Question Posted Monday July 17 2006, 12:20 pm

My cousin has been masturbating since she was 3 years old. Is that normal? She is 17 now.

[ Answer this question ]

Additional info, added Wednesday July 19 2006, 4:16 pm:
Her parents remember her doing it. And she says she can remember doing it since she was about 5 or 6, and she says she was infact "pleasuring herself".

normal, as in "not weird"?--no, its definately weird.
but, masterbating at that age is normal. i did it for a while when i was 4 or 5. yes, you CAN feel pleasure at that young of an age!!

3 years old? WOW, I dont know if that CAN happen, but I guess anything is possible? Masturbation is perfectly normal, almost everyone masturbates, I do, and im definitely not ashamed of it. In my eyes, its better than going out and having sex, no risk of getting pregnant, diseases, or guilt.

It's perfectly natural. Children often touch themselves from an early age. It's very innocent, and mostly done out of curiousity more than anything else.

Hi, many many children begin touching themselves at an early age. It is actually being debated in the medical community whether or not a girl that young can have pleasure from this (boys cannot ejaculate until around the age of 12 or so). As for the normality of the situation it is a very normal but if her need to masturbate affects her daily life, like she doesn't make plans to do something so that she can stay home and masturbate it is a problem and she should seek professional help.

Melody answered Monday July 17 2006, 6:29 pm:
Masturbating when she was three? No.
Exploring her body and touching herself? Maybe.

It's normal for a three year old to tough himself/herself, but i'm sure they get no sexual pleasure from it what so ever at such a young age. Maybe she just kept up the habit of touching herself, until it turned into acutal masturbating when she hit puberty.

It's just a possibility. Maybe i'm wrong, though i'm pretty sure i'm right. My brother is like 7, and he touches himself all the time (I see his hands down his pants constantly. It's rather funny actually. But yes, i'm sure he isn't actually pleasuring himself.)

I don't think she was masturbating. It's not really possible for a 3 year old to pleasure itself sexually. She was probably just wondering about her body..

That's just impossible. Maybe you meant 13. But three? No way. And yes it's normal of it was 13, but not if it's 3.
