My name is Jen, I go to school, and occasionally learn things. I love James Dean, Hanson, Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings by Megan McCafferty, Fall Out Boy, Elton John and Billy Joel. These make me overly qualified to give advice ESPECIALLY since I spend the vast majority of my time watching and obsesing over Oprah.

I've been through some stuff, and watched even more drama on TV, so I can help with your problems, no matter what your story is Wishbone.

i just bought something like cocoa butter called shea butter.. would that work if i put it on my acne scars..? would it lighten up or no..? because i heard that it does but im not sure (link)
unless it's made specifically for your face I wouldn't put it on it. Chances are it's made to moisturize your skin, and it will just clog your pores, and make your face produce more oil.

Check out products made for this specific purpose, they're out there. Or get some vitamin e oil, and mix it in with your facial moisturizer. Not alot, just a dab, that should do the trick.

Hey! Well, I am getting my cartilage (upper ear) pierced on my ears, and I was wondering if it hurt of if I should look out for anything or something like that. Thanks. (link)
I really hope you aren't getting it done with a gun. They increase the risk of infection because they can't be properly cleaned, and it hurts more, because of the pressure from the gun "popping" through your ear.

I've had my ears done three times, my lip and my cartilage, and to be honest the cartilage was the most painful by far, because I had it done with a gun. Sleeping on it and doing your hair also tends to irritate it.

To decrease the pain get it done properly with a needle in a piercing/tattoo parlor, or if you really have to get it done with a gun take an asprin before to reduce the pain and swelling. Keep up on your aftercare, and don't touch or play with it too much or it will get irritated/infected.

How can I get that " beachy hair " look. I bought the Garnier Fructis Surf Wax gel stuff today, but I would like some tips on how to really get that beachy look. Thanks guys :) (link)
don't touch your hair while you are drying it. I don't use Garnier Fructis, I have curl spray, but I'm sure they work in a similar manner. Spray some in your damp hair, comb it through, and if you have time let it air dry or sleep on it. If not, use your diffuser, but do not touch your hair while it's drying.

To make it extra piecy when it's dry use your straightner or curling iron to make loose curls here and there where your hair didn't do it for itself.

This is of course assuming you have naturally loose curls or wavy hair. If not, you can try that, and then go over the whole thing with your curling/straight iron, or sleep with it in loose braids.

alright well i just got an ipod but i dont like it. it doesnt work with my computer at all like it will come up and then go away in like a second. so yesterday i went to return it but i lost the receit and they said if i return it i can get 10% off and then a gift card for the store. but that place is so expencive that there is nothing cheaper there. so i still have the stupid thing and idk what to do. i really want my money back. but i dont see why they cant return it still because they have everything on file from whenever i bought it. it doesnt make since. like every other store if you dont have a receit just takes like 10% off and gives you your money back. but i really really need that money because i want to get my nose pierced with it and now im broke and that was like a waste of $160.. is there any way to get my money back or fix it or anything. please help. ill rate high! (link)
as someone who works in retail I have to say that you'll find the policy the same everywhere. Especially with an item like an iPod, they probably won't be so keen to give you your money back.

The only way I can see you getting your money back is trying to return it somewhere else they sell iPods, or going back to the original store and causing a really huge fuss. Like yelling and demanding the manager. Be aware that if you do do the last thing everyone who works in that store will pretty much hate you afterwards.

For christians, when you go to confession, do you say that masturbation was one of your sins? or is it not a sin? please help (link)
Catholics go to confession. Yes masturbation is considered a sin. Sexual thoughts are considered a sin. Basically anything sexual that does not involve having a wife and husband having sex within a committed loving marriage in order to produce children is considered a sin within the Catholic Church.

There are technicalities within this rule, but for the average person, that's what you're supposed to do.

im really afraid that my boyfriend will act weird if he knows im on my period. but he told me to tell him just so he will no incase i have PMS or im in a bad mood, or dont want to do anything sexual.. but im really afraid that he is like, not gunna want to get near me.. do you think that will happen?

please help! ill rate high! (link)
you probably won't like this answer, but you two are old enough to be dating, and sexually active to whatever extent, he should be mature enough to handle your period.

If you don't feel comfortable saying it right out, how does "I'm not in the mood" work for you? Maybe have a little code for it.

Is it possible for a girl to get pregnate by getting fingered if ther Parter had cum on ther finger?? (link)
sperm does NOT die as soon as it hits the air. However you have a very low risk of pregnancy.

okay well this is the deal.
im ready to have sex i know i am. im with a boy right now and we've decided that were going to do it. im just really nervous cuz im not on birth control and im scared something is like going to happen to the condom, like rip. i told him that i was nervous and asked him that whenever he felt like he was going to bust he would take it out and then put it back it when he stopped ..
is that a god idea and if your not on birth control and you use a condom is it most likely you can get pregnant or is like 1 in every 500 people?

please comment back asap !! thank you !!
(link)
you have to wear the condom for the entire duration of sex. Or else it doesn't work because of precum.

Used properly I believe the condom is something like 98ish% effective.

I'm 16/f and my mom gave me her 2000 Lexus but my dad wants to sell it and get me a 2000 or 2001 Honda Accord and I looked at pictures of them, they seem very old style and I don't want to be driving in a grandma-style car. The two door Honda Accords are nice, but my dads making me get a four door. I dont have a lot of knowledge in cars -- so should I go for the Honda or beg to keep the Lexus? (link)
while I don't know much about cars either, I'll try and help a little.

If you're paying the insurance, at least in Canada, it would cost way more to insure a Lexus, and even a two door Honda than it would a 4 door Honda, because a two door is classified as a sports car. Also parts for a Honda are more common, so upkeep and maintenance would be less expensive.

The easiest way to figure out what car you like best is to probably test drive both of them. Remeber it's not about what they look like, but how easy you find to drive the car. Besides, you can always paint the car, and jazz up the interior.

I'm 16/male. I was just thinking about[and no not willing to try this] two ways that I heard to minimize the effect of drinking, mostly hangovers.

1. Drink a cup of olive oil before you drink

2. Take Tylenol before you drink

I think the second one causes problems if you do that too often with your liver. Can anyone verify any of these two? Is it true or not. And again I have never drinked and plan not to, but I was curious when I heard these statements. Thanks. (link)
Nothing cures a hangover but time.

I've never heard the olive oil thing, but tylenol has been known to cause liver bleending when combined with alcohol. Plus you don't want to mix drugs and drinking, you might end up not knowing your limits, along with having a bleeding liver.

However, if when you finish drinking, you drink lots of water, and try and get as much sleep as possible, you should be okay in the morning.

Hi. I am 14 and I'm homeschooled. I am a getting more and more nervous about college each day. I keep thinking "What if I'm not prepared?" or "I'm scared." I dont know how to keep calm and prepare myself. Please Help! Thanks. (link)
I went to the library and took out tonnes of books like "choosing a college for dummies" and stuff like that. It was really helpful.

The best thing to do would be to ask people you know in college, or scour the internet for homeschooled kids who made the transition to university. There's bound to be some out there. And remeber, you have tonnes of time to prepare!

Me and my friend are thinking about going to the Fall Out Boy concert with some other bands. We already know the price for the tickets, but I was wondering if anyone knew the price of backstage passes? Thanks! (link)
I'm not sure how you get backstage passes, aside from winning them or having connections, but I do know that if you sign up for FOB's fan club "The Overcast Kids" you get a meet and greet for your city. You also get a kit with a tshirt and stuff when you sign up. I think it's about $40 and it lasts the year.

A meet and greet happens before the concert. The guys sit at a table, you walk up to them, sometimes you can get a picture, but most commonly they give autographs and a bit of chit chat.

http://www.overcastkids.com/ Here's the link to the overcast kids website where it goes over what you get exactly.

Hope that was more clear!

I'm 18/f. Please don't answer this if you're younger than me... you couldn't possibly have gone through what I am if you're 13... no offense.

I've been in psychoanalysis since I was 10 years old. They THINK I have bipolar disorder, but the psychiatrist told me they can't conclusively know or medicate me until I'm 21-22.

I'm in university right now, and I'm in danger of failing out because of my mental issues... I tried to tell this to the doctor, but she doesn't want to do anything. I'm worried that if I continue at this rate I'm going to fail at university, and at life, and that there won't be a me in 3-4 years to help anymore.

I have suicide hotline numbers, and I have really supportive friends... but everything is so hard, and the doctors are being useless...

Is there anybody here who has been through something similar, and who can offer a few words of advice? I'm dying here, and my exams are coming up.

Thank you for reading this VERY long question.

--Amanda (link)
ncblondie is correct. There is no need for your doctor to wait for you to be a certain age to diagnose or medicate you. It generally first apepars in your early teens, so your doctor really shouldn't wait. I'd seek a second opinion.

Most universities have health centres were there is someone you can speak to about mental issues among other things. They are probably not psychiatrists, but might be counsellors, and would be able to refer you to other doctors in your area.

Best of luck.

I've had my ipod nano for like, two hours and already..theres tons of fingerprints on the front && back. How do I clean it? What do I use and stuff?

Thanks mucho, I rate 5's =) (link)
the little case that you got with it when you purchased it should take care of those fingerprints no problem.

Although I'd recommend getting a case with a screen protector because they scratch very easily.

what are some songs that represent self-worth, breaking gender stereotypes, or progression in american media? i need some songs like this for a school project, but i cant think of any. thanks! (link)
At Seventeen- Janis Ian, is about self worth, and talks about stereotypes (but doesn't break them)

We Didn't Start the Fire- Billy Joel, media progression

The Times They are A-Changing- Bob Dylan (plus any other Bob Dylan)

Anything Bruce Springsteen.

I don't know what your projects about, but you could probably use some rap songs too, like 99 Problems by Jay Z, among tonnes of others.

Hi,
I’m 25 years old female. I come from Arab Muslim country. I’m suffering from family violence and I’m planning to run away from this hell..Do you think Human Rights Agencies in other countries, Canada for example, will be able to help me in any way?

Thanks.
(link)
I really wish I could be of more assistance, but all I have for you is a link to the Canadian immigration page http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/refugees/resettle-menu.html

Like Rahzie said, if you have any friends or relatives living in Canada it could be a huge help for you.

Best of luck!

ive been trying really hard since last week to write a 3 page research paper about lutheranism.

i have all of it finished except for the conclusion. it needs to be fairly long so i can meet the 3 page requirement and im not sure how to start it off.

can you give me any ideas on how to start a conclusion, or how to end one?

thanks in advance, i give 5s. (link)
Never ever ever ever start your conclusion with "in conclusion". EVER. It's like the biggest sin you can commit on an essay.

Anyways, I like to start my conclusions by restating my thesis in a different way. Say your thesis is "advicenators is a great site which their committment to quality advice, easy to use format and great advicenators prove" I'd start with something like "The quality advice given on advicenators coupled with their site which can be surfed with ease and overall great advice givers creates a great site" and then I'd go on to talk about the benefits of a great site in the long run, blah blah blah.

Not the greatest example, but hopefully you get the idea. I googled it, and the first two sites I clicked seemed to be helpful: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=how+to+write+a+conclusion&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

I'm 24 years old, going on 25 and I've never had a boyfriend, I've been on dates, if you want to call taking me to McDonald's as a date...anyway, everytime I see my friends or even relatives smooching or cuddling with their significant other it puts me down, it's like a slap in the face. I've never even experienced my first kiss yet. Everyone knows how I feel and everytime they say again and again "Don't worry, you're turn will come", I am so fed up with hearing that! Any advice you can give me?
(link)
I think you'll have to stop waiting for your turn to come. Start being proactive about it. Ask your friends if they have any single friends they can set you up with (trust me they probably do, and once they find out you're intersted, they'll find even more for you).

Of course there's always the club scene, but if you aren't into that there's always the internet. Just google it, I'm sure you've seen ads for sites like match.com, and others. I believe there are some free ones, but you'd have to google it to be sure.

Try something new, where you'll meet new people. Get a couple friends together and go on a wine tasting tour, start a bowling league, take an art class or something else you're interested in. The easiest way to look approachable? Smile and look like you're having fun, or approach other people. It doesn't even have to be someone you're attracted too, you could start approaching people who just seem like they'd be cool friends (you might even meet some single friends who will be more than happy to go significant other scouting with you :p). You'll be tonnes more comfortable talking to new people once you get used to it. That works for everyday too. Start small if you want, like make small talk with people waiting in the elevator for you or even your cashier.

As for dealing with those cutesy annoying couples? Think of how much fun it is to be single. You don't have to worry about anyone else thinks of you, you could wear sweatpants everyday, you could go get a face tattoo and not have to worry about he/she will say, you can go out whenever you want, and talk to whoever you want. The easiest way to respond to the "you're turn will come" is to make a joke out of it. Tell them you're not waiting on a significant other, you're perfectly happy with your pet or your computer- you never have to argue wtih them, and they're always there for you.

Good luck, and just stay positive!

ok so i just got $360 for my sweet sixteen but i cant think of anything to spend it on besides clothes!! help..what else can i get. any ideas? (link)
if you can't think of anything to spend it on right this second, save some of it. Sure it's boring, but that way when you do find something you absolutely have to have/need to do, you'll have the funds.

Or if you really, really need to spend it, buy an iPod. Because everyone needs an iPod.
