I am the Turc, formally known as Kristin. I helped start this website, what seems like many years ago! Woo!

I'm a college sophomore, music ed major (all of the academics-relationship-extracurriculars-applying to college-switching your major-stuff), a musician, and a hardcore music fanatic. I am very quirky. I love Disney movies. I love giving advice. I also love reading, writing, movies, music, computers, piano, etc etc. I'm very honest, up front, and even blunt about some things. I'm pretty opinionated, but I know when to shut up. I like playing football and watching PSU football, as well as basketball, volleyball, and baseball in general. I know lots of stuff and like sharing my knowledge, and I tutor, so I'm all for the helping people with homework thing. :)

Go ahead and ask me questions... I'll do my best!

How do i know when i'm getting my period? i have hair in both places i get random cramps and i get that gross discharge o please help me!i'm 12 and i will be 13 in exactly 1 monthe i just want it to come to get it over and done with! (link)
I had that gross discharge for about a year before I got my period, but these things vary from person to person. You'll know when you have it because it will definitely be blood. The random cramp thing sounds like it should come soon. Load up on the pantiliners (the thin ones) to eliminate the discharge discomfort for now, but there's not really much else you can do except wait.

i really want these shoes that so cool and my mom wont get them for me how can i convince her to get them before monday april 13th 2004 (link)
Your mom could have plenty of reasons for not wanting to get you new shoes.

1) They cost a lot.
2) They don't fit you right, but you don't want to admit it because they're "cool".
3) You have lots of shoes.
4) You just got a new pair of shoes.
5) You don't really need a new pair of shoes.
6) They're really not that great and your mom doesn't want to buy them.

If you really want them, think of some ingenious way to earn the money. Also, April 13th is a Tuesday here in these United States.

My boyfriend and i have been together a long time now.(about a year and a half) I love him very very much, and i think our relationship has the makings of something that could last. we have never slept together bcuz i just dont feel comfortable and i want to remain a virgin hopefully till marriage or at least when im 21. the problem is, he is at college now and i'm still a senior in HS. His college is in a diff state. I know he loves me, but i cant help but worrying about him straying or cheating. am i wrong to feel like this? is it just a myth that all guys cheat on their girlfriends awhen then go 2 college? (link)
I have a friend in a similar situation, but I am bound to her to keep said situation to myself. So I will offer some generalized advice. Since she reads this column, she is not to take any of this advice directly to heart, because half of it doesn't pertain to her. :-P

Be wary, but not too smothering. Don't get extremely overprotective, because he probably still wants his independence. You are not wrong to worry about it- but if you trust him enough, it shouldn't be that huge of an issue. Not all guys cheat on their girlfriends when they go away to college, of course not! Girls are as apt to do the same thing. If you think your boyfriend is being faithful, great. If not, you have to ask him about it- don't confront him, but ease into it. I don't really have much experience on this kind of situation, but I wish you the best of luck, and I hope things go well for the two of you!

A guy I know asked me out a week ago, and I refused, nicely. I thought it was all over... Until his younger sister came up to me, and asked if it was true that I'm dating her brother. I told her that I wasn't, and I that I like someone else. She said that her brother told a bunch of people that we're dating! I didn't beleive it at first, but by the end of that day, 5 other people asked if it was true! He's spreading all these false lies about me, saying that we went to the movies & made out... Well, here's the scoop: I went to the movies, but not with him. I saw him there, and he sat behind me. I touched his arm when I was walking outta the theater, I never kissed him, let alone make out with him! What should I do? (link)
Confront him about it. Then kick him in the groin, cover him in kerosene, and set him on fire.

For real, it's time to quit being nice. This guy obviously didn't get the point. You have to wake him up if you want him to leave you alone.

XXX is definitely right. I am not going to voice my blatantly honest opinion on this other than that I think you are extremely gross, and if you keep this up, all you are going to amount to in life is an unwed mother who pops out kids. I can see it coming.

I am almost 13 years old and i havent started my period!! I know that you can get your period until the age of 16 or something like that but (i know this is a little freaky)what if you have hair down there? is that a sign? please help!
~help! (link)
Getting "hair down there" is merely a sign that you're hitting puberty, so you don't have long to wait. Once you start getting some underarm hair and pubic hair (technical term), your period will generally start anywhere between 6 months and a year after you've begun to develop. I got my first period when I was twelve, but I was always a lot bigger-boned and breasted than other girls my age. :-P Enjoy not having your period while it lasts, becuase it's a pain once it starts.

haha.....is humping wrong if your in a REALLY Godly relationship and your limit should be "kissing" ? (link)
Uhm, I would say YES.

i have blonde...little bit lower then shouldner length hair. its kinda shaped like a mullet. but cuter lol. and it goes diagnol from the bangs to behing my ear. anyways.. need a way to style it. and im not poor but my family is having a bit of money problems right now...where can i get cheap clothes that still look really "cool"? i wanna look good 4 my soon 2 be boyfriend and i really really need some new clothes lol. well, thanks 4 any help! bye! (link)
I have no idea what to do with your hair, but Target, Walmart, and Kmart usually supply trendy but cheap clothes. If all else fails, hit the local Salvy Army or Goodwill- the vintage look is in.

My little sister will be 20 next month. She currently has no plans for school, and has been unemployeed for 5 months. She is just in a slump, she sleeps all day and has no motivation. My parents are at the end of their rope. They want her to do something, but they don't want to just kick her out onto the street. How can we get her motivated? (link)
Tell her that she can't live with you anymore if she doesn't get her lazy butt up and do something, or restrict her "freedoms". As long as she's still in your house, they are only priveleges. My parents pull that one on me all the time. Not that I could get up and go anywhere, but it makes me more responsible.

Hey, I play the double bass, and I was wondering if anyone here knew where to get some good music scores from anime or other movies. I'd really appreciate it! Thanks! (link)
Try www.sheetmusicplus.com . I don't know how much music they have for double bass, but I always go there for music. Try typing "music scores anime movies double bass" into a search engine, entering as many particulars as you want... sites with more matching words found will show up. Good luck, and have fun! Yay for music people! :)

my son is 9 and we live in quite a rough area, hes always enjoyed playing outside with his friends until some of the older boys started jumping out on him and grabbing hold of him as they knew how upset he`d get, i had a word with these boys and they appologised and said they didnt realise they were getting to him as they did. however they still did it for the buzz of it and he`s terrified to go outside the door now, he doesnt play football or anything he loved doing and i really feel for him as i can see hes down about it, what do you think i should do? (link)
Speak to the older boys' parents, and if that doesn't work, notify the police. Bullying is unfair and scarring, and it does not have to continue.

I got a job at a pizza restaurant. I've worked for the same chain several years ago (a different location). I filled out the application online, made some nice customer comments about that particular location because it's my favorite place, and the owner called me last night! I was feeling really down when he called, so I look at this as a good sign, because it really made me feel better. This may sound totally lame or corny to you, but I'd much rather being doing something, even if it's just making pizzas, or taking orders for them, then sitting around at home being broke. I need to help out my family, but I also feel better about myself when I'm working, like I'm "contributing to society " by having a job. Ok, so I'm not curing cancer, but treating people nice can really make the difference in somebody's day, and I will be working with the public, which I know I can do. It's been a long time since I've worked a cash register, but it didn't look hard, I'm planning to stay there as long as I need to to save money and go back to school to finish my child development credits, but I didn't tell the boss that. I think I conviced this new boss that I can handle it, so why am I so nervous? Any suggestions? I start my training friday. (link)
I think you're excited, but your nerves are disguising this because you want to prove yourself so desperately. When you get something you want, you tend to grow nervous because you don't want it to go away.

I'm sure you'll do fine. Just keep your cool and remain confident. Nothin can go wrong with lots of patience and a cool head. :)

Good luck!

i'm 10 and just got pregnat. young?... i know! Should i tell my parents?

(link)
This is mad craziness. When I was ten, I had a vague idea of how babies were made, but I was not gutsy enough to ask anyone and I really didn't want to know. I thought the whole aspect of having sex was kinda gross, and sometimes I still do- which makes it perfectly clear that I am not mature enough for it yet. Which is fine.

But anyway.

Wow, you got yourself into a fine mess. I can only say that the best thing to do IS to tell your parents, because you will definitely need to be checked out by a doctor. Someone as young as you is probably not in the best condition physically to deliver a child, and while I do not advocate abortion just for the hell of it, having this baby might not be the best thing for you. Definitely let your parents know, and good luck to you.

Why is it that every time I talk to my mother on the phone she somehow steers the question towards the fact that I'm not married? I thought she was all proud of me for being a tough independent woman but that all flies out the window when the subject of love comes up. My boyfriend and I are in no hurry to get married, and this is like a personal insult to her or something. I don't get it. (link)
It's a mother thing. My mom always goes off on the "Nice Boy" tangent, even when we're talking about my high GPA, hard work, responsibility, etc etc.

If you learn how to block it out and not let it get to you, everything will be ok. If you want to find someone, you'll find them in time... don't make your mom rush you into anything.

at a school dance, i was a little depressed because i had just broken up with some jerk. my friend set me to slow dance with another guy, but it doesn't feel right. what is wrong? (link)
You're not over the other guy yet, and you are feeling rushed about the situation. Give it time, because moving on takes time and patience. Big hearts and lots of chocolate.

i apologize but, this might turn out to be a long one....i met this guy when i was in 7th grade and even before i saw him, i just fell "madly in love" with him and have liked him since that day, which has been 3 years now. i haven't really talked to him in forever and i don't understand why i still like him because i don't know him anymore (people change) but i just can't get over his eyes, smile, voice, laugh, talents; the him i knew then....sometimes, i just think i'm holding onto the image that i want him to be....i've liked other guys also but, i've never ceased liking him; i've always thought about him and hence the reason why i've never had a boyfriend. it's like, i can't find any guy better than him, or maybe i don't want to. it's a complicated feeling, lol....but what i'd like to have some advice on is if i should get over him (because i've never really tried) or if i should try to get to know him again. i know his phone number and his s/n but i don't want to be rude to call him and be like "hi! we haven't talked in forever so, update me on you," coming off about half stalker-ish. he's never called or IMed me so i feel like he doesn't want to know me so i don't want to annoy or bother him or waste his time (maybe he feels the same way though). i miss him so dearly but, does he miss me at all? if i were to ever see him again, i would tell him i honestly love him; going against any profession on "love" i've ever made and becoming my worst pet-peeve: a hypocrite. but, i'd do anything to tell him (link)
I'm going to take this in steps, so bear with me.

Do realize that people change over time. The person that you knew when you guys were closer might be no where near the person he is now. Believe me, ex-boyfriends of mine have changed so drastically in the past year that it is quite scary. If you are sure that you want to try and make something out of it, you could IM him and just be like, "Hey, we haven't talked for a while. How have you been?" Gradually initiate more conversations with him... if he keeps giving you all one word answers and the conversation dies you'll know it's time to move on. If he seems to have a genuine interest in reviving your friendship (which could turn into a relationship), then things could work out.

To seem not-stalkerish, don't IM him EVARY time you're both online... if you call, don't call too often. View your friendship as a ladder and work it up rung by rung. If you're too overwhelming, he'll get, well, overwhelmed, and then things will be bad for you both.

Best of luck with this situation... any update would be nice, I'd love to hear about how the people I give advice to are doing :) My email is iamtheturc@yahoo.com.

Is it possible to love a boy who failed kindergarden? I LOVE a boy who failed kindergaden. I just found out. He is soooo cute, though. He's my age and evything. I do't know what to do. it isn't that I don't like him and it isn't because I'm afraid my friends will tease me. I go out with him now. He moved and now he goes to my school again. The only problem is... when do I get to see him? PLEASE HELP! THANKS,
coolgirl57 (link)
It's possible that he didn't fail kindergarten, he could have just been held back for his age, attendance, or another untimely reason. People get held back in grade school for weird things, especially in the earlier years. If you like him so much, you shouldn't worry about what your friends think.

I was looking at some advice collumns, and i was wondering if you knew anything about hair color, since your hair looks like it is perfectly brushed. I want to dye my hair a dark red, my skin is sort of the same color as yours, would that look ok? I don't want to have the same aburn color that everyone has though. Please help! (link)
Thanks for the compliment! hah. :) I have a friend with skin a little lighter than mine and she has really gorgeous deep red hair. I think that on fair skin, dark red hair would look pretty good. I would never be brave enough to get rid of my blonde, though, hah. It's natural, but I have to rinse my roots because they get really dark. If you're going to do it yourself, make sure you pick a brand that won't react with your hair- some brands suggest dying it a certain color first so you don't end up with a too bright or brassy shade. I always use L'Oreal Open for my hair, because it is an all-over wash and it has easy instructions, and it has always come out really even. I would recommend getting it professionally done for the first time, and then you could do touch-ups on your own.

Send pictures if you get it done! :)
