I woke up with stomach pains yesterday, and when I went to the doctor, he told me we'd have to wait a day and that if it persisted, he would check for appendicitis. It still hurts today, but not as much. I told my mom I'd rather kill myself than have someone carve into me with a knife, and I meant it. I saw how they performed an appendectomy on Lost, and I know it's not gonna feel good but, I don't wanna go through that! I asked my friend, who had it done, and ALL she told me was : "all I know is I was crying like a bitch!", and then she laughed, which wasn't much help. Do you feel them digging in to you, or do you only feel it after the operation? Does it really hurt that much? What the heck do we have that crap in our body for in the first place?! Thanks in advance guys.

I had appendicitis when I was fourteen. The actual surgery doesn't hurt at all. After, you're extremely sore. But, you still feel better; you don't have that stabbing pain in you side anymore. It's just tough to get up and move for a few days. Mine started on a Friday night, it felt like stomach circles (my friend makes fun of me to this day, because that's how I explained the pain that night). It didn't hurt too bad, but when I woke up Saturday morning, it hurt so much just to get out of bed; it basically came out of nowhere. Anyway, I was in surgery Saturday night, around 5, and I woke up at about 7:30. I didn't feel a thing. I left the hospital around one or two in the afternoon the next day. I was back in school by Thursday. I could've gone earlier because I was feeling better, but my mom didn't want me carrying heavy books and whatnot.
The incisions they make are not that bad. I had three; one on my side, one on my belly button, and the other right below. They aren't even an inch big. It's been about two and a half years since I had mine, and you can barely see them. They're little white marks.
I've been told there's no reason for your appendix, but I just searched online and found something. They said scientists THINK they're found the purpose of it; it produces and protects good germs for your gut. That's just a theory though. I've been fine every since I had mine taken out, and so have millions of other people.

Something was left on my door, like an official piece of cardboard paper. It says it's from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management Federal Investigative Services. The note on it says, "It is necessary that I speak with you regarding an individual who is being considered for a position of trust with the U.S. Government. Your comments regarding this individual's fitness and suitability would be greatly appreciated." It also has the name and phone number of an investigator on it.

Does anyone know what this is about?

Like the others said, it's probably someone that's applying for a job with the government. My neighbor was going for a promotion with NASA, so my mom had to fill out a paper, like what kind of neighbors they were, how often we associated with them, etc. It's probably something similar to that.

15/f/junior (next year)

So I was put into the APUSH class for next year bc i had a 98 average in my CP class, and I am freaking OUT because ive been hearing rumors that APUSH is basically a synonym for HELL, with its many essays and intense midterms and finals (we even have to do 6 essays and write a 1-page-long single space introduction about ourselves by september 19)

if youve taken it, what are your experiences with the course?

also do you think i should take this class? i am prone to procrastination, i hate writing essays, and im an avid perfectionist so if i got under an 88 grade in the class i know ill be beating myself up about it. i dont even like history that much, but since i was rejected from AP Composition i dont have any other AP course on my schedule, which is bad since i want to go to Princeton, an Ivy League!! so should i just drop the course before i do all this summer work if i know i wont be 100% committed?

I'm not going to lie, it is a really hard class. It requires A LOT of work. You're basically covering all the material from the ice age to Bill Clinton- in detail. In my class, we had a test about every two weeks, but it covered like three or four chapters. And they were long chapters- like 30 pages each- I'm not exaggerating at all. In my class, we didn't write too many essays, but when we did, it was helpful towards the AP exam you take in May. I'm just like you- procrastinate a ton, but then beat myself up about it at the end because I didn't do better. I've spent so many nights up until 4 in the morning, trying to cram all the chapters in in one night. It doesn't work. If you're going to Princeton or some other IV League school, this would be a really good class to take. But you can't procrastinate. I did, but I only did okay in the class because I had a SUPER nice teacher. I ended up with a C+ in the class, I think. I don't think the material you study is too hard, but there's so much of it. The class is extremely time consuming. For summer reading, we had to read four chapters in the book, read another book that we chose out of a list and write an essay, and then read another book (Founding Brothers [which is TERRIBLE, by the way]) and do notes and an essay for that.
Whatever you do in the class, such as essays, I'm sure it will help a lot for the exam, which isn't easy. On the exam, there's I think 80 multiple choice, two essays [you can choose between two], and a DBQ [document based question]. It's not easy, but the class really prepares you for it if you take advantage of it.
Like you, I don't like history much, and I really wanted an AP class in my schedule. You can't procrastinate, and you need to do all the work, the best you can. If you get college credit after taking the exam, it's all worth it.

If you're 18, you can buy cigarettes, vote, and go to war. But also, if you get in trouble with the law, you're tried as an adult, and you still can't drink alcohol.

can a baby become addicted, and feel the need for tobacco if the mother smokes? can it become addicted to alcohol? anything?

I just did a health project on babies that were affected by the mother's use of illegal drugs. With any illegal drug, the baby will most likely be born premature, have brain damage, the woman is more likely to have a miscarriage, etc. The baby can be addicted to the drug and they will suffer from withdrawal symtoms. You can use google to find exactly what drug has what withdrawal symptoms.
As for alcohol and smoking, I'm not sure if the baby will necessarily become addicted, but they will be smaller than normal, and like the other columnist said, can suffer from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

I work at a grocery store as a cashier. The store I work at is family owned, so it's only located where I live. The specific store I work at hires at 16, but some hire at 15 1/2.
I make $7. But keep in mind-I live in Ohio, so the cost of living is much cheaper than let's say, California. Minimum wage here is $6.85. I started at $7 an hour, so eventually I'll get raises and everything. In my first six weeks, I made $530. Taxes suck.
If you decide to work at a grocery store, make sure you know your vegetables :)

I'm pretty sure you can legally babysit at 12. I started babysitting my cousins when I was about 11, but they were older, like second grade at the youngest. It depends on the age of the kids you're watching, but I think 13 is a perfect age.

okay this is the most stupidest question i have ever asked anyone but here it goes, me and my friend were watchin grounded for life on TV today and it was the episode where the mom has the baby during Lilly's highschool graduation and she said she thought it was one of the last episodes and i said i thought it was one of the first because i swore i seen her later on the show or antother show...so we googled it and didnt really find anything but i dont know who the girl im thinking of is, she is on some TV show (maybe an older one) she is short kinda chunky and has like wavy dark brownish hair maybe was like 9 or 10 and on one of the episodes she left a bowl of pudding on the couch and her mom sat in it and she was wearing her sisters wedding dress so she put a big bow on the back blah blah blah but could someone PLEASE tell me which show this is and who the girl is when i try to think of the name i think of marcie or macy idk any help is appreciated because its been bothering me all day

In Grounded for Life, that episode is one of the last, if not the last. The other show you're talking about is Still Standing. The little girl's name is Soleil Borda. She isn't in Grounded for Life- the shows were made around the same time, so she couldn't have been.
If you go to imdb.com and type in Grounded for Life, it'll give you a list of the actors and which character they play, and then a list of shows and movies they've been in.

a few weeks ago, a nurse told me that if you get your period after you've had sex that it doesn't mean you aren't pregnant. she said it might just be spotting. can i get any confirmations on this? i did get my period, but i usually get really really bad cramps and this month i still have them, but not as bad as usual. and i had sex with this guy a few weeks ago, so...any ideas????

Try to find out why she said that. Then, from her answer, decide whether its worth being friends with her. If you she doesn't have a good reason why or doesn't apologize, don't be friends with her. A real, good friend wouldn't say something like that. You don't need that. Don't act like you're friends with her unless she comes back and apologizes, then you can decide if you'd like to be friends with her again.

but the question is, how do you go shopping when you have no money!

For Christmas, I really don't think you need to go all out for your friends. Save that for birthdays. Just give them a little something, and it's still meaningful.
Last year for Christmas, I got my friends a coffe mug, with two packs of hot chocolate and some candies inside. Then I made chocolate covered pretzels and chocolate covered peanuts and put them in little baggies. I got this stuff at the dollar store, for probably under $15, depending on how many you're getting.
Or, you could do like a movie themed gift. Give them $10 to blockbuster, popcorn, and candy.
You could also buy a picture frame and put pictures of the two of you in it. Meaningful, and cheap.
Earrings is fine, maybe just give them a necklace, too, or a braclet. You can also just get them nail stuff, like top/base coat, french manicure kit, things like that. Or a make up bag. You can buy a bag for cheap, then put like eyeliner, mascara, and eyeshadow in it. Or just do a variety of soaps, body washes, sprays.
