i've had a knee problem for quite awhile. my doctor put me on "extreme resting", consisting of as little walking as possible, no juming, no running, no P.E., no going fast, no sports. period.
i've been doing this for 2 months, with no avail to my problems. i have a second MRI thursday, but i am becoming discouraged that i'll ever be able to do the things i enjoy again. how can i stay motivated?
thanks.

EpMeg2010 answered Tuesday February 8 2005, 3:51 pm: Do you do any sports? I do cheerleading and my knee will hurt after a game. If you do wear a knee brace! It helps! Even just the elastic ones not the back ones! it doesnt matter! I have an elastic one and i think they work just the same!! See if this helps!!! Send me a question back anwering my question please maybe i can talk to my friend and some other people who have knee braces and come up with some reasons for ya!
FunnyCide answered Tuesday February 8 2005, 2:47 pm: ah.. the dreaded knee. I had a knee injury as well, but nothing as serious. I do know how boring the "extreme resting" thing is.. blah. You will be able to do the things that you once loved again!!! Do not stop loving them! I love horses, but for about two and a half months, I wasn't allowed to ride them. What I did was I made myself the most knowledegable that I could be about horses. I know alot more now, and since I now own a horse, it was actually a blessing in disguise. I would suggest that you study the things you enjoy. If it is softball, memorize all of the written plays, famous players etc. Tell yourself that you'll never get better if you lose heart. (because you wont!!) you have to be super positive, but not bubbly. lol =D Keep a smile on that face! The doctors will treat you like an adult if you act like one, and the doctors sure appreciate a smiling face with a good attitude!! I will pray about your knee, and so should you. God bless

Try to keep your mind busy. If you don't do what the doctor says now, there will be irreperable damage later. I know its especially hard for an active person, but keep your chin up. You will be able to do things again. Read, learn a craft, anything, just stay busy. [ chaos's advice column | Ask chaos A Question ]
MFS answered Monday February 7 2005, 8:57 pm: As hard as this might be to hear... 2 months really isn't that long an amoun of time. I know it has got to suck, but think about it this way - would you rather your knee get fixed, and get fixed right, or lose your ability to walk forever?
Personally, I'd rather be able to walk.
Talk to your doctor and get it put as straight forward as possible - don't let them sugar-coat the answers for you. If you've an ACL tear, a ruptured meniscus, really, ANYTHING wrong with your knee, take it very seriously. Let your knee heal and let the doctors look into things. If you need surgery to repair damage - hey, better to get it out of the way now, and get it healed up fast than to try to push yourself too hard and too fast.
It is all about your perception. You are seeing yourself as falling behind and missing out. But think of how much more you'd be missing if this were permanent?
