bass is definately easier.. but you will get alot more out of guitar. i'm starting to play the guitar too.. i've heard that if you know how to play guitar.. you can pretty much play bass too

i was in a situation sord of like this. i bought a bass cuz me and my cuz and some friends were starting a band and they needed a bass player. so that became me. but then i got a guitar to builed up my calises and play faster. but then i enjiod playing guitar better. so now i have pretty much a whole band in my room, drums, bass, guitar, mic, and everything. but i think that bass would be best to begine with.

The two are totally different in how you approach playing them.

Guitar is about chords - you play a lot of strings all at once to get at the sound. It is very chord driven in approach to plaing.

Bass is all linear. It is about walking lines, about building a supporting foundation underneath the band. It can be played many different ways, from jazz walking bass lines to the pop and slap of funk.

I would not say that either one is easier than the other. If you dig through my column, you'll find I've addressed this issue more than once. ;)

Guitar would probably be the best to start with because no one remembers the bass player its always the guitar player everyone loves!!

Bass is much easier, but if you start with guitar and take lessons for a while then bass will be even easier.

WTF answered Saturday February 5 2005, 11:17 pm:
theyre basically both the same, either way, if you plan on playing both, it doesnt matter what you start with.

i prefer guitar though because you learn chords and not just notes and stuff like that

A bass is a guitar. I would say start out with an acoustic guitar. That is what I learned how to play a little on. good luck!
