I'm going on vacation in Chicago in a couple weeks with my parents. What are some good places to vist, shop, etc? I'm only 15, so no bars or anything like that, haha. I don't just want a Googled list, though. From personal experience, what was best? Like if you visited, or live there.
you can go to water tower place, its like a mall, except its like historical or whatever. but it has great shopping (you can look on its website to see the stores and restaurants)
umm just michigan ave. is fun. tons of cool stores.
navy pier has like a fair thing.
shed aquarium.
museum of science and industry
field musuem
wrigley field (cubs)
soldier field (sox) yay!
Jeanne answered Saturday June 30 2007, 8:20 pm: I have to disagree with clouded_blue (sorry!). Chicago is an AWESOME city and there is tons to do! I used to live there and I miss it so much! Let's see...
Walk down Michigan Avenue and SHOP all the great stores
Go up in the Sears Tower
Boat Tour on the Chicago River - a great way to see the city
Navy Pier - Shopping, big ferris wheel
Go to a Cubs game at Wrigley Field
If you like museums, Chicago has some of the best in the country. Even people who don't like museums like these:
* Field Museum
* Museum of Science & Industry
* Shedd Aquarium
* Alder Planetarium
* Art Institute
Take a drive up Lake Shore Drive to Kennilworth and look at all the goregous mansions up there - it's a beautiful drive along the lake and you can see the whole city on the lakefront... awesome!
Places to eat:
Ed Debevics (fun diner)
Unos Pizza (or Ginos)
Al's Italian Beef
Lowry's or Mortons (steak)
Go to Greektown and try some greek food (yummy!)
There's also a Chinatown if you like Chinese
Shortcake22 answered Saturday June 30 2007, 8:20 pm: I don't live there, but I live close, and go quite often. For shopping, just walk up and down the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue). They have all the shopping you need. Seriously. The Watertower Place mall is a must (Michigan Avenue). Perhaps go to Wrigley and catch a Cubs Game =) Or you could see a sox game... if you're into that... Navy Pier is fun, but there's not TONS to do there. It's cute for an evening though. I love the Museum of Science and Industry. The Field Museum is good too, but S&I is way better, in my opinion. The Lincoln Park Zoo is always fun. Shedd Aquaruim is another fun option. You could check out the Art Institute of Chicago. Millenium Park is nice. Of course, the Sears Tower. Also, Oprah tapes in Chicago! Hah.
My favorite place in Chicago is Virgin Records. It's such a cool store, I spend 2 hours minimum in there everytime I'm in Chicago. It's on Michigan avenue, so if you see it, you should definitely check it out.
As for food: Another columnist mentioned pizza. They're right, there's no beating Chicago deep dish. I highly highly suggest you go to Giordano's. They have the best pizza I've ever had. I also love to go to the Hard Rock Cafe. Mainly for 3 reasons: 1)Music is my favorite thing, so I love the atmosphere. 2)There's a waiter there that I swear I will marry someday that I usually get when I go there. 3) The Twisted Macaroni is REALLY GOOD. ESPN Zone is also very fun. They have this huge arcade that's cool to go play around in when you're waiting on your food. [ Shortcake22's advice column | Ask Shortcake22 A Question ]
bLue_in_tHe_faCe answered Saturday June 30 2007, 8:05 pm: Hm Chicago is great. I realllyyyyy disagree with the person who answered before me. You can check out the Shed Aquarium (biggest indoor aquarium in the U.S), the Field Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, Navy Pier, or just go shop around. I suggest atleast one of those places. I always love the museums. The Shed is really cool too if you like fish and animals and stuff. There are boat rides at Navy Pier and a bunch of other stuff. I strongly suggest getting a bite to eat out there too. Uno's has amazing pizza my mom says (a Chicago-in). I hear they created the deep dish pizza. And even if it's not Uno's, go get Chicago pizza anyways. They say the farther from Chicago the worse the pizza =). Theres so much to do down there Im 100% sure you'll find something to do. Oh yeah, The Sears Tower! Even go by the beach and go for a bike ride or just walk on around. Hope this helped! [ bLue_in_tHe_faCe's advice column | Ask bLue_in_tHe_faCe A Question ]
clouded_bluee answered Saturday June 30 2007, 7:40 pm: Honestly, there's nothing really to do in Chicago. All there is, you could go to Navy Pier. They have boat rides, one of the largest Faris Wheels(sp), and more. Also, shopping. There's gooood shopping downtown (chicago). There's also beachs, or you could go see a play or musical, on not sure what's out right now though. Hope I helped! [ clouded_bluee's advice column | Ask clouded_bluee A Question ]
