I'm Christina, and I'm 27. I tend to be brutally honest when I give advice or an opinion. I don't tell people what they want to hear but rather what they need to hear. They don't always appreciate it at first, but I usually get a thank you in the end.

So I'm doing a paper on immigrant life in the 1800's. I've googled a bunch of stuff but can't really find what I'm looking for. The specifics I want are:
What it was like on the journey to America
Where they lived when they came here (To America)
What kind of jobs they had
What their home lifestyles were like (what they ate, did for fun, kids & schooling...)

Soo, if anyone knows of any good sites or you guys are just better at researching that I am please provide some really helpful links. All I've found was immigrant life in the late 1800's and early 1900's but what i mostly want is early 1800's to mid 1800's. Thanks in advance.

I'm telling you what I remember, so I might not remember certain names & whatnot. So therefore, I apologize in advance.

[1] As I've read in my textbooks in 8th grade-9th grade, immigrants had a very hard life. And the journey to America was diffucult. Ellis Island [which still stands today], was basically the biggest import for immigrants. They went through there, and got very hardcore procedures to see if they had diseases, illnesses & lice. Basically anything unwanted. The journey was hard basically because the boats were so crowded & disgusting, it was easy to get sick.

[2] When they came here, they most lived in NYC. That was "the land of oppurtunity" and that's where a lot of them were. There were neighborhoods for certain races & religions. Jewish people had their own neighborhood, so did the Irish, the Italians, the Polish, and so on. They lived in houses which I don't remember the names of, and those houses were very crowded mainly because there were a lot of other families living in them. Since space was limited, families had to live together with people they didn't know. The Chinese/Japanese families however, lived in California & the West because it was closer to Japan and China. As far as I know, they were treated like slaves & made the railroads.

[3] They had the jobs that none of the Americans wanted. They had to work in factories, or cleaning the streets. Anything for some money, but the pay was very low. It wasn't minimum wage, and the working conditions were horrible. The factories were unsanitary, & dangerous. They had tons of child labor, and lots of women.

[4] Their home lifestyle was probably sort of normal. Apart from sharing the house with several other families, they ate whatever was available to them, and whatever they could afford. For fun, they probably talked, or had get togethers. As for the kids, they worked in the factories & schooling was only available to the kids & families that could afford it.

For friend one, she's obviously not a real friend if she ditched you for friend two, even though she KNEW you guys had been fighting. It's like a best friend thing that you don't do that. Usually, a best friend will gang up on the bitch that has a problem with one of you. It's like a code, if you will. Every girl knows of it. Either she wasn't informed, isn't too bright, or just doesn't get it all together. If you're mad at her, don't say hi to her anymore. It makes no sense. When I'm mad at somebody, I cut them off completely. I stop talking to them, delete them off of my MySpace, whatever it takes. Once they piss me off, or prove they can't handle being trusted, they're officially dead to me, and there is no forgiveness. It's that simple.

If she doesn't get that you don't wanna be friends anymore, maybe you're being too nice about it. I mean, yes, you don't wanna hurt her feelings, but you also wanna get your point across to her so that she gets it. You've basically gotta be rude about it sometimes. So if that's what it takes, then go for it. Anything to make her get it. [Basically, you're not failing at making her get it, you're just learning ways that didn't work for you. There is no such thing as failure, unless it's at school] And once you know she gets it, find yourself some new friends [if you haven't already]. Girls who will be there for you & always have your back. Girls who won't backstab you or steal your boyfriend. Girls who give best friend a meaning, basically.

As for friend two, screw her. Don't say sorry to her at all. She started the fight, correct? If so, then you've got no reason to say sorry. Although you'd be the bigger woman, she doesn't deserve a sorry from you. She should be the one to apologize simply because she started it, and ended the friendship based on choice. The friendship ending was HER LOSS not yours. So don't feel inclined to say sorry, okay?

Just find yourself new friends, and ignore those two for good. I'm not telling you to just ignore an apology from them, you must definitely take it into consideration if you hear it, but until then, show no mercy, and don't back down. Stand up for yourself, and what you believe in. You don't always have to wait for someone else to apologize though. There are certain times to be the better/bigger person, and certain times not to. You should probably learn when those times are.

i just started to skateboard, like today. do i jus practice and ill learn in time, or will i fall off after 20seconds always? and whenever i push with my left leg, and hop on, it moves for about, 20seconds maybe. do i need to loosen the wheels or what? thanks in advance?

Okay, I just started to skateboard last year, but where I live, I can't skate for about 3-6 months out of the year due to rain & snow. But, what I've learned so far, I'll share with you.

Practice, practice, practice. You'll learn in time like you said, and things will come easier to you. Most people just end up teaching themselves certain things. I'm teaching myself to skate.

For the first couple hundred times, you will definitely fall off because you're not going to have immeadiate balance. You're gonna fall back, and you're gonna fall forward. Try and find the spot where you balance best on the skateboard, and ride like that.

If you're only pushing your left leg once, push it some more & then hop on. But if you only move for 20 seconds, then yeah, loosen your wheels because they might be too tight & just keep you in the same place.

I've been trying to watch what I eat lately, and it doesn't seem to be working. I have trouble controlling the amount of calories I intake, and it's getting to be a problem. I'm on the verge of being overweight, and I've been getting more active. Food is the only thing in the way.

What can I do to help restrain myself from eating just junk. Any suggestions or tips? Anything?

Instead of reaching for junk food, go for a fruit or something. And instead of drinking soda, drink water. Exercise for 30 minutes a day, everyday. And don't exercise or eat before bed.

I been dating my boyfriend for sometime now. Two words: Restraining. Order. It seems unethical to get one because that's the father of your kid, blah blah blah. But you need one. Your own kid is scared of him. He gets fired from his jobs, [only causing him to not get any in the future because the references], and he's basically not any good. When you guys had this kid together, you should've known from the start he wouldn't have stuck around, and he's not going to.

Go to a hair salon & ask for things that help your hair to grow. Eat healthy, and maybe you'll grow, and don't wear an underwire bra to bed. Those are the only things I know of to help you.
