I've been away for a while due to a serious illness and subsequent health issues. Favourite quotes of the moment:
The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years - Even in biblical times men wouldn't ask for directions!
Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. whatever we do to the thread, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle.
We spend the first 12 months of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next 12 years telling them to sit down and shut up!
As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never be pointing the wrong way.
May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.
I've been very happily married since August 1980 to a wonderful man and have beautiful twin girls, now aged 31. Both are married to wonderful young men and one of our girls has recently made us grandparents to a beautiful, smart and feisty granddaughter. I studied geology with the Open University. I am retired from being a manager in a large UK based insurance company which I actually quite enjoyed. (How sad is that?). I love anything to do with the environment and wildlife and try to do my bit for preservation and conservation. I would like there to be a decent world for our grandchildren to inherit. I also have CFS so find life a bit of a challenge at times but always hope for better health in the future.
I have a deep interest in the spiritual and the paranormal worlds, having experienced several incidents myself, and have been involved in meditation groups and groups that (safely) explore the paranormal. There is more to this life than we would normally credit, so an open mind is always the best option. You're not so likely to get caught by surprise!
I have a deep fascination for anything to do with Ancient Egypt, as you can probably tell by my name. I have statues and paintings all around the house. As my hubby has a similar interest in Native Americans, we tend to have a lot of unusual wall decorations, like a tomahawk.
I love cars, especially vintage ones, but my all time favourite has to be the Bugatti Chiron, what a car!
I have had a lot to do with animals over the years. I have fostered many, helped to set up a wildlife charitable hospital and raised a diverse range of young animals from bats to fox cubs and different species of birds, even a baby deer! I have had great pleasure in sharing my life and home with a number of animals over the years, most of them rescues. I am currently sponsoring an Amur Tiger, they are such beautiful cats and desperately need help, there are so few of them left. I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to meet some Aye-Aye's and Livingstone's Bats, a truly wonderful experience. We now have three cats, Oliver and Mollie, a brother and sister, he's a ginger and she's a tortoiseshell and a black and white called Daisy. She arrived in a taxi and was left on our doorstep in a cat carrier with the message that 'they knew we loved cats and would be good to her'. She has settled down well and gets on wonderfully with the other two.
If you have a pet that is showing ANY signs of illness or distress, please, please, please take it to a vet! Even if finance is an issue, work that out later. It is cruel to leave an animal suffering for any reason. Most animals do not show signs of illness until they have been ill for some time, basic instinct tells them it is a display of vulnerability, and certain death in the wild. Their instincts have not caught up with domesticity.
I do feel that we should all treat others as we would wish to be treated. Bad karma comes back to haunt us.
advice
I feed my gold fish fish flakes is it better to vary their diets or keep them on the one food substance. If it is better to vary their diets what are the different foods on south australia can you buy...
thanks in advance
Flakes are fine as long as it's a reputable make, as goldfish are usually not that fussy about variety as long as they get to eat.
If you want to try a treat and if you can get them in S Australia, try dried ants eggs, as long as the fish are big enough to manage them. The directions should be on the container, but generally fish love them.
Hope that helps and good luck.
My 17 year old is 5'6" and weighs over 200 lbs.
She also has a very large bust and upper body--such as abdominal fat. I have tried everything to get her to diet & exercise, and our house is full of nutritional food. She has been to the Dr for this also, but chooses not to take an active roll in her health.
She says she is happy the way she is. She buys expensive clothes, but they do not fit right. For example today she had a sports bra on and she was litterly hanging out--and it was more noticable because she was wearing a skin tight t-shirt. She also wears low wasted pants, and either her crack is showing or she is walking around hanging on to her pants.
I have tried to take her shopping, I have bought her clothes, I have showed her pictures of plus size models, but she refuses to have any part of it. I have never intended to hurt her feelings, but the bottom line is I hate to have people gawking and making fun of her. She says "I don't care what they think, why do you?" I have tried to tell her she will get along in the working world better if she dresses to suit her body style, but of course she doesn't listen.
Any suggestions on how to help her either lose weight or dress better?
Oh dear, you do sound as though you have problems!
There's not a whole lot you can do now she's 17 and mobile. At that age most young people think they know everything and their parents are so behind times they practically live in caves. Luckily by the time they are in their early twenties they start to realise that actually they're not old enough to know as much as they think they do, and start to listen to mum again.
The only suggestion I can offer, as you cannot forcibly make her wear clothes that will flatter her figure, is a bit drastic but may work.
Take some photo's of her, the worse they make her look the better, and put them all over the house. Especially on the fridge and food cupboards.
Whatever happens I wish you the best of luck, teens are always difficult to deal with and parents need nerves of steel for a few years.
Hi.
i really need advice. Me and my sister always argue and sometimes it gets phisical, like punching. I really try not to argue with her and it doesn't work. I've tried talking to her about it and that doesn't work. I really want to stop arguing with her. I've talked to my parents about it and they say to ignore it, but i tell them that doesn't work but they won't listen. What do i dso to try and stop??
Thanks sooooo much
-YOLIV
That happens rather a lot in families. I understand that you have already tried to talk to her but can you try again at a point when you're not fighting, tell her that you don't want to fight anymore and try to work out some sort of code for when one of you wants out of the conflict.
There are so many reasons for siblings to fight, jealousy, being too alike, too different, wanting to be top dog etc. The good news is that this fighting should help you in years to come to assert yourself with others and not be taken advantage of.
I understand that it's frustrating that your parents are not getting involved but there's really not a whole lot they can do unless they actually witness violence. Then they could and should step in.
Can you just walk away when the fights start and tell your sister that you just don't want to go down that route again?
The chances are that when you have grown up and moved away from home you both will get on a lot better, it is very difficult to share a space with someone when you had no choice in it. As you get older, you both will start to go your own ways anyway and will see less of each other.
I know it's not much but I hope it helps and I wish you the best of luck.
OK so I just read this: "Many mothers-to-be get a few days of bleeding right around the time that the early embryo is burrowing into the wall of the uterus. On average, this occurs five days after conception and may be confused with an early period, especially if the woman is not keeping close track of her cycles."
I just got OFF my period maybe like July 31st or Aug. 1st. somewhere in there and about 5 or so days later I noticed for like 2 or 3 days that i had LIGHT bleeding. This is sooo not normal for me. (I'm in my 20's so my periods are regular) and this is not something that has ever happened to me. I really want to be pregnant, so it wouldnt bother me at all. Has anyone ever had this happened (That had REGULAR periods) and came to find they were pregnant? I was ovulating around that time also and had unprotected sex. If you ahvent expiernced it personally, I'd still like whatever info you may have to share on this. I Rate.
It does sound possible. Are there any other symptoms? Needing to urinate more frequently, sore breasts, more emotional than normal, nausea?
I had the same thing when I was first pregnant but I also had the other symptoms. Worried me rather a lot at the time as I wasn't expecting to be pregnant at that point.
I think perhaps you should take a pregnancy test just to check. Bear in mind though that you can get a false negative but it is unusual to get a false positive.
Hope that helps and good luck.
Anybody got any suggestions on how to quit smoking? I've been doing it since I was 15 and I'm 24 now. I smoke a pack a day and I really want to quit. I'm trying to get pregnant so I know I need to and now's the time. Cold Turkey didnt work for me even though that may be the best way to go. It seems like I'll quit for a day or so then something I consider to be "hectic" happens and I feel like I cant concentrate or fix whatever problem I'm having until I smoke. All idea's would be helpful and I'll definatly take into consideration. Thanks.
Depending on finances, there's hypnotherapy, acupuncture, gum, patches, dummy cigarattes and the doctor.
The first two options are pricey but have had excellent results. Some people have quit after 2-3 sessions.
Make sure that everyone knows so they don't offer you one or can help to stop you if your resolve weakens. Keep a picture of a cute baby or a cot/crib that you would really like to have and look at it when you feel the urge to smoke. Avoid places where smokers go and under no circumstances go into any shop that sells cigarettes until you feel stronger and more able to resist.
Take up a hobby that will occupy your hands when you would normally smoke, (like knitting baby clothes?) and if you usually reach for one when you have eaten, or have a coffee break, get up as soon as you have finished eating and drink your coffee with company or standing up so you don't get into that 'comfort zone'.
It will be awful for the first few days but then it should start to get easier, you've had the strength to make that decision so now just hold on in there.
It's great that you want to do this and you will feel the benefit of it quite soon.
Hope that helps and I wish you the best of luck for quitting and for the future pregnancy.
can you admire a person and like them at the same time? For instance, my sis's friend told my sis that she admired me,does that mean that she likes me as well?
And is there a difference from liking someone to loving someone?
There is a good chance that she does like you as well as she appears to know you. It is possible to admire someone without knowing if you like them or not. Think about some famous person you have never met. You can't really say you like them if you don't know them, however, you can admire them.
There is a vast difference between liking and loving, it is difficult to actually pinpoint the differences until you have experienced true love. When it happens you will know the difference, but briefly, if you feel you would be unable to cope without someone in particular and they make your day just by being in it, you would do anything for them, and their happiness comes before your own, that is generally love.
Hope that helps and good luck.
ok well i know about the whole discharge thing ( i have my period) but lately when i cum (after like masturbating and just randomly) it has been kind of yellowish and it smelled slightly like fish. Is it an infection? If it is, how do i get rid of it?
A fishy smelling discharge is usually Bacterial Vaginosis or BV. It's where the natural bacteria is out of proportion, so too much of the bad and not enough of the good stuff. It needs to be treated with antibiotics but is easily got rid of.
No one knows for sure why some women develop it but a couple of things that are thought to help get it are contraception and douching.
Hope that helps and good luck.
my dog has the worst breath in the world.it is way to much $ to take her to the vet to get her teeth cleaned so i need something to get the smell gone.
thanxxx
If you're sure her breath isn't bad due to rotting teeth or her diet, there are several products you can buy from your local pet store that should help. You may need to try a few before you find the one that works the best as all dogs are different.
If your dog is really old, there could be a health issue making her breath bad like failing kidneys.
If none of the odour control products work, it may be time to take her to the vets just to ensure that there is nothing else going on. It's not always just a case of needing the teeth cleaned. If you can't afford a vet, there should be some organisations that will offer reduced cost vet checks.
Hope that helps and good luck.
im 14m and my doctor told me i need to increase my physical activitys because im at risk of having high blood pressure. swimming was working out but because it's aguast that's only gonna last me 2 or 3 more weeks. and i hate exercising because it's boring and i always get tired and feel bad about my self and when im in the pool i have fun and don't get tired or sweat and it isn't boring and i hear that in high school you get alot of homework so i don't know how im gonna find the time to please my teacher and my doctor at the same time
help!
If you don't have a local indoor pool, still need to exercise but it bores you, how about trying something that involves others so at least you have company?
If that is not possible, you could take a walkman, ipod etc with you for company, also the rhythm of the music can help to keep you going. If you're concerned about things you need to learn at school, you could record facts etc onto a cassette and play that as you are walking/running, it may help to get over the joint problems of exercising and studying. It's not a nice position to be in and you have my sympathies.
Hope that helps and good luck.
I have like 8 questions so its all in one so..
My uncle has cancer. He has for a couple months and he has had kemo and just the results and it didnt help him.And i know that he is ganna die because there is no cure for cancer. And everyone is acting like im dumb and talking queity around themselves like i dont know what there talking about and when i ask questions they look at me like what and there dumbfonded!!I am curiose i wanna know how long he has before he...and i know my questions are hard to answer but atlest they can lie to me and make me feel better but no they dont answer me and i kept in the dark i stay up late at night trying to answer my questions myself cause no one else will and my aunt yells at me saying that i shouldnt say up late at all hours of the night. And im close to this uncle i love him cause all my other family memebers like aunt and 1 other uncles are either dead or major jerks and i only see them and christmas. And ive been spending alot of time with my uncle and his wife asks me ohh why are you here???wonder why right but i only wanna see him cause my last aunt had cancer and the last time that everyone went to go see here i wne tto my uncle pooches cause she was too sick and i was only like 6 or somthing and i never saw her again.Well school is starting and i stayed back and if i dont start getting good grades people highly doubt that im ganna grauduate high school and im only in the middle but i want good grades i wanna be like yeah suprised im smart ohh but im scared that im ganna get the news that my uncle is dead in the middle of school and start crying infront of everyone i hate crying ifront of my own mother cause she gets worried so i havent cried yet.Cause i will breck down cause i love my uncle and ive tried telling my closest frineds and there like its only your uncle great thing to say to someone right.I am also over weight in wiegh i think almost 200 pounds and im 14 so i wanna go on a diet so and i cant go to the stpore and buy fruit and my mom dont so i was thinking of eating a little of bad food cause its all i got.and i also eat anytime i wantso i want that to stop so when should i stop eating at night and start in the morning....and hoiw many meals and snacks...i know it super long but please help i need it....

Phew that's some problem you have there. Let's take it in order:
It's great you care that much about your uncle, it's really terrible that he has cancer, but please keep in mind that there are cures for cancer these days, ok, they don't work for everyone but things are improving. You need to find out more details.
I understand that everyone is very upset about all this, and most people will find it difficult to talk about, especially to younger family members. Could you perhaps write a letter to your mum or aunt? Try to explain how scared you are and how you feel about your uncle. Also that you understand how difficult things are at the moment, but you need someone to talk to you about all this. Tell them that you remember what happened to your aunt so you really need more information. Write it so that it is coming from concern for your uncle and not for yourself. You need to be careful you're not seen as being selfish at this point in time. If the letter works and someone does talk to you, stay calm and go into more detail, especially if it's your mum. Tell her you are so upset by it all that it is disturbing your sleep and affecting your grades in school.
Maybe you should cry in front of your mother, it may worry her, it may be worrying her that you haven't cried. She is not to know what is going on inside your head. It is up to you to communicate this.
If your uncles cancer is terminal, it would be a good idea if you actually tell him you love him before it's too late. It will make him happy and avoid you regretting for years that you never took the opportunity.
If none of this is possible, talk to a family friend or school councillor, and ask if they can act as a go between, your mum really does need to know what is going on with you.
Now to the school thing. Staying back a year can seem like the end of the world but if you look on it as another opportunity, you could find this is the break you need to get your studies under control. Ask for all the help you need, your school will want you to succeed. If they are also aware of all the problems you are facing at the moment they will want to do everything they can to help.
And onto the weight problem. 200lbs is a little heavy for 14 unless you are very tall, but it is not a disaster either. Try to eat 6 small well balanced meals a day, eat 5 portions of fruit and veg each day, again try to talk to your mum and explain what you are trying to do and if she can get more nutritional food in. Some exercise every day is good, a brisk walk for 20-30 minutes, or a a few lengths of a pool, something to get your heart beating faster and get you a little out of breath, but don't go mad, especially when you first start. Try not to eat too many calories after 6pm, stick to fruit and low cal snacks, as the body is winding down for the night from then and won't burn them off so well. You need to eat regularly so that your body doesn't think there is a famine and stores fat.
Don't expect results overnight, but if you manage to stick to this you should start to notice a difference within a month. The slower you lose the weight the less likely you will be to put it back on. Also, please bear in mind that at your age, some of it is likely to be puppy fat, which you should lose naturally as you get older. However, a sensible eating plan is always a good idea.
I really hope that helps, I wish you and your family the very best of luck at this difficult time. If you want to come back to me, please do.
Well I have a hamster named mini &+ a mouse named friedrich. Well I went campinq for a weekend &+ when I came back my hamster qot REALLY fat. I dont normally play with him that much to where two days would make him that fat so what do you thinks wronq ? what should i do because I am in four-h &+ i show him at fair. Like what could I do to make him lose weiqht?
As hamsters are solitary animals, I take it they are not in the same cage? If they are or maybe just because you weren't there for a couple of days, your hamster could have been stress eating.
It also depends on how old Mini is and where the weight seems to have been gained. Have you checked her cheek pouches have not become impacted? This can give the appearance of weight gain.
Are there any other symptoms? If the room is kept too cool, she may be trying to hibernate, (even in summer). Look for slight staggering and a cooler than normal body.
If you need more help or can answer these questions, I'll be happy to give more information.
Is it true if you add celery or aspargus to your diet, you will loose weight? They say it does because it takes more calories to digest the celery than to eat it. Only answer if you know for sure, please.
I don't know about asparagus but celery has negative calories. That means you burn more calories eating it than it holds. However, you would get pretty bored of just eating celery all the time.
Hope that helps.
My nephew is being orn today so im wondering ow long a c-section takes and how long will the child and mother be in the hospital following the procedure
From what I remember from my C -Section, the procedure took only minutes. However, I was in hospital following this for 9 days. This can vary depending on whether everything is straight forward and the baby is the right weight and healthy.
Your aunt will be quite sore for some time and unable to pick up anything heavy, but recovery is good. Laughing will probably be painful for a while and she will be surprised by how much the abdominal muscles are used.
Hope that helps and good luck to them both.
i have a job and i usually work mornnings. And that means i have to wake up around 530am. I have a really loud alarm clock but im a hard sleeper and i dont hear it.
It usually has been going off for around 15 - 30 mintues before i actually hear it.
Dont tell me i need to go to bed earlier. i go to bed around 10 pm. And i cant put the alarm right next to my bed because ill end up turning it off.
Anything that will help me get up with the alarm?
It's horrible having to get up early, and so hard.
You could try putting the alarm clock in a saucepan. This intensifies the sound rather a lot, but it might wake up everyone else too.
If you put it out of arms reach you will have to get up to switch it off. Then, as you are up, you may as well stay up and and get ready for work.
Sorry I can't think of anything else, but you do have my sympathies.
you know what stys are right? well i think i have them. they are like all over my eyes! i have like 3 on one side and 1 on the other and one or two are going away but theres still some you know? well i was wondering how do u get rid of them?
You could have developed them from having low immunity following an illness or picked them up from somewhere an active virus was still present.
If you touch one then touch another part of your eyes you will transfer the virus to that area as well. It is important that you try to avoid this. You will need to see either your doctor or pharmicist, depending on how severe the problem is, they should be able to give you cream or drops to clear them up.
Don't allow anyone else to touch them, or they risk catching them as well if they do not wash their hands straight away.
They are not serious, just annoying and sometimes itchy or painful.
Hope that helps and good luck.
I've had a problem for a few years with gas bloat in my stomach. Usually it happens after I eat, but not all the time. Tonight I had mexican food and about an hour after I got back home I started to bloat just below the ribs. It's finally subsiding now, but it was REALLY painful, so much that it bent me double when I tried to stand straight. It happens when I drink soda as well (which gives me painful hicups on top of that).
Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing this and why the gas isn't being let out quicker? I also have trouble with burping, I can feel the gas come up but then it just stops. Any help would be much apreciated!
It sounds as though you could have IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I've included a couple of websites for you to look at to see if any of the symptoms apply. If they do, you need to go and see your doctor as there are various things that can be done to make you feel more comfortable, including slightly amending your diet. It is a very uncomfortable thing to have so the sooner you get it checked out the sooner you will feel better. Another possibility is lactose intolerance. Lactose is included in many different foods, some that seem unlikely choices for it. Again you need to see a doctor to get this checked out.

How come if you have sex with your cousin or any family member and get pregnant, the chances of the baby being deformed or mentally retarted are increased? I don't understand why. I know it has something to do with the genes are so like, but I'm still confused.
Genetically, family members are more alike than any other people, the closer the relationship the more alike the genes are likely to be. If there is a genetic 'disability' in the family, this could increase the chances of it being passed on, as it becomes concentrated.
However, that said, if two unrelated people have the same disability in both families, they also have a greater chance of passing it on.
Even if there are health issues in a family this does not necessarily mean that these 'faults' are passed on, it's just that the chances are greater. It also does not automatically mean that any off spring of cousins are going to be mentally retarded, (a common myth). My parents are cousins and I have no problems with my mental abilities.
Hope that helps.
i have this cousin who is 15 and im 13 and he is so hot and he has been checking me out and i was wondering (we are blood related) what would happen if we made out or worse.
Unless you are in an area where a relationship between cousins is considered illegal, I can see absolutely no reason for not going ahead, if he is willing. Providing, of course, your parents have no objections, (and you do have to consider their feelings due to your ages).
I have to say that in answer to the advice you have already received on this subject, my parents are first cousins and have been married for 51 years now. In no way is it 'icky' and I do not consider myself to be mentally handicapped, quite the reverse, my IQ is above average.
True, if you do go on to reproduce, there is a greater chance of genetic 'flaws' being passed on, but that risk is also there if unrelated people have the same problems in both of their families.
The only problem that I can see is that if the two of you should get together and then break up, it could make family get togethers a little tricky.
You need to think seriously about all these points, maybe talk to your parents and get their take on it, and make your decision based on facts, and the feelings of the people involved.
Hope that helps and the best of luck for whatever choice you make.
would it be wrong to date a guy a year younger than me. the thing is he lives in my neighborhood and me and his sister and others all hang out. would that be wrong.
There's nothing wrong with dating a guy that's a year younger than you. My mother is 3 years older than my father and they've been married 51 years. It's attitude and maturity that counts, (unless there's a huge age difference then there could be problems).
So go for it if you want to and the best of luck to you.
my best friend doesnt really have any parental guidence, like her mom is never home and doesnt really care what she does when shes gone. My friend is not a "slut" or anything shes never done anything really but she always has her boyfriend over and there're home by themselves. Is this a normal thing or should i say something? Rumors are starting about what they do and they are not true at all. Is this even any of my business>?
Thanks
She is lucky to have such a caring friend looking out for her.
You don't say how old she is but if she is under 16, her mother should definitely be taking more care of her.
You should advise her of what is being said, but you will need to let her and her boyfriend decide what to do about it.
You are quite right, you are not her mother and should not take on the responsibility of looking after her, you probably have enough to deal with in your own life. However, it sounds as though she really does need a good friend. Stand by her and tell the truth about the rumours if they are said to you, but let her choose what to do about her actions. It is not always what you are doing, but what you look as though you are doing that people take notice of.
Hope that helps and I wish you both the best of luck.
