Question Posted Saturday December 15 2007, 10:53 am
I'm not sure if this is in the right category.
I have this infected toe. Whenever I touch it it hurts. My mom set an appointment to get it removed....the toenail. Now I'm scared! I've been through this already once and it didn't go well. I screamed and shouted rejecting that I didn't want the two shots(I hate needles!) It's humiliating but I don't know if I can control it. What could I think in my mind while hugging my mom totally distract me from the shots? Please hurry!!!It's next week!!

Also, if it's possible, request that the doctor gives you a mild sedative to calm you down before the shots. You might want to call the office in advance to make sure. Just relax, do not look or think of the needle. They are giving you shots for a reason. If you want, you could hold someone's hand to calm you down as well.
Also, try not to think about it so much. Just go in, take a deep breath, and let the doctor/nurses do what they have to do. Hope it goes well for you! [ ciao77's advice column | Ask ciao77 A Question ]
thelaura answered Saturday December 15 2007, 6:15 pm: Lots of people are afraid of needles.
It's really nothing to worry about though. Here's a few tips to help you with that part:
*Tell the doctor you are afraid of needles. He/she will reassure you everything is going to be fine and help you to relax.
*Try not to think about it. Remember good memories.
*Do not watch as the needle goes in.
*Remember, the needles are going to help you, so it's best you have them done.
*Breathe. Relax. Keep still.
*Maybe even have someone talk to you and keep the conversation flowing.
It will all be over before you know it.
The quicker you have it done, the quicker your toe will heal.
Don't worry. You're going to be fine. [ thelaura's advice column | Ask thelaura A Question ]
