I'm in an advanced Chior group. We are going to sing at some fancy restaurant. We get to choose what song we want to sing, because were doing solos, duets, trios, and quartets. I have a group to sing with and we all want to do this so we need to get an anser before all the slots get filled up. Does anybody have any good songs to sing there? We need something ispirational that everyone would enjoy. Please help. I am so desperate I will rate EVERYONE who ANSWERS THE QUESTION with a 5.

Quartets:

"The Prayer" by Charlotte Church (requires an additional soloist)

"Seasons of Love" from "Rent" in 4-part harmony

"Sweet Dreams" by Annie Lennox

Trios:

"For Good" from "Wicked" in 3-part harmony. It's supposed to be sung by two people, but you can get it in 3-part choral music.

"The Chorus of Witches" from the Opera "Macbeth" by Verdi (I know it sounds geeky, but honestly, it's really easy and sounds great)

"Give Us Hope" from "Sounds of a Better World."
The organization is really corny, but the songs are pretty cool. You can get the music at soundsofabetterworld.org or the CD at any music store.

"Dancing Queen" in 3-part. Awesome song.

Duets:

"For Good" from "Wicked."

"Defying Gravity" from "Wicked"

Solos:

"Un Moto Di Gioia" from The Marriage of Figaro. Sweet, pretty and very easy.

"Wishing you were somehow here again" from "Phantom of the Opera"

"Buenos Aires" from Evita

ok i totally like this guy and no i no for a fact that he doesnt like me the way i like him but i can NOT stop thinking about him what do i do because it's driving me crazy!! please help me thanks

Actually, I think you can still like him, but don't push it beyond a friendship. If you push it, then he'll avoid you because he doesn't like you "that way." And don't act all dramatic and/or show that your feelings were hurt, because he'll resent the pressure it puts on him. Plus, you look helpless which is a Minus. The reason why you don't have to give up on him yet is because you can't predict the future. Who knows, maybe one day he'll suddenly see you as a great girlfriend, and you've given up on him? But then again, he might never like you. Then, I guess you'll just have to accept the fact that it wasn't meant to be. Just don't get your hopes up and stay open-minded. In the meantime, try and befriend him in some way. Relationships often start out as friendships.

is speed a drug?
what do you know about it?

Speed absolutely counts as a drug. Speed is methanphetamine, which is one of the worst drugs. It's up there with crack, cocaine, and heroin (just so you know, pot is a gateway drug. You can only be mentally addicted to pot; nobody suffers greatly during withdrawal). Don't ever take it! It can wreck and shorten your life. Being depressed is no excuse to go on meth. If you feel pressure from your "friends," remember that people who try to get you to do such a terrible thing are not worthy of your friendship. Especially considering the fact that you're only a teenager (at least I'm assuming that you're a teenager). These reasons (peer pressure, depression, etc) will not be important 20 years from now. Having to go to re-hab and destroying your body with drugs will. If you are depressed, go to a psychiatrist, get some prescriptions for anti-depressants and deal with in a healthy way. In the long term, it can cause severe liver, kidney, brain and lung damage. An overdose can give you heart failure.

How can you tell if a girl likes you{dont say flirting}? How can you tell if a girl knows that you like her? Does anyone know any advice on girls that is hard to learn on your own or that no onr told you and you figured out yourself.
Thanks in advance.

I rate high.

--Caden--

Each girl has her own different way of showing. From what I've observed from my friends, here are some ways. Girls may:

1. flirt like crazy.
2. avoid you.
3. give you a little more attention than the rest of the boys,
4. not make eye contact when talking.
5. act like a complete bitch. Be aware of this because it's "hard to learn on your own"
6. never blame you for anything
7. be really shy (unless she's shy with everyone)

Here are some more that I pulled off of Google:

She gazes in your eyes with deep interest and her pupils are dilated.

Her skin tone becomes red while being around you.

Her crossed leg is pointed towards you or if that same leg is rocking back and forth towards you.

She raises or lowers the volume of her voice to match yours.

She rubs her chin or touches her cheek. This indicates that she's thinking about you and her relating in some way...

She winks at you while talking to you or winks at you from a distance.

She exposes the palms of her hand facing you.

Biting of the lips or showing of the tongue, licking her lips or touching of her front teeth....

She starts sitting straight up and her muscles appear to be firm.

She puts her fingernail between her teeth.

She laughs in unison with you.

She touches your arm, shoulder, thigh, or hand while talking to you.

Plays with her jewelry, especially with stroking and pulling motions.

She twirls her hair around her fingers while she is looking at you.

Eyebrows raised and then lowered, then a smile usually indicates interest in you.

While talking to you, she rest an elbow in the palm of one hand, while holding out her other hand, palm up.

In a crowd she speaks only to you and focuses all of her undivided attention on you.

While talking to you, she blinks more than usual, fluttering her eyelashes.

Big smiles with upper and lower teeth showing with a relaxed face.

She speeds up or slows down her speaking to match yours.

She rubs her wrists up and down.

I get the impression that she knows you like her if it just gives off those vibes, you know? It's really hard to explain, but you just...know it. I know that wasn't too helpful, but it's the best I can do :[

Good luck with who ever it is! Drop a word in my inbox or AIM me at EvaPeronFreak256 if you'd like to talk!

Does the book...A Midsummer Night's Dream have a hero's journey to it? You know... The call, the threshold, the threshold guardians..? Because I'm not sure what's going on in the book because my vocabulary sucks..

No, a Midsummer Night's Dream does not have the Hero's Journey to it. There's no one hero, and each character has his/her own little story to it. If you're having trouble with the book, get the SparkNote book! It has the actual play on one side, and a translated version on the other side. It's really good. Here's a site on a Midsummer Night's dream:

this question is for girls who are in cheerleading, good in science, Plays the viola, is outgoing, and has a reputation for being nice.

The reason for so many details is because i have a crush on a girl who is all this and i wanna know what you see in a perfect guy and if someone had a crush on you, would you avoid them or how would you respod when you wer 11 or 12 {thats the age of the girl, not me, Im thirteen so im legal}? Another reason for the detasils is i believe there are steriotypes.

I'm 16, but I have a good idea what 11-and-12-year-old girls want, mainly because I was 11 at one time and I have a 13-year-old sister. Just because a girl cheerleads, plays the viola, is good at science, etc. doesn't mean that her taste in guys differs from any other girl. Most girls that age would probably say "0h I want a guy who treats me well blah blah blah" to sound deep, but actually, the guy that attracts the attention is almost always g0nna be h0t and popular (the more unattainable, the better). He has to be not nerdy and geeky, because she's afraid she'll look nerdy and geeky as well. Give them about 3 more years they'll start looking beyond shallow qualities. Of course, there are always exceptions, but don't count on it.

How would she respond if a guy had a crush on her? It depends on the maturity level. Maybe her hormones haven't kicked in yet and she isn't really ready for guys. But most girls usually have gotten past that by 11 or 12. If you're popular and/or alright-looking and at least had a decent social reputation, she most likely wouldn't react really bad.

is it wrong to think that u'r friends brother is good looking??????????????????????????

No, it's not wrong at all! Lots of girls go out with their friend's brothers. However, I don't recommend telling your friend that you think her brother is goodlooking. She might think it's kind of weird, after all, it's her brother. Don't worry. It's perfectly normal :)

Hi . For spainish i have to make a visual-poster for the day of the dead. I have NO IDEA what to do. It has to look mexican .. im planning on using either white or black psterboard. Any ides what to put on it ? Something easy and inexpensive .. its due tomorrow ( no im not a procrastinator i just got it friday and i was gone all yesterday and friday night ! ) At the top il prbly put dia de los muertos in red letters .. and i have to write a paragrph describing the difference between halloween and day of the dead .. but im not worried about that . I think theres something with a bride and groom skeletons right ? so maybe i can draw them or something ? PLEASE give me some ideas !! thanks !

I'm actually Argentine instead of Mexican, but we have family members in Mexico. Definitely use black posterboard, because Dia de los Muertos honors the dead. Yeah, often times there are bride and groom skeletons, but they don't necessarily have to be bride and groom. They would make nice decorations. If you don't like drawing, you can print pictures from the Internet. Here are some to start with:

http://www.mexconnect.com/mex_/feature/muertos/dmskelfrogc.jpg
http://www.azcentral.com/ent/dead/images/lacatrina.jpg
http://www.pasioncondal.com/hallo2003/nwih/images/collage-copy_02mo.jpg

You should also get pictures of like the food and activities from a book or the Internet. But whatever you do, you HAVE to get pictures of the sweets. During Dia de Los Muertos, Mexicans totally go to town on sugar. Here are some more pics:

http://www.mexicanmercados.com/food/calaver2.jpg (the sugar skulls)

http://www.clta.net/lessons/spanish/level4/altar14.jpg

To make everything look more Mexican, get some brightly colored crepe paper, and cut slits in the side to make fringe. Then glue it on the edges of the posterboard and on the edges of the pictures. It would look nice!

Hope this was helpful! Good luck with your project! If you need more help, you can drop a word in my inbox.

I have questions about Congenital heart defects
Like how does it affects a child physically and mentally? And how is detected?

I pulled this off of Google:

How do heart defects affect a child?

Some babies and children with heart defects experience no symptoms. The heart defect may be diagnosed if the doctor hears an abnormal sound, referred to as a murmur. Children with normal hearts also can have heart murmurs. These are called "innocent" or "functional" murmurs. A physician may suggest tests to rule out a heart defect.

Certain heart defects prevent the heart from pumping adequate blood to the lungs or other parts of the body. This can cause congestive heart failure. An affected child may experience a rapid heartbeat and breathing difficulties, especially during exercise (or in infants, during feeding—sometimes resulting in inadequate weight gain). Swelling of the legs or abdomen or around the eyes also may occur.

Some heart defects result in a pale grayish or bluish coloring of the skin (called cyanosis), usually appearing soon after birth or during infancy. On occasion, it may be delayed until later in childhood. It is a sign of defects that prevent the blood from getting enough oxygen. Children with cyanosis may tire easily. Symptoms such as shortness of breath and fainting often worsen when the child exerts himself. Some youngsters may squat frequently to ease their shortness of breath.

What causes congenital heart defects?

In most cases, scientists do not know what makes a baby's heart develop abnormally. Both genetic and environmental factors appear to play roles.

Among the few environmental factors known to contribute to congenital heart defects are a virus and certain drugs. Women who contract rubella (German measles) during the first three months of pregnancy have a high risk of having a baby with a heart defect. Other viral infections also may contribute.

Certain medications also increase the risk. These include the acne medication Accutane, lithium (used to treat certain forms of mental illness) and, possibly, certain anti-seizure medications. Drinking alcohol in pregnancy also can increase the risk of heart defects—babies with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) often have them. Studies also suggest that use of cocaine in pregnancy increases the risk of these birth defects.

Certain chronic illnesses in the mother also can increase the risk of heart defects. For example, women with diabetes are at increased risk of having a baby with a heart defect, although this risk can be reduced or eliminated if the diabetes is closely controlled, starting before pregnancy. Women with an inborn error of body chemistry called phenylketonuria (PKU) also are at high risk of having a baby with a heart defect, unless they follow a special diet before pregnancy and during the first trimester. Several studies suggest that women who do not consume enough of the B vitamin folic acid before and during the early weeks of pregnancy are at increased risk of having a baby with a heart defect.

While most families have no more than one child with a heart defect, these malformations are more likely to occur in siblings or offspring of people who have heart defects than in unaffected families. This fact has long suggested that genetics plays a role in heart defects, at least in those families. In fact, scientists have recently discovered more than 100 mutations (changes) in more than a dozen genes that directly impair the heart. Many of these mutations cause cardiomyopathy (enlargement of the heart) or heart rhythm disturbances that can be fatal in childhood, adolescence or adulthood.

However, scientists also have pinpointed several mutations that affect the formation of the heart, leading to congenital heart malformations. For example, in 1999 a March of Dimes grantee at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas discovered a gene that appears to contribute to a common, important group of malformations affecting the heart’s outflow tract and the blood vessels arising from it. Researchers at Harvard Medical School identified a gene responsible for the heart defect called atrial septal defect (a hole between the upper chambers of the heart) in four families with multiple members affected by heart disease. The same researchers also identified another gene mutation that causes atrial septal defects accompanied by arm and hand malformations (Holt-Oram syndrome).

Researchers appear to be on the brink of discovering the genes that underlie numerous heart defects. They have recently identified several genes that direct development of the embryonic heart in mice. This should greatly improve our understanding of these genes’ human counterparts—and possibly lead to ways to prevent the various heart defects that mutations of those genes may cause.

Heart defects also can be part of a wider pattern of birth defects. For example, more than one-third of children with the chromosomal abnormality Down syndrome (characterized by mental retardation and physical birth defects) have heart defects, as do about a quarter of girls with another chromosomal abnormality called Turner syndrome (short stature, lack of sexual development and other problems). In fact, approximately 10 percent of children with heart defects have a chromosomal abnormality. Children with Down, Turner and certain other chromosomal abnormalities should be routinely evaluated for heart defects. Heart defects also are common in children with a variety of inherited disorders, including: Noonan (short stature, learning disabilities), Alagille (liver and other problems), Marfan (skeletal and eye defects) and Williams (mental retardation) syndromes.

my best friend since auguest is a grade lower than me. well obviously she knew my crush (in my grade) because i would obsess over him every day. well she went out with my freind in my grade. they broke up. but then today, i head that she was going out with my crush and its true!! im so mad at her! how LOW is that?!!! shes like "i thought you didnt like him anymore" im like "COME ON thats why i talk about him and obsess over him every day!!???!!!! give me a effin break!" so i was a crying during school. i HATE THIS. she broke up with him but im NEVER going to forgive her for this!!!

what do i do? thanks 4 reading

Ugh! I don't think that you should be friends with her anymore. First of all, you said that you've been "best friends" since August...That's barely 3 months. How do you know what kind of person she is? A true friend wouldn't go out
with her friend's crush. Also, she's a grade lower than you...she's younger and seems to be more immature. I'm sorry that this happened! I guess the moral is to really get to know a person before you talk about personal things (like your crush)

okay well like my friend (lets call her Kelly), well i though kelly was my best friend, and she was for a few years, but she knew other people in this other town and started hanging out there ALL the time and met this girl (lets call her linda) and linda and kelly became like BEST FRIENDS .. and now kelly barely like wants to hang out with me and like when i ask kelly to hang out she avoids the subject and then a day later i find out she avoided the subject cuz she already had plans with linda.
but sometimes i ask her to hang out first before she has any plans but then linda asks her to hang out AFTER i asked her and she said to me .. "sorry i cant go" and she hung out wit linda.
and now i have no plans for halloween this year cuz i got in a fight with my other bestfriend and now kelly is spending halloween with linda.
no one cares about my feelings and people push me around and i have no confidence and i cant really stand up for myself so i just kinda let people walk all over me.

Tell Kelly what she is doing is making you feel left out. Wait for the next time that she says "I'm hanging out with Linda," and then JUST DO IT. I know it takes courage, but if you want any definite answers, you have to do it. If she understands, I suppose you could still consider her your best friend. If she goes "Stop being so possessive! I can have more that one friend," maybe she is just excited about Linda and intends to hang out with you more later. So give it some time. If you've waited a while and she's still not hanging out with you, remind her again. If she says the same thing, then she is a flaky friend. Real friends split their time equally among all their other friends.

About the fight with the other best friend, I could help you more if you described the fight.

Best of luck!

Try the Stanford Anthology For Youth.

It's really good! My pen pal in California got some stuff published there.

I agree with GDROB2. poetry.com is just money, money, money.

What does it mean when a guy winks at you?

He's being flirtacious. It could mean that he likes you, or he's just having fun.

i was just wondering how old you were when you had your first kiss....im 14 and i still havent had mine so i kinda feel like a loser but plz put real age...ty

I'm 16 and I haven't had mine yet. In fact, I've never even dated before. Don't worry. I know it's easy to get left out when everyone says that they've been making out and kissing and stuff, but you're totally normal. There's no actual age...some people get them as young as 10, and some don't until they're 25, and some people never do in their entire life (not many, but they do exist). You've got plenty of time! I know that's a cliche, but it's true.
