In your opinion what would you think about someone that you write messages to they read them and don't reply. Like this girl from school, she's real popular. At the end of the school year she told me that she wanted to hang out with me sometime because she discovered we had a lot in common. I sent her a message over myspace with my number and she never calls me and when i ask for her number she doesn't reply. Actually she never replies. She knows that I've beat the $#!% out of people that we talking behind my back. So do you think she had no intention of hanging out with me she was just afraid of me? The thing that doesn't make sense is she told me that "we should hang out".

No offense, but she probably doesn't want to hang out with you. If she does she'll respond to your message. Otherwise, forget her. Sometimes people say "Oh we should hang out" to be nice. I don't know why either, but they do, with no intention of actually hanging out with the person. I say forget her. If she calls, great. If not, don't worry about it, hang with your other friends and try not to think about it.

I'm going on vacation in Chicago in a couple weeks with my parents. What are some good places to vist, shop, etc? I'm only 15, so no bars or anything like that, haha. I don't just want a Googled list, though. From personal experience, what was best? Like if you visited, or live there.

thank you in advance! =]

I don't live there, but I live close, and go quite often. For shopping, just walk up and down the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue). They have all the shopping you need. Seriously. The Watertower Place mall is a must (Michigan Avenue). Perhaps go to Wrigley and catch a Cubs Game =) Or you could see a sox game... if you're into that... Navy Pier is fun, but there's not TONS to do there. It's cute for an evening though. I love the Museum of Science and Industry. The Field Museum is good too, but S&I is way better, in my opinion. The Lincoln Park Zoo is always fun. Shedd Aquaruim is another fun option. You could check out the Art Institute of Chicago. Millenium Park is nice. Of course, the Sears Tower. Also, Oprah tapes in Chicago! Hah.

My favorite place in Chicago is Virgin Records. It's such a cool store, I spend 2 hours minimum in there everytime I'm in Chicago. It's on Michigan avenue, so if you see it, you should definitely check it out.

As for food: Another columnist mentioned pizza. They're right, there's no beating Chicago deep dish. I highly highly suggest you go to Giordano's. They have the best pizza I've ever had. I also love to go to the Hard Rock Cafe. Mainly for 3 reasons: 1)Music is my favorite thing, so I love the atmosphere. 2)There's a waiter there that I swear I will marry someday that I usually get when I go there. 3) The Twisted Macaroni is REALLY GOOD. ESPN Zone is also very fun. They have this huge arcade that's cool to go play around in when you're waiting on your food.

Where did you get your prom dress? Not at the mall, right?

If you don't want the same dress as someone else, shop in a formal dress shop. They usually have it where you have to register your dress, that way no one else from your school can buy it. That's what I did. I got mine at David's Bridal, and no one else had my dress =)

If you want something REALLY unique, don't shop in your town. That way no one will have even seen the dress before.

For history, we have to read two books and write a paper on both. One we have to read, and the other we pick from a list. Any recomendations?
The books are:
-1876 - Gore Vidal
-The Alienist - Caleb Carr
-All the President's Men - Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein
-The Autobiography of Malcom X (as told to Alex Haley)
-The Brethren - Bob Woddward
-Burr - Gore Vidal
-The Devil in the White City - Erik Larson
-The Feminine Mystique - Betty Friedan
-Flags of our Fathers - James Bradley
-For Whom the Bell Tolls - Ernest Hemingway
-The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinback
-The Jungle - Upton Sinclair
-Lies My Teacher Told Me - James Lowen
-The Right Stuff - Tom Wolfe
-Roughing It - Mark Twain
-Uncle Tom's Cabin - Harriet Beecher Stowe
-Undaunted Courage - Stephen Ambrose
-Vernon Can Read! - Vernon Jordan

We have to summarize the book, explain the authors perspective on the subject, and explain what we liked/disliked about the book. I was going to read Lies My Teacher Told Me, but then I thought it would be too hard to summarize and write a good paper on it, since every chapter is something different. Any suggestions would be great. Also, any tips or things I should expect going into AP US history? Thanks!

I would go with The Jungle and The Grapes of Wrath. We talked a great deal about both of these in my AP US History class.

Tips for AP US History: Take good notes and participate in class discussions. In my class last year, if you did those two things, you could easily pass. First semester I took notes half the time, talked to my friend during class, and never read the whole chapter. I got a C. Second semester, I always took notes during class, and I talked with the class instead of a friend, and I always read the chapter. I got an A plus. Paying attention makes all the difference.

ok... a while back, when Panic! at the Disco came on MTV, my friend Ashley started listening to some of their songs. She was really excited to show me, and I liked their songs. A lot. She realized this and claimed that I was "stealing songs from her". She says she knows that she doesn't own the band, but she just thinks it annoying. So when Panic! at the Disco died down a bit, I tried to find some songs of "my own". One was an old song from Fall Out Boy's Take This To Your Grave, which was pretty much unheard of to my friends. My friends liked that song and I didn't mind, but they acted sort of like they found it first and started listening to the rest of the album, but if I liked any of those songs, they'd get mad. Jessica told me that Ashley even told her (Jessica) not to let me borrow TTTYG when she bought it (but she let me anyway)... Now I have found more songs, most of which Ashley now "loves". I also found a new band, This Providence. I liked it because it was a band which wasn't very that well known, all to my own. I now know how Ashley felt. But I didn't act the way she did when she liked those songs that I found. We still like to show people our favorite new songs, but we expect people to be impressed, really, not to take the song. I showed her one song from them and all of a sudden she loooved that song. She told people that she only liked 2 songs from them, but then she later called me and requested a burnt cd of them. I didn't really say anything, but I felt all... territorial. Like "They're Miine!" I hope at least SOME people know what I'm talking about and how I feel, but I don't know what to say to Ashley.

You're missing the point. Music is supposed to bring people together. I LOVE to discover new music. It's exciting. You should want to discover it for the love of the music, not to impress people. I always burn my best friends mixed cds, because I am the music lover of the group, and I do it because I like enjoying the songs together, not so they will think "Oh wow, she found them all by herself, that's so cool". Sure, it's a perk, but it shouldn't be your only motivation. I do, however, know how you feel in some sense. I was listening to Gym Class Heroes like a year before they got popular. Same with the Plain White T's. And Boys Like Girls. And tons of other bands. But the only problem I have with them getting popular is when a song I love gets so overplayed it gets ruined for me. I remember the first time I saw Boys Likg Girls on MTV. I was so excited, and its funny, because I was also really proud. Because I had been listening to them for so long, I felt like, Aw, they finally made it big, Make mama proud (lol). So take a different approach to the music. Who cares who discovers the good bands, as long as they get discovered. Share this viewpoint with Ashley too. It'll show that you're the mature one and she's immature for trying to look so cool.

Good Luck & Happy Listening

so i just got a relatively large purse. its super cute and i LOVE it! but.. its really big, and has a lot of pockets and compartments. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT IN IT! it looks dumb to leave it unfilled because then it just looks empty! so far i put my sunglasses, camera, ipod, cell phone, and wallet in there. it still doesn't fill it up! what else can i put in? what do you put in yours? thank you!

Everyone always teases me and calls my purse a suitcase because of how much I carry in it. This is what I have in mine at the moment:
-Small make up bag
-B&BW lotion
-Tanning Lotion
-Bottle of Vitamin water
-Cell Phone
-iPod
-Digital Camera
-The book I'm reading
-Perfume
-The latest issue of AP magazine
-Antibacterial hand gel
-Pez Despenser =)
-A few pens
-Deodorant
-Keychain
-Half a bag of iced animal cookies (rolled up and secured with a ponytail holder)
-A few random things that got thrown in there like 2 spare batteries and a necklace

Like I said. Suitcase haha.

what do you think of sophomore year? i heard its harder than the freshman year whats the diffrence between freshman year and sophomore year? which one do you think it was better?

I think freshman year was tougher, actually. But that could be because I was new at school freshman year, and had to adjust to everything. Plus, none of my teachers were tough or mean sophomore year, and that was just luck. Both years were really easy though, it's junior year that SUCKS. =)

i dont really pay attention to ratings because i just started but i gave someone a detailed answer and he gave me a 3. its not so much his rating its his comment:
Thank you for your answer. I would give you a 4 but you didn't capitalize. Otherwise it was a good answer.
what does capitalizing have to do with anything?

YG(younggrandma) is a L2 moderator. She cares plenty about the site. And she is right. The reason a lot of people, especially moderators (myself included), care about spelling and capitalization because we believe that iF eVeRy1 typD lYk DiSsS lolZ, then our site that we put so much effort into won't look nearly as professional or appealing. And a tip: When you're asking a question, the better you type, the higher it will get rated, and the more serious answers you will get. Now, a lot of this doesn't apply to you, because you don't have a problem other than capitalizing. Also, a 3 is a decent rating, so don't worry about it. 5s are given out way to often and easily on this site. So don't worry about the "low" rating. =)

This may be irrelevant, but I am 15/F. Anyway, a guy I work with is going to pierce my cartilage for me with a 16 gauge needle (I really don't know what that means), so I guess it is fine because he has done a LOT of piercings before, even some of his own... I am just worried because he does drugs (which I can live with because a lot of people do) but the biggest reason for my skepticism is that he is 16. Age is just a number but is this a cause for worry? Or should I just relax? Also, please remeber this is my cartilage he is piercing and it is said that the cartilage is more suceptable to infection than the earlobes and this guy is piercing my ear with a professional needle but at his house. So, should I go through with it? Thanks in advance.

I really wouldn't do it. I've heard too many horror stories. There are so many things that could go wrong here. Your best bet is to just get it done professionally. I don't know what your reasoning is for wanting him to do it, maybe because it'll be free or cheap, or because you don't have parental permission, but trust me, even if you have to pay or wait, your health is worth it. Sure, lots of people pierce things themselves and all is fine. But, you could be one of the people who don't turn out fine, you won't know until it happens. Don't do it =)

does sloming ( sticking leeches on myself) actually exist? like do any of youu know people who do it or did they make it up for the commerical?

thankssssssss

No, it doesn't exsist. They made up something crazy that seems extreme as a fad to show that a lot of young people will go along with the crowd and do what's popular, such as smoking, abusing drugs, or (in this case) sloming. It's basically a comparison things like smoking.

**Edit- Sorry for the repeat. Had no answers when I went to give one =)

when i straighten my hair (on a daily basis), after a long day it flips and waves at the bottom because i tuck my hair behind my ears pretty often. but my birthday is coming up and i can ask for a chi straightener. i was wondering if they really are worth the money and would prevent my hair from "unstraightening" during the day? also, any recommendations as to which one i should get (in the chi line) would be helpful. (:

Chis are completely worth the money. I swear. I used to think that they were way overpriced and that a 50 dollar straightener would do the same job as a chi. Then I used my friends, and I realized I was wrong. They keep my hair straight and smooth more than any other straightener, plus using one cuts down on the time it normally takes me to straighten my hair. Now, I really like the chi nano, but those are quite a bit more expensive. Any of them are great.

alright so ted* is now going out with tammy*. i was first really upset because i liked him and he liked me and all this other stuff but long story short i don't care anymore. i was just wondering if there were songs that any of you know that sort of give the bird to the guy and just sort of say go screw yourself, haha. i was thinking of "you oughta know" by alanis morissette but are there any other songs that sort of describe this feeling? thanks.

Over You by Daughtry is a good one. I can't really think of any more, but if I do, I'll add them.

No, you don't have to. But I would at least give flowers or a card. It's just the nice thing to do.

Ok so my boyfriend is in lots of sports and when ever the team wins his coaches take them out to Hooters. which i kinda have a problem with that cause i dont want my bf looking at other girls like that. and i no that its what guys do but it hurts me ive tried talking to him about it but he still keeps going anyways. What should i do?

You can't stop him from going to hooters with his team. Even if you could, it wouldn't be fair. Guys will look at other girls, it's going to happen. A girl who works at hooters should be the least of your worries. Like Cux said, he's not going to dump you for some waitress. And if you try to stop him from going, then you are just going to come off as controlling, and that might end your relationship. I really don't think you have anything to worry about. Trust him, I'm sure things will work out.

Hey all
Anyone know of good ways to meet boys my age over the summer and how to strike up convos and stuff.
14/f
Plus, i dont look so hot in a bikini if you know what i mean so im not confident whatsoever.

You could try going to a public pool (you don't have to wear a bikini), a skate park, the mall, an arcade, a park, or maybe a local food joint that everyone hangs out at on the weekends.

To strike up a conversation, if you don't feel comfortable flat out just introducing yourself to guys, then just be like "I'm sorry, you look really familliar." then ask them something like "Do you go to *whatever school*" or "Do you have a brother named John?" or something like that. He will say no, and you can say "oh, must be someone else. I'm *your name*, by the way" and there you go, easy way to talk to someone you don't know.

Dump him. You deserve better than being someone's second best. Find someone who wants you and only you.
