Why do sum people always say G-d insted of God!?It's only bad wen u use His name as a swear word!So its ok to say God if ur not swearing!it's soo annoying! (link)
According to some religions, it is not correct to ever write God, so they use G-d instead.

ummmm, so the link for the chat says Chat Room (3) but whence forth I enter, it says I am the only one in it, DLBot is not even in it, and it automatically de ops me. Fix this immediately or I will be forced into slumber! (link)
This is because of the IRC network barfing constantly. The last time DLBot reported the users, there were three. Because the bot was not there to send updates, the website continues to show 3. Also, if chanserv and nickserv are dead, the first person in a room is auto-oped, until services are restored.

i've had a knee problem for quite awhile. my doctor put me on "extreme resting", consisting of as little walking as possible, no juming, no running, no P.E., no going fast, no sports. period.

i've been doing this for 2 months, with no avail to my problems. i have a second MRI thursday, but i am becoming discouraged that i'll ever be able to do the things i enjoy again. how can i stay motivated?

thanks. (link)
As hard as this might be to hear... 2 months really isn't that long an amoun of time. I know it has got to suck, but think about it this way - would you rather your knee get fixed, and get fixed right, or lose your ability to walk forever?

Personally, I'd rather be able to walk.

Talk to your doctor and get it put as straight forward as possible - don't let them sugar-coat the answers for you. If you've an ACL tear, a ruptured meniscus, really, ANYTHING wrong with your knee, take it very seriously. Let your knee heal and let the doctors look into things. If you need surgery to repair damage - hey, better to get it out of the way now, and get it healed up fast than to try to push yourself too hard and too fast.

It is all about your perception. You are seeing yourself as falling behind and missing out. But think of how much more you'd be missing if this were permanent?

p.s. - Physical Therapists are your friends. Listen to them and let them help you. ;)

I'm 10lbs underweight, I need to gain weight. Now that I identified the problem I want to fix it, but I think I have an eating disorder. I hate to eat around other people and some days I don't eat at all. How can I gain weight? I look anorexic. (link)
Well, this would sound like you might want to consider taling to either a doctor or a counselor about this issue - it might be anxiety or some other issue that causes you to feel ill at ease when consuming food around others. I don't think anyone here is equipped to really give you the real help you might need. In all seriousness, talk to a doctor about this.

okay i have a question about how to people get music in there pro and those pop up things that go HEY wElCoMe tO mY pRo. or then when you leave it gose ThAnKs 4 vEiWiNg or something and then there is like a star or something when you leave. understand? i donno really how to explain it if it is confusing sorry but please help!!!! thanks (link)
Honestly, the people who put music on their colums, and use javachat to cause pop-up messages should be shot. I despise that crap.

Because the pop-ups are annoying. Popups are the bane of the internet - why would I want to encourage more of them?

And the music - generally, people put music of shit that I have no desire to hear on their pages.

As for the code, as a site, the people who help run it (myself included) don't help with that. In fact, in round 2, more of that kind of code will be disabled.

I don't know what to do!! i have till thursday to decide whether or not to play cello in 9th grade. Cuz registration is on thursday. My stand partner wants me to stay in so she wont be the only girl...but i hate practicing.. So i don't know what to do. Help me! (link)
Honestly, if you're not willing to practice for the love of music, then this isn't something you should choose to do.

will an ipod mini work on an hp ... and is there any special hookup needed to download songs ? (link)
The iPod mini, like I think all iPods, can connect either via FireWire (iLink / IEEE 1394) or by a USB connection. Assuming your HP system has been manufactured after 1995, you likely have USB on it.

Hey MFS, I'm dying here. I am totally lost in chemistry, an d I want to like...graduate high school! So, I'm failing...big time..and my teacher wants me to get an A or B because I'm his teacher assistant. It wont happen, but I need to at least try...Do you know any sites I could go to that'll help me with like..everything. I dont even know what I'm learning right now...Electrons, Atoms, Orbital stuff...and stuff.. Its crazy stuff!! I dont know, I need websites...soo thanks.. (link)

bah... who needs websites?

what sort of information are you looking for?

it would sound like molecular orbit theory and atomic structure, but what in particular do you need help with?

I am a thirteen year old female and I have a close male friend who is also thirteen. We are very good friends but we don't have any type of sexual relationship at all. Today we were having a discussion about soul mates and I decided that I think that he might be my soul mate, as in a friend not a lover. My question is, do you think it is possible to find your soul mate at thirteen? We are really good friends, I tell him everything and we are always together. (link)
The only way you'll ever know if you're right on the soul mate bit is to wait until you're about 30 years old and see if the two of you are still friends.

i try to do crunches every nite before i go to bed. how long do u think it would take if i did about 50-70 a nite to try to a get a 4 pac (at least) and how could you get rid of a double chin. ( i weigh about 102 ) and im 13 im also about 4'7 and im not that fat i just have chubby cheeks (sorta) and a little double chin. how can i get rid of that and how long would it take? (link)
WHAT IS WITH PEOPLE AND THEIR OBSESSION WITH DOING CRUNCHES?!?!?!?!

Really, I totally don't get it. No one exercise can fix everything. You need a MIX of exercises - you need a full routine to really get any real impact.

I mean, you're only 4'7", you weigh 102... you're freaking tiny. You should not be worrying about weight loss in the least! Crap! You have no weight to lose! If anything, choose an exercise routine to tone or build muscles, concentrating on the areas that you'd like to work out. Crunches alone won't really do you shit. You need to mix it up - by working out only one way, you actually run the risk of causing more harm than good because other muscles aren't getting worked out, and your physique loses balance.

16/f. I've been really curious about tanning salons. I really want to go to one, but my mom is kind of hesitant to let me do such a thing. Aside from it looking "fake", is it as dangerous as a tan from the sun, or is it less harmless? Also, my arms are tan (I have a "farmers tan") from wearing short sleeves, but I can't wear tank tops, show my stomach or even wear low cut tops (I don't want to wear TOO low cut tops, but right now, everything under my neck line is white...) and I want to get rid of that, so how would I even it out in a tanning bed? (link)
You can get UV exposure information on any tanning bed. I'd recommend you review that data, as well as read a bit on how to interpret the data.

UV radiation is what gives you a tan. Excesses are what can lead to cancer.

Tanning beds, much like the sun, dry out your skin, causing premature aging for those who abuse tanning beds.

I'll flat out tell you that most women I know who use tanning beds do so in the nude.

Whats easier and the most fun for a beginner with no musical experience to start with, a bass or guitar?

thanks!

(link)
The two are totally different in how you approach playing them.

Guitar is about chords - you play a lot of strings all at once to get at the sound. It is very chord driven in approach to plaing.

Bass is all linear. It is about walking lines, about building a supporting foundation underneath the band. It can be played many different ways, from jazz walking bass lines to the pop and slap of funk.

I would not say that either one is easier than the other. If you dig through my column, you'll find I've addressed this issue more than once. ;)

my breasts are 2 different sizes but you cant tell with my shirt on but when itz off u can

iz there something wrong with me

? (link)
No, in fact, that's very normal.

I've been working on my resume, but there is not a whole lot to it. I've basically had two jobs, and have volunteered at three different occasions. I want to find something in the animal care/veterinary field. But I'm still going to school full time, and am only finished with one semester of a Veterinary Technology major.

If I apply to every Vet clinic in the area, should I make a cover letter for each place? I'm most familiar with one certain clinic, because I've been the janitor there for a while, so I had no problem making a cover letter for them. But I don't really know what to say about all of the other clinics.

Should I just hand a resume in to each place, and hope for the best? Or should I make an individual cover letter for each clinic?

Is there anything else that I could do to spice up my resume? (link)
If you want, you can send me your resume to review. No matter what, have an individual cover letter for each place. You can indicate on your resume that you are still a student and working towards your degree in the field.

Send if you like to sporkopolis2001@yahoo.com and I'll give whatever feedback I can. You can send a cover letter draft as well.

ok i weigh about 133 and im 5'1.5. i play soccer and lift weights everyday so i know alot of that is muscle. but i have unwanted fat on me and i really want to get rid of, i think im fat but people tell me im not it really bothers me because when i look in the mirror i want to break it. what can i do? (link)
Break the mirror.

seriously.

I've told people to do that before.

If you can't walk past a mirror without finding flaws with yourself - it is time to break the mirror. Stop putting yourself down, stop seeing the negative in yourself. Break the mirror.

If weight is really bothering you, start with examining your diet, and make sure it is appropriately balanced. Change your workout routine - don't lift weights to build muscle... lift weights to tone the muscle you have - that way, you're not building more mass, just shaping and toning the muscle you already have. Talk to a trainer about how to make that change if you don't know yourself (generally, less weight and more reps). If you're not already, try jogging/running a bit more in place of some of the weight lifting you've been doing - keeps you in shape and builds your endurance.

And most importantly - If people tell you that you aren't fat, maybe... just maybe they know what they're talking about. Take the time to listen to them... break the mirror. Be happy with yourself. Digging for faults is never a good thing to do, especially to yourself.

i've been having a really tough time with gettig over my ex boyfriend because he was everything to me- but i Need to move on- no question about it. SO theres this new guy and i like him and he likes me a lot too. But somtimes he's shy and i want him to like open up. The reason for this is because he's never had like a realy gf! which is different, but its not like he's a geek or anything, he could've gotten plenty of girls but he's never really liked a girl that much.. he's kinda picky i guess. So should i go and try this guy out? cuz he's so fun to be around.. maybe it will make me stop thinking about my ex. What about this shy thing tho? Help please =D thanks so much- i'll rate (link)
Have you considered not worrying about guys for a while? There's nothing wrong with being boyfriendless. Just a thought.

Perhaps you should concentrate on becoming better friends with this new guy first, before you attempt to elevate the social status to something along the lines of boyfriend. Just talk to the guy. No need to force romance into it, just be friends and see where that leads. Building friendships is far more important that worrying about getting a new boyfriend. It is a good place to start.

dear advicenators,
can u please shatter some myth about the west? yeah i mean especially u.s.a, is the life very easy outhere? is education very flexible and simple? are people here very carefree?do people care about knowing other cultures etc? is marraige just a certificate for legal sex? u get married today and divorced tomorrow?do movies reflect the real u.s.a.? (link)
Movies tell you nothing about the USA.

There are still devout couples here. Really, I swear. Divorce is an all-too convenient way for many to stop working at their relationship. And no, marriage isn't really a certificate for legal sex. You can have sex without getting married perfectly legally. Marriage is about committment, though many have forgotten that.

Carefree? I suppose at times it can be. It can also be horridly stressful as the economy continues to do diddly-squat, job loss is everywhere, and finding a new job is hard as all hell as giant-ass corporations continue to cut jobs as a cost-savings, or ship jobs overseas for cheaper labor, only to get burned on it later in other ways.

Many of us do like to learn about other cultures. I have pursued the knowledge of my family tree as far back as we are able to take it. Culture and ethnicity are definitely a shaping factor, and are deserving of study. That said, there are also many ignorant buffoons who know only about the small town they grew up in, and enjoy not knowing jack-shit about the world around them.

Life being easy is just a matter of perception. Yeah, as opposed to some nations, we do have it easy. But that doesn't mean we don't have to work for it. It just happens that the high-profile people who make the news are the rich and famous, so they give this false impression that they are what represents America, as opposed to those of us who live more "mundane" lives. Of course, all that crap and needing to work doesn't stop me from playing in a band in my spare time, playing with my kids, and trying to pursue my various hobbies when I can.

Our education system is in upheaval right now. I really feel qutie badly for the kids caught up in the mess. The Federal government is really helping screw things up (a la the No Child Gets Left Behind Act - a total farce). College tuition is skyrocketing, making those of us with young children fear what getting a degree is going to cost in 15 years. I graduated college only 10 years ago... and the cost of my alma mater has gone up about 40% since then - totally absurd. And yet, there are higher priced institutions...

As far as eductaion being simple? That's a matter of perspective and what the goals are in learning. Not all the schools here are the same. Some excel in some areas while they lack in others. Some schools are underfunded, understaffed, and therefore underperform. There is no simple answer to that.

Carefree? Stress abounds, either in the workplace, in schools, in society in general, in our economic outlook, in our personal finanaces, everywhere. Being carefree isn't so much handed to you, as it is an option to try to convince yourself to behave that way. Again, there are those out there who have it much worse than us, there are those living in poverty, those living under tyranny and dictatorships who purposefully suppress their people, there are those who have nearly no rights and are just cogs in a machine - so in that respect, hell, we have it great. But for anyone to think that means that they can just show up here and *boom* they have it made... well, they are fooling themselves.

Hey MFS, this is xXxPinky615xXx (Emily). I had asked a question yesterday about a question being in my inbox and it wouldn't let me answer it. I was actually hoping you'd be one of the people to answer, but you didn't, so I'm asking you directly. If I click on my inbox, the question's text will show up but that's it. There is normally an option that says "Answer Question" or "Reject Question" But it doesn't have either of those options for me. I would give you the link to the question, but the link only shows up as my inbox link. Do you know what the problem might be? Is there a way to fix it? Thanks so much if you can help!

- Emily (link)
ok... that's just strange.

I am baffled. Try going to your inbox and then right click in the page and choose "View Source" I'm hoping that maybe somewhere in there the question's ID# might be referenced?

Are there other things in your inbox?

As a matter of fact, I'll ask a question to your inbox to test this to make sure there isn't some very strange error taking place.

Off the top of my head, I can only guess that there's some strange unclosed HTML tag or something that is keeping the middle of the page from rendering properly, or that breaks part of the php code to display your inbox...

Let's see what happens when I post a question to your inbox, and if that doesn't work, I might ask you to take some screen shots or something and email them to me so I can work with spacefem on fixing the issue.

p.s. - the fact that you are a fencer RULES!

I perspire under my arms alot. Im currently using speed stick but it does not help. Im a 17 year old guy and i need help desperately!
please perscribe me 2 a really good anti-persprant or what ever it takes!
as someone who works in a chemist, what do u suggest. Im in South Africa (link)
Degree, Old Spice - High Endurance, or any other antipersperant that indicates is it "time activated" or "body heat activated" might be worth looking into. I'm not sure what companies market which products in your area, but that's what to look for.

If you're up for reading labels, check for the presence of "aluminum zirconium" compounds, usually listed as an active ingredient in the product, and how much is present. One of the products I have lists Aluminum zirconium trichlorohydrex Gly (which I assume is glycol) at 19%. That is the agent responsible for keeping the area from perspiring.

There are more potent things out there, but I believe they would require a perscription from a doctor. I would suspect such products run the risk of skin irritation, which could lead to infections, just due to the nature of the product's potency along with the perpetual presence of bacteria in the underarm region.

Can someone help me translate a few things into spanish for me? (link)
