You should see a doctor about this, even if you don't have medical insurance, go the emergency room (they take all cases, regardless). What you described seems to be "cluster headaches," I found a medical forum online with a posting about that. The symptoms are the same, and could be caused by a number of things..one woman said she experienced them after a series of car accidents. Also, this could be a bad case of a migraine. Anyway, nobody can tell you for sure what you are experiencing, so you really should go to the emergency room and ask to speak to a doctor. They will most likely take an MRI, and may refer you to a Neurologist if needed. Since this has been going on for an extended period of time, and no treatment has helped, go seek medical help right away. It is not at all worth the risk of wondering. There are also options out there, like Medicare. All doctors can advise you about insurance issues, but that's the last thing to think about. Your health is the most important thing. If you are not feeling better within the next week, maybe you should postpone the wedding.

I think the best way to say that is:
Quedarás conmigo por siempre? (will you stay with me forever?). I guess you could say quedaras a mi lado por siempre... but anyway, the best way to put it is to say quedaras conmigo.
Often times when you directly translate from Spanish to English (or vice-versa), it doesn't sound quite right, or even make sense. So saying "by my side" word for word, might not even have the same meaning or make much sense. I think the best way to express what you wanted to say is (I think) to simply say, ¿Quedarás conmigo por siempre?.
Note: congmigo, which means with me, is both masculine and feminine, although it ends in "o." (which is typically associated with masculine nouns). In this case, it's an exception to the general rule.
Also, I would not recommend using online translations like altavista, as they often translate in the wrong way, word for word, rather than actually trying to adapt a particular phrase to the grammar and wording of the language in question.

Q: I am a 16 year old junior in high school who is studying French. I would like to do something like study abroad in Quebec, but not for very long, just 2 or 3 weeks. I was also wondering if it was possible to not take the classes, just stay with a host family and learn culture and see what daily life is like.
Even if you find something that doesn't go with everything I want, please let me know. I am open to all your ideas. Thank you!

If you are interested in taking French language and culture courses, I would recommend taking part in an intensive language course- most, if not all, programs will find a host family for you. I did the same thing five years ago, although I did not stay with a host family...I studied Spanish language in Spain for two months, and had the option of staying with a family, though I chose to live with students instead.
Here is a program I found in Montreal, which offers language courses, usually between fours weeks to several months.
http://www.learnfrench.ca/french-language-program-courses.aspx
...at the top of the website, you can click on the link, "homestay," to get more information on that.
I'm not sure if you can stay with a family for such a short period of time.. you could do an "au pair," where you are hired to babysit children in exchange for housing, but that usually requires a long term commitment (around one year). I'm not sure about options of staying with a host family for less than one or two months...
but if you are interested in taking language and culture courses (which I highly recommend), there are plenty of programs. You can google, "French language programs, Quebec," and you'll get a lot of results. Montreal is a beautiful city, with lots to do, but if you'd like, there are also other places in Quebec you can study in.
Hope I helped!

Q: How can you tell if a cut is turned into a scar or if it's a cut and still healing but very slowly?
And how can you tell if your acne/pimple is scarred now?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
If a cut is still healing-as the columnist below explained- there will be a scab, which will go away once the cut heals. Or the wound will gradually close, and you can tell it's healing if it is no longer open or red. If this results in a scar (particularly if you picked at a scab or interfered with the healing process), then there will be an almost skin-colored mark (a little bit lighter than your own skin), where the cut once was. Most scars lighten overtime, but if you have a particularly deep cut, usually as a result of an accident or surgery, then there are creams you can use to lighten the scar overtime.
Regarding the acne..you can tell if a pimple has scarred, if you see a minor discoloration (mark) in that area- this is called hyperpigmentation. It almost looks like a sun-spot or freckle, and is darker with darker skin tones (usually a pinkish/brownish color). If you have deeper acne that scars, it can be almost like a chicken-pox scar- and appear to be holes in the skin. Again, there is treatment for acne scars or hyperpigmentation, which ranges from basic skincare treatment (like Neutrogena acne scar treatment) to pricier microdermabrasion (sp?).
Here's a link with information on acne scars and treatment:

Q: I'm not sure if this is in the right category.
I have this infected toe. Whenever I touch it it hurts. My mom set an appointment to get it removed....the toenail. Now I'm scared! I've been through this already once and it didn't go well. I screamed and shouted rejecting that I didn't want the two shots(I hate needles!) It's humiliating but I don't know if I can control it. What could I think in my mind while hugging my mom totally distract me from the shots? Please hurry!!!It's next week!!

Follow what the person below said...especially about not looking at the needle. Also, if it's possible, request that the doctor gives you a mild sedative to calm you down before the shots. You might want to call the office in advance to make sure. Just relax, do not look or think of the needle. They are giving you shots for a reason. If you want, you could hold someone's hand to calm you down as well.
Also, try not to think about it so much. Just go in, take a deep breath, and let the doctor/nurses do what they have to do. Hope it goes well for you!

Q: I want to wear a tampon so much but it hurts just when I push it up a little bit. I tried a smaller size, vasaline, everything. I just want to know if there's anything else I can do(besides sex) to make it fit?

Try using plastic applicator tampons, like Playtex Gentle Glide. They are easier for beginners (like yourself) to insert. Don't worry, you will start getting the hang of it. Also, relax when you start inserting a tampon...especially keep your muscles relaxed. If they're tense, it will be more difficult for you to use a tampon. Just be patient, that's my advice to you. I used to have trouble too when I first started, but once you relax and switch to a comfortable tampon, you will be fine. Oh, and don't use vaseline...it's oil based, so it is not really lubricating (it might actually make it worse).

First off, GO get tested RIGHT AWAY...you could be pregnant. Others have said the same thing, and I'll repeat it again. You are very, very young..too young to be doing these things. Obviously dear, sorry to say this, you aren't mature enough to deal with these situations. Why do you get yourself in them in the first place? Well, now that all is said and done, just go to a clinic or wherever, and get a pregnancy test. Go in a couple days or so, and you'll get accurate results. Better yet, please, for YOUR sake, go talk to a school nurse. They will not judge you at all. They will give you guidance and let you know what you should do next (and maybe give you a pregnancy test). I don't know how old your boyfriend is, or who he has been with, but regardless, get tested for other things (STD's, if you know what those are) as well.
Your boyfriend sounds young too,(otherwise, why would he be with a 13 year old), so he probably doesn't know how to deal either. I am not so naive as to think you are not going to have sex. Next time, use a condom! Never, ever have sex without one. Also, rethink what you are doing. You are so young, you can wait off doing these things for a while, believe me. If you do not want to listen to me, or anyone else, at the very least, go talk to your school nurse for one thing, and always, always use protection.

I also agree, seeing a dermatologist is the best way to find out what types of products you should use for your skin type. Other than that, I would recommend using something very mild, like Cetaphil. They have a facial cleanser in a gentle formula.. I'm not sure about Clinique, but I've used their samples and they tend to dry out my skin (especially the facial bar), but again, I'm sure they also carry products for sensitive skin like yours. You should stray away from products that have harsh ingredients, or fragrances. Definitely see a dermatologist for suggestions, and when you do try something new, use it for a while and see how your skin reacts.

Listen, I know the temptation is there...and you've already got a ton of answers for this question. But do not use your mom's vibrator. The fact that you are even having doubts means you know it's wrong. Just put it back and don't use it, period. Be strong and don't give in- it is very personal..it's not like you're borrowing lipstick or a shirt from her. It's a VIBRATOR. Anyway, like one of the others had said, how would you feel if she did the same to you? You'd cringe. If you really want to use a vibrator, get your own. If that's not an option, there are always other things you could try out. But seriously, your mom's vibrator should not be one of them.

Q: I have this boyfriend. And we always talk and stufff. But today he just walk pass me and didnt say nothing. So what do you think i should do. Also WHen we get into a fight we call each names. And after he gave me money and wants sexy from me.

This doesn't sound like a healthy relationship at all. The fact that he gives you money after a fight, and wants sex, is an obvious sign that he is using you. He thinks that the money will make you happy, which may lead you to consent to having sex with him. To put it bluntly, he is using you for sex.
Another bad sign is that he walked past you without saying anything. If he did in fact see you, he should have acknowledged your presence. It isn't good either that you two call each other names when you fight. There shouldn't be a reason to fight a lot in the first place, and the fact that you two insult each other like that is not a good sign.
What you do about it is up to you. But don't let him think that he can get away with everything. It's obvious that you are upset about him using you for sex, and insulting you...and ignoring you to top it off. He is not being respectful, and I think you should let him know that the next time you talk to him. Just let him know exactly how you feel, but try not to be angry or yell, since then he won't listen. And to be honest with you, he sounds immature and disrespectful. You can do better than that. I'm not in your shoes, but what I can tell you is that you should at least step back and think about all this. If he consistently demeans and disrespects you, then he really is not at all worth your time.
:EDIT: Listen, just dump him. He is objectifying you and using you for sex. Point blank, dump him now and move on.

Q: I am the world's worst procrastinator. I'm really smart and I love to take care of people, but when I have to go out and get something done, I put it off and off and off. Like I just tell myself that I'll do it later and later and I always wind up getting things done quickly (though efficiently) at the last minute. I mean, it's not like my put-off project is a failure, it's actually very good in the end, but I have this tremendous stress on my shoulders from all the stuff I just take my sweet time to get around to doing. Any help please?

I am also a HUGE procrastinator. I think the main reason people put things off is that they feel there's always enough time...but when time starts running out, people tend to panic and do things at the last minute. I always tell myself that there's a reason we're given an ample amount of time to get a task done, whether it's a paper, exam, project, or whatever: we're given time in advance, so we can get things done correctly. For instance, professors (or teachers) assign papers a month before the due date, so you have time to do research, figure out what you want to write, organize...and on and on. If you really only needed a few days to write a really good term paper, you'd only be assigned a week, max. to do it. But anyway, the minute you think, " oh, I have enough time, I can get it done later," you are automatically setting yourself up on the wrong track. I know this from lots and lots of experience. Sometimes what it takes is ACTION to get things done. Don't just think about doing something, just go ahead and do it. You have to discipline yourself, and as the previous columnist said, really force yourself to do something. That might mean reminding yourself that you've wasted enough time, and now you have to really start getting the task done. If you're putting off schoolwork, just go to the library or a quiet place, and make sure you have no distractions. Just do what it takes to get the work done. And also, think about how nice it'll be once you finish what you have to do...and you know, to get there, you have to really put in some effort. You can set a schedule for yourself...make a list of all the things you have to do for the day (but don't overwhelm yourself), and cross off one by one, the tasks you've completed. Next time, try planning ahead. When you know you have to do something, really force yourself to get it done. Only think positive thoughts like "I can do this," or "I have to get this done now, not later." Keep yourself motivated, and you'll be surprised what you are capable of.

Q: After a pimple has been popped and the next day it is just a red tiny bump what is best to use on it, particularly to get the redness away so it fades back to normal color

Although it might be hard, the best thing is to stop touching the pimple-it'll heal on its own that way. If you keep touching a pimple that has been popped, new bacteria will be introduced into the area (which is still healing), and can irritate the area or even lead to another pimple. As the previous columnist said, visine might help reduce redness... I have read that in a magazine once. You can also put tea tree oil on it..it is a natural antiseptic, so it'll keep the area free from bacteria, and will speed up healing/drying. Also, I have this mask, "Queen Helene, Mint Julep mask," which smells like spearmint- I use it about twice a week, and it helps dry up pimples and blackheads. If you can get that, or another mud mask, you can put it on the red bump, and you should see improvement- if you do use a mask, try it regularly as a spot treatment. When I get a pimple, I put mask on it and it helps it mature and heal faster.
It will take a few days for the redness to go away completely, and you might have a scar (hyper-pigmentation) for a while. Although it's hard at times, try not to pop your pimples, and let them heal naturally on their own. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, like Neutrogena or Cetaphil, and tone/moisturize as usual. I like to use witch hazel formula astringent (all natural), which is around $4 at the drugstore. I also try using a mud mask regularly, around 2-3 times a week, that keeps my skin looking and feeling healthier.

Q: Okay, I just don't understand this emo/goth trend. So I have some questions:
1. How come all emo kids say how unique and individual they are, but they all dress the same and look the same?
2. They say that labels are bad, but some go parading around their weirdness (AKA emo-ness). How is that supposed to work?
3. If you're kid was emo and stuff, would you cry? I know I certainly would. (This is the poll question.)
4. How did emo-ness come to be? I thought this world was supposed to be a happy place. Why do they insist on draping dark hair over their faces and obscuring their eyes with black liner if the world is such a sunny beautiful place?
Any help to eliminate these people *cough* I mean help me understand this clique is appreciated.

I sometimes wonder the same things. I completely respect people who wear certain things, or are into a certain scene...but only if they do it for themselves, and not to make a statement or stand apart from everyone else. In my eyes, that would also be following a trend (the thing they're supposedly against).
So, to give you my take on your questions:
1) I think the whole point of people following the gothic or emo trend is to go against the mainstream, and be individual, whether it is through wearing dark clothing, or listening to a certain type of music, or whatever. But when you have a whole group of people dressing the same, and following the same ideals of being unique and individual, then they are, by definition, following a trend. It's just a different trend (in this case, going against the mainstream). To me, a trend is a trend.
2) I guess this ties into number 1. I wouldn't call these people weird. They are trying to be different. I think that really, it's about making a statement, " I am unique/belong to my own crowd." You know what, they are so against cliques, and yet they are by default forming their own clique. I don't know if that answers your questions.
3) I wouldn't cry if my kid were emo. Kids follow certain fads or trends, and have so many phases, especially during the teen years...so anyway, even if it weren't a passing phase, you should be accepting of your child no matter what. Dressing a certain way certainly does not define who a person is inside.
4) The fact that many dress that way doesn't mean that they find the world to be a sad place. That's just how some people like to dress..but I guess some people take it to the extreme, and say it completely sucks, rather than finding a balance.
I guess to sum it up, just as wearing designer clothing and carrying the latest cell phone is a trend, so is being goth or emo. The only thing is that both trends are on opposite sides of the spectrum.
Anyway, a lot of people go through phases/cliques...their clique is to pretend that they don't belong to one.. To pretend that they do not follow any fashion or anything...well, you know what, dark clothing is a fashion. Dressing and acting that way is also a clique, even if it does not follow the conventional stereotype of a school clique.

I know how you feel. Sometimes you don't have anything to say, and feel obliged to say something, ANYTHING, so you end up saying irrelevant things. I get caught in these situations too sometimes. For starters, don't beat yourself up. The more self-conscious you are about it, the more tense you become. In that case, it will be very hard to carry on a conversation. The best thing you can do is relax and be yourself. You don't have to comment on each and every thing you hear, but when you have something to say, speak up.
I know what you mean about two other people talking and you feeling left out. Sometimes when two other people "click," or have a lot to say, the third person feels almost like the third wheel. In these situations, try to follow along with what the others are talking about, and join the conversation. But do not feel obligated to say something, cause then you will become self-conscious and will not know what to say (almost like being nervous for a job interview). It might sound easier than it really is, but being yourself is the key. Also, don't feel like your comments and opinions are useless and dumb- it may all be in your head.
Also, when you are talking to someone, focus only on what he or she is saying. Don't dwell on what your next comment will be, what you will say next. Communication is two-way. So in order to be a good speaker, you have to also be a good listener. When someone is talking, listen to what they say. Don't just think about what you should say next...if you listen and don't ignore the other person, you will be a lot more likely to have something to say to them, and to carry on the conversation.

You should talk to your dentist about it to see what stage of gingivitis you might have. If needed, he/she can prescribe "Peridex" mouth rinse, which is formulated to treat gingivitis.
Make sure to gently but thoroughly brush your teeth twice a day, making sure to brush your back teeth too. Do not brush harshly, as that can irritate your gums and lead to other problems. Also, floss your teeth (about 5-6 times up/down between each tooth) at least once a day, before bed. You can use floss threaders (available at drugstores)to easily floss, since you have braces. I would recommend also using ACT mouthwash, as it has a lower alcohol content than Listerine, but is also very effective. My mom's a dentist and she recommends using ACT for this reason.
If you maintain good oral hygiene, which includes flossing (very important), your gums will start getting better.

Q: Why do girls wear tops to flaunt their cleavage?

Not all girls are comfortable wearing tops that show cleavage, but some girls do it for a number of reasons.
a) they think it's flattering
b) they want to show off their cleavage (usually to the guys)
c)they want to get noticed (this ties into both points above).
I feel that sometimes it's okay to show a little cleavage (particularly if that's the cut of the shirt or top) , but not to overdo it. But then again, everyone is different. I do get the feeling though, that girls who try flaunting their breasts (overdoing it) or any other part of their bodies for that matter, are only looking for attention (and that usually stems from insecurity). Although sometimes it's okay to show a little cleavage, I feel that it's really too much to flaunt it. I'm more of the "leave a bit to the imagination," rather than "if you've got it flaunt it," type, so I guess that's just my bias.

The holidays are perfect for desserts. You actually do not even really need to prepare anything from scratch. You can get ready made cookie dough (sugar cookies) at the supermarket and decorate the cookies with whatever you want- candies, frosting, etc., or you can even get cookie dough that has christmas patters on it. If you are in the baking mood, you can make sugar cookies and use cookie cutters.
Or, you can make cupcakes or brownies, either from scratch or from the box, and decorate with white frosting, and red and green sprinkles...or anything festive, like mini candy canes, crushed peppermints, or little sugary cake decorations (they come in the baking aisle, usually for birthdays, but I'm sure they also have holiday themes as well).
Umm...people don't usually like fruitcake so much, so your best bet is to make cookies or brownies.

I agree with the previous answer. We have all heard the saying, "it's the thought that counts," and it is absolutely true. That is a thoughtful gift; pictures really bring back memories. Really, the idea of having to get someone a big, expensive gift for Christmas is really unfair. Nothing is too little, but lots of things are too big or too much. A gift from the heart means more than anything else. Even if you were to make her something, or take her somewhere (instead of buying something), or anything really, it would still be fine, since you are her friend...it's the friendship that counts, not the gift. So what you got her is fine.

I am here to give honest advice, when I feel I have something to contribute. I try to be as empathetic and understanding as I can, as I know that the way something is said is as important as the message itself.
I usually advise on love/relationships, friendship and family issues, nutrition, and health (mental and physical). If I feel I can help out, there's not a whole lot I am unwilling to answer. Ask away!
