Hi, I'm Sophie. Welcome to my advice column!
I know I'm only fourteen and you may think that I know practically nothing, but I've been through a lot for a fourteen-year-old and I've seen a lot of things that other fourteen-year-olds haven't.
I've been depressed before and I've been through stages of my life where I've had nobody to talk to and nobody to turn to. I know how tough it is, so I suppose that's why I signed up for this site.
I want to help others who aren't as fortunate as I am now.
I'll try and help with whatever I can. I'm just starting out on here but soon hopefully my personal page will be slightly nicer to look at and stuff.

I think it's great that you want to do that.
You might get a bit of stick from your peers, but you should ignore that and stick to your guns.
You're obviously very mature for your age and I'm sure that you'll find someone who can give you what you want :-)

im in the 6th grade and i cant shave my legs. i brought it up to my mom once and shesaid i didnt need to. but now my legs are really gross and im the ONLY one who doesnt shave. its really really embarassing, especially in gym and im the summertime. what should i do? (link)

Argh, I was in the same position!
I took my Mum's razor and shaved them myself, and she didn't notice. Although this should only be done as a LAST resort, if you get really desperate then that's what you should do too.
Firstly, I would tell your Mom that everyone else shaves and maybe you should say that there are some girls teasing you because of it. This will make her feel guilty (because no one wants their daughter to be bullied!) and then she should let you.
If this doesn't work, you could go and buy some hair-removing cream yourself. Cheap ones are only about $2 and they work pretty well.

I have liked this guy for ages over a year and nearly all my friends have dated him. I think one still likes him. I have a strict policy not to date guys my friends liked, have liked or have dated. So I ask should I ask him out or stick to my policy?? Ps I am no glamour model

That's a good policy to have, and it shows that you're loyal and all.
I think you should go for it, but if you want to stick to your policy then I'd ask he friend who you think still likes him if she does.
If she says yes, then you should probably leave it. If she says no, however, definitely fo for it! Then, if she's lying about not liking him, it's her problem.

I'm 13 years old and I have this friend named Allyson and an enemy named Roxy. Roxy has hurt both Allyson and mine's feelings and isnt a very..well...nice person but is extremely popular and draws much attention. Allyson tells me that she just wants to be my friend and that she doesnt like Roxy but whenever i see that roxy talks to allyson, allyson gets all happy and smiley. Later though, she denies to have done anything like that. Allyson has let me down before but promises to never do it again. Also, allyson talks to roxy's mom alot they have a good relationship and i think allyson tells her many thing...maybe too many..i dont know if to trust allyson again..i mean shes a great person/friend but...i dont know..if i should trust her again.

I think that because Roxy's so popular and everything, Allyson's probably scared of her. Although she probably DOESN'T like her, I think she could be scared of what Roxy will do if she's not nice to her.
I think you should trust her if she's a great person and friend because she probably needs you. But tell her how you feel and that it's annoying you.

If he doesn't still like her, then there's nothing that you can do about that.
He definitely likes you back if he invited you to his baseball game (yay!) so if I were you I'd follow your heart and go because you'll seriously regret it if you don't.
But make sure you do tell Taryn that you're going, otherwise she'll probably get upset.

My best friend Anna and I both like the same guy, Dan. We are both really good friends with him and he flirts with us and other girls a lot. The problem is that he told me that he didn't like Anna, and only wanted to be friends with her. Then he told me that he always is really good friends with girls and then they end up liking him.
I told Anna this and she is really upset and I'm not sure how I should do. I still really like Dan, but it sounds like he doesn't like me because of what he said about his friends falling for him. I was about to ask him out, but now I'm not sure if I should.
why do guys flirt with girls and expect that the girl will never like them? Shouldn't they know that the girl will end up liking him? (link)

Guys so suck like that. I think they like the attention or something, but I've been in the same position and it's VERY annoying!
I can understand why you like him, but he sounds like a bit of a player to me. If I were you, I'd wait for another few days or so before you decide if you're going to ask him out.
He might still like you and using what he said to cover it up. So don't give up hope yet.

What you have to remember, hun, is that you're you for a reason and deep down, would you change that??
Everyone has hard times in their lives, but try to remember that one day you'll see the sun again and stuff will cheer up for you.
For the moment, try to concentrate on what you're good at and, if possible, go out with your friends for a day.
Try to tell someone how you feel, too. A problem shared is a problem halved!
And also know that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

My best friend is really sweet, but isn't so popular with the boys. I happen to be (not to me boastful) Anyway, when ever I tell her about my boyfriend or that a boy told me he likes me, she says "at least that guy likes you" SO I can't talk to her about guys. I don't know what to do

Argh I actually have exactly the same problem.
The best thing to do is try a) not to flirt too much when boys are around and b) involve her in your conversations with them.
I know it's stupid, but it's probably best not to talk to her about guys to much-talk about her favourite things instead and things that you have in common together.

I think I have self-image problems. I hate my stomach. I'm always worried it is preventing me from finding a boyfriend. I know people sometimes comment about my weight behind my back. In school when we had our physicals I felt extremely self-consious because the nurse put the chart down and a few people could see my weight (I'm not sure they care though). I just don't want to hurt myself. I've thought about nt eating and becoming aneroxic and when I did I honestly didn't care what it would do to my body as long as my stomach look thinner. I do exercise usually but I never see results. I just want to know how I can have a better self-image. Any help? (link)

The best way for a thinner stomach is sit-ups and crunches, but I don't think that's the only problem here.
To me, you sound a bit insecure. Everyone thinks that they're really big and that people are always staring at them, but in reality, they aren't. They're too busy worrying about their own problems and what's wrong with their body image.
And I bet you aren't as big as you think ;-)

No. Usually when a guy says "I don't know" it actually means yes! I know that sounds stupid, but if a guy doesn't like you he always seems to say so...

There is this kid at school that I have known for about 3 years. He constantly bugs me and acts like he is flirting with me. We are both in this show at school and I was dancing for my part in the show and he screamed Work it girl! I know he was talking to me but I dont know if he meant anything my it. Yeah, it sounds as though the guy does like you.
I've been in this situation before, and there's two ways to go about it:
I was super-mean to him and more or less completely ignored him. It worked, but he didn't talk to me for a month and I felt really mean. But now it's fine so if you're brutal then that's the way to go.
The second is to tell him that you don't like him flirting with you and you like him as a friend but nothing more. This way he will DEFINITELY get the idea.

I'm a thirteen year old female. Recently Iv'e started eating super healthy. When I'm at home eating the food there, or eating foods with nutrition information I'm fine, but whenever I eat at someone else's house or eat out and the food served looks fattening or sugary I panic. I don't know whats in it and so on. Sometimes I make up excuses for not eating things. My friends jokingly said I was anorexic before. That didn't bother me. However, now they have started to say it seriously and my own mum said I was eating in an anorexic way. I know people suffering from anorexia have poor self image, but I think I am at a perfect weight. Please tell me if I am anorexic or not. Honestly. (link)

No, I don't think that you are. You don't sound like you have anorexia symtoms, anyway.
I think that you might be a little obsessed with what you eat, and that's OK, but try and be a little LESS obsessive if that's possible.
If you think that you are a perfect size and you are eating healthily (and not skipping meals) then what you're doing is actually admirable.

This probably isn't the right thing to say, but I think you should tell your mom that you are going out with a friend or something and then make a private appointment at your doctors.
However, your Mom should really know about it. But if you really don't want to tell her go ahead with what I said above. It's better to be on the pill and for her not to know about it than to not be and end up pregnant or something.

I was in the same position and it's tough.
Tell your friend how you feel. If she doesn't accept it then you have to work out who's the most important to you-your friend or your guy.
I know the sayong says, "Boyfriends come and go but friends last forever" and all of that, but if a friend is being a bitch about it (and you've tried being nice) then it's probably best to go with the guy. If thw friend is really important to you, go with her.
Another strategy is to try and talk to him when she's not around.

There's nothing (as far as I'm aware) that can give you a permanant fast metabalism, but apparently the best way is to exercise every morning, before you go to work, school, etc.
This was your metabolism (sorry I don't know how to spell it!) speeds up early in the morning and therefore burns food faster during the day.
Swimming is supposed to be especially good.

Thy'll usually stare at you a lot, and smile quite a lot, and also drop you some (subtle) compliments. It usually depends on the guy, but those three are usually common with all.
They usually always remember the conversations you've had and know more about you than you knew.

Is Codeine bad for you if you take it when you don't need it, like if you take it just to get high or whatever? If it is bad, what does it do specifically that is harmful? (link)

Yeah, it is. It damages your brain, apparently, and has something similar that's in tipp-ex and glue.
Once or twice it'll make no difference at all, but please make sure you don't do it excessively!
