Ginny can be a person's actual name, but it's also short for Virginia [as many people already said] or Ginevra. I've only heard the latter in Harry Potter, though.
My favorite names for a girl & boy are Madison and Jeffrey.

i didn't know ginny was short for anything, though jenny is short for jennifer. anyway. my favorite boy names are noah and jonas. i'm not really sure why. my favorite girl name is lily because it was my great grandmother's name. for some reason i really like biblical names like elijah and rachel.

Ginny doesn't sound familiar shorten for a different name. It almost sounds like Jenny. Jenny can be short of Jennifer or just be Jenny.
My favorite girls names are Danielle and Kelsey. Kelsey can be spelled many ways like Kelsi.
My favorite boys names are Dean and Logan.

I can't answer the Ginny question, since I've only heard that name in Harry Potter. Haha =)

Personally, I love Trevor, Jordan, Andon, and Kyle. For girls, I like Haliee, Halli (HAL-e), Hannah, Alexis, or Taylor Kate.
