk it over, or keep living with his behaviour.

Make sure he realizes what your share is, and be sure that he and your other flatmates all realize that you are doing it. My best suggestion is to point out to him what is going on. Make sure that he knows how you feel, and that you feel that you ARE doing your share. His behaviour might not be concious. If he feels that you are not doing your work, find out what he thinks is your share of the cleaning, so that you can discuss why he thinks that it is not getting done.

If all else fails, you might try talking to your other flatmates. They might have suggestions, or they might be able to help you talk to him. Remember though, that this is probably your last resort. You best chance is to talk to him directly.

Let me know if I can help you with anything else!

What is an antecedent??? as In english...: I need help on this sentence:

One superstitious sailor can taint the whole company with his fear...

Would the antecedent be ?? and i also need the proper noun... Would it be his...

HELP

The antecedent is something that determines to what the pronoun refers. As in, "I asked Jodi what she was talking about." The pronoun "she" refers to Jodi, so Jodi is the antecedent. Does that make sense?

There is no proper noun in that sentence. A proper noun is a name of a person, place, or thing. They start with capitol letters. If the sentence read "Jack can taint the whole company with his fear...", the proper noun would be Jack. However, there are only common nouns in that sentence.

'We'll be going to Davy Jones' locker'. What does that mean?Is it like kicking the bucket? Who's this Davy Jones anyway?

When you send someone down to Davy Jones' locker, you send them to the bottom of the ocean to die.

As for Davy Jones...he is referenced in "The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle" written in 1750. Davy Jones is the sailor's name for the evil spirits of the ocean that take many forms. However, why sailors call these spirits Davy Jones is unknown.

In one of the other answers you received, the columnist referred to Davy Jones appearing on the Brady Bunch. This is Davy Jones of the Monkees, from the 1960's. There is actually a reference on that show of sending Davy Jones to Davy Jones' locker, but he is not the source of this term.

I'm confused. I'm having friends telling me I'm something..and then I'm not?
So I'm mostly portuguese. Parts of german, irish, etc.
Can you tell me what I fall under?
Middle Eastern
Pacific Islander
Caucasian
Or just OTHER.

American? I don't know...wherever you live, that's what you are. If I were you, I would put caucasian. I'm irish/german/etc., and that's what I've always put.

The dicitonary definition of caucasian is "Of a major human racial classification traditionally distinguished by physical characteristics such as very light to brown skin pigmentation and straight to wavy or curly hair, and including peoples indigenous to Europe, northern Africa, western Asia, and India." Note that this isn't scientific, just anthropological.

Anyway, must people call themselves whichever race they idenify most closely with, but for demographic purposes, you are probably caucasian.

heya i think im pregnant havn't had a period in 2 months getting all the signs, i'm getting a test for sure when i get paid next week :D
im just worrying if i am what should i be eating more or less of and what should i definatly avoid eating?? thank you!

First off, be sure to go see an OB/GYN! They will be able to help you more than anyone else. If you don't have money/insurance, go to your local health department and see the OB/GYN there. They should charge you on a sliding fee scale, and if you don't work, it should be free for you.

Otherwise, avoid alcohol, caffine, and nicotine. You might want to cut back on sugar if you have a lot in your diet. Just think healthy, and cut out junk food as much as you can.

Go to www.mypyramid.gov to get and try following the new food pyramid, unless your doctor gives you a specific diet.

Good luck!

im going to the mall tomorrow to by new clothes and i was wonderin if there are any other stores like hot topic or stores that arent really "preppy"?
thanks in advance!

Is there a Bealls or Ross near you? I never thought to shop there until my sister-in-law (the stripper) told me to. I don't know if they are all the same, but all the ones in my area have mostly preppy or professsional, but they also have some really great unpreppy stuff. I got my black and red wedding dress at Ross, and I buy a LOT of clothes from Bealls. They don't always have a lot, but if you hunt around you can find some really cute things.

Bealls are in Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Alabama. I believe that they are primarily a Florida chain though. I've never looked at their online store, but you might try http://www.beallsflorida.com/default. Ross is in about 25 states in the west and southeast.

I'm 25 and have lived in my own apartment for three years, but I recently met a girl my age who has a house and a spare bedroom and wants a housemate to help with payments, so I'm going to move in with her. She's really cool and we hang out and have gotten to be friends. Here's my question: a few people (my parents, mostly) have told me that any time you're going to live with someone new you should have a set of ground rules that you both work on and agree to... like, what hours it's okay to play loud music, who's going to do dishes when, stuff like that. I told them the idea is silly because we're friends and she's going to think I'm weird and uptight if I propose something like this. If my music is too loud, she can tell me, you know?

So what do you think... should we just go with whatever for a while, or work out an agreement? What sort of stuff should we put on this list of rules if we do it?

If you don't set down rules, it's probably a good idea to at least talk about some loose guidelines. For example, if one of you works early in the morning, the other wouldn't want 5 people coming to party at 11:00 at night. You also will want to set out things like how groceries are bought, and cleaning duties. Other than that, if you are friends you probably don't need firm rules.

A word of caution: I lost a friendship with my two best friends after they had moved in with my husband and me. We didn't set down any procedures for how they would leave if they wanted to move out. They left one week before the end of the month, and payments (bills and rent) were due at the end of the month. They said that since they didn't stay the entire month, they didn't owe any money. They packed up and left while my husband and I were at work, and left my husband and I to foot all the bills for that month. All because we couldn't agree on a solution, and we hadn't decided on how to handle that situation before they moved in.

With that in mind, good luck!

Whenever I babysit, the parents always ask me "How much do you pay per hour?". The truth is, I don't have a rate, and they always overpay me, which I don't mind :D, but I think it's impolite to take more than 15 dollars an hour. How can I politly set a reasonable babysitting rate that isn't too much or too little?

Wow, who do you babysit for? Anyway, I make only $7.00 at work, and the bills have to get paid, so I pay $3.50 an hour. This means that for every hour I work, I'm only actually making $3.50 an hour as well, since the other half of my hour is already spent. My babysitter works from 7-11 am, so I give her $15. If I ever get a bonus at work, I give her a little bit of that, too, to say thanks. I think half of my money is pretty fair.

Hey, i was wondering if u would be able to enlighten me with some of your wisdom of your religion, currently i have put together a lot of random things that i call my code of rational and i base most of my judgements off of it. Since your quite good at giving advice, would you tell me of some of your main pricipals of paganism?

Well, first off, thanks! My principals are sort of hard to define, mainly because when I find something that seems more true or right than what I already believe, I go with that. But, I'll try.

I believe in a god, but not the Christian God. For me god is a good, loving, benevolent force that surrounds and moves through things. God is all loving and all seeing, and powerful, but not all powerful. God wants humans to be happy and aware of "his" presence; he primarily seeks harmony in all living things.

I don't know where we came from, or where we are going. There is not enough evidence in this world to convince me of anything definite. I would like to think that there is an afterlife, and that it is similar to the Zoroastrian afterlife. As in, we are punished, but only in accordance with our sins, and then we're forgiven! And we all exist happily ever after.

I feel that human's purpose is to seek to be happy, to make others happy, and to live a good life.

There was actually a principal that I live by mentioned in a question recently. I think he said it as "if everyone did it." Actually, I feel bad rewriting what he stated so well, so you should probably read it. It's number 2 on his list. Also see number 4 on his list.

http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=369332

I seek to be happy, to treat others the way that I want to be treated, and to live a good, spiritual life. I want to make other people happy. Apply this to the "if everyone did it" principal, and you get the basis of my beliefs.

Other than that, I guess that if I had to name it I would call myself a Postmodern Pagan. Meaning that rather than seeking absolutes, I seek the relative truth of subjective experience. I feel the adhering to prescribed rituals, rules, and ideas, people limit themselves in their search for the truth. Therefore, I feel that people lumping themselves into pre-named religions with pre-decided ideas of reality blinds a person and prevents them from understanding, or even accepting other religions.

I think religion or spirituality should be an enrichment experience in life, and to do so, we need to embrace diversity, because that is how we learn and get new ideas.

I'm not sure where to go from here, so if you have any other questions, or would like more specifics or detail, let me know!

ive heard about a lot of different religons, and most of them i dont understand. could u guys list some religions with the basic belief/definition of that religion? (even one religion with a def. gets a
5)

OK, there are a LOT of named religions, so I'll give you a real brief definition of a few commonly recognized ones, and a more in depth definition of the most recognized...here goes. The most prevalent religions in the world (where at least 75% of a country follows the religion) are Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Confucianism, Taoism, Shinto, Judaism, and tribal religions. Three other influential religions that don't fall into the 75% category are Sikhism, Jainism, and Zoroastrianism.

OK, before I start, it is important to point out that these definitions are really broad. For instance, I define Buddhism in general. In reality, there are several types of Buddhism, such Mahayana, Theravada, Chan, Zen, Tantric, Pure Land, etc. It, unfortunately, isn't possible in this sort of forum to really give good definitions of all major religions branches.

Overall, tribal religions believe that the universe has many friendly and unfriendly spirits. In different parts of the world, this religion may or may not have a high god. Many don't believe in creation, they simply believe that the world always was. They believe that humans are the children or demigods from long ago. They commonly believe that we are reborn into this world, often in a "same spirit, different form" sort of manner.

Buddhism is hard to define. Buddhism teaches that reality is unity. Ultimate reality is the unconditioned reality beyond everything, called Nirvana, or the Void. The universe goes through cycles with no beginning or end. There is no individual, but rather a process of cause and effect. There is no self, the true realization of this lack of self is the goal of Buddhism. We suffer unending lifetimes in this world and others according to karma, until we break through to Nirvana. One who practices Buddhism is expected to do good, to commit good religious and moral works to gain good rebirth, and to seek Nirvana.

Hinduism teaches that the universe is profoundly one. The high god is Brahman, the "One Mind" or "Life", which is the one reality. It is a flame that takes many shapes. The world goes through endless cycles of creation and destruction, therefore there is no true beginning or end. Humans also have no beginning, as we were never created. We go through countless lifetimes, determined by karma. Our lifetimes take us through many places, including heavens and hells, until we transcend reality through our own realization. Hinduism follows the Vedic scriptures. People who follow Hinduism are expected to follow dharma (rituals, behaviors, deeds) to seek moksha (liberation) through yoga and devotion under the guidance of a guru.

Confucianism says that universe is a unity under the heavens, of which we are an important part. Family and society are our links to the universe. Ultimate reality is "heaven" or Tian, which regulates the world and moral order. The world originates from heaven and develops through interactions of Yin and Yang and the five elements. There isn't too much stress on the afterlife, other than ancestrism. We are to try to live a good life in this world through family and society, and that is all that really matters. Someone who practices Confucianism is expected to honor their parents and ancestors, exercise kindness and benevolence.

In Daoism, the universe is one, which always moves and changes. Ultimate reality is the Dao, the great Way through which the universe moves. Creation and the end of the world are simply expressions of the Dao. Humans are another expression of the Dao, though one may become immortal by mastering the Dao. One who practices Daoism is expected to live spontaneously, live close to nature, and to perform rights that draw one closer to immortality.

Shinto follows many gods. Nature, humans, and gods are very closely related. The world was created by the gods, and humans are descended from the gods. It is possible that after death we either become gods or merge with already existing gods. We are expected to celebrate the existence of the gods, remain pure and sincere, and enjoy life.

Zoroastrianism teaches that the universe is a great battleground between good and evil. God, Ahura Mazda, is all good, and fights against the evil force, Ahriman. The world is a trap for the evil force created by Ahura Mazda. Once evil is defeated, the world will be remade anew, as a pristine paradise. Humans were created by Ahura Mazda with free will. After death we are judged according to our life, sent to paradise or hell, and resurrected at the end of the age into the new world. In hell we are punished only in proportion to our crimes, and never any more. One who follows Zoroastrianism is expected to do good, do right, keep pure, and maintain the faith. Interesting note: this religion was the first monotheistic religion, that is the first religion to believe in one god. In fact, the ancient Hebrews first developed their beliefs in one god, judgment, resurrection, and heaven and hell until they came into contact with the Zoroastrianists in Persia.

Now enter Judaism, which (broadly) teaches that the universe is made by God for humans to live in with free will in cooperation with God's guidance. There is one sovereign, personal, all-good God. The world was created by God, and will be led by God through time until a messianic age brings it to a paradise state. Humans were and are created by God. Through God, humanity will become better and better until paradise is reached. Judaism follows the Torah, or "Law" and its interpretation in the Talmud. Our responsibilities are to honor and serve by following the law of Moses. There are many types of Judaism, including Orthodox, Reform, and Conservative.

The fundamentals of Christianity, in all its aspects, are that we live in a world made by God, but that we fell from harmony with him. Jesus is our bridge between God and humanity. There is one all-good god, who created the world and humans. At then end of time we are to be judged and the world will be remade into a paradise by God. We are expected to seek and worship God, and practice love and ethics. Christianity has many incarnations, including Calvinism, Lutherans, Anglicanism, Quakers, Catholicism, and Protestantism, each of which I really should define separately, but not right now.

Now to Islam, which says that the world is for humans, but only under the absolute rule of God. There is one sovereign, personal God who guides humanity. God created humans and the world, which will be destroyed on the day of judgment. Humans will be judged on the Last Day, and be rewarded or punished in the Second Creation. Islam follows the Quran. One who follows Islam is expected to worship and serve God and observe the five pillars of Islam (statement of faith, prayer, almsgiving, fast of Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca).

I could go on, but I think that's good for now.
