Question Posted Thursday October 20 2005, 12:36 am
As dumb as this may sound, I didn't actually realize how horrible it is, when you eat chicken & hamburgers. I didn't actually understand the concept that for me to eat a hamburger, is for an innocent cow to just die. My friend sent me an e-mail with a video about fur trade in China, and how dogs & cats are skinned and killed everyday just for fur. But, it got me to thinking how horrible that actually is. I really have been thinking about it today, and I think just eating hamburgers & chicken is disgusting especially knowing that an animal died for that. I'm really considering turning into a vegetarian. Do you believe that this is a good enough reason to want to turn vegetarian? Thanks so much. ♥

I am an animal lover too, I know how bad it is to be thinking about the animals that serve as food...
The way I think of it is that man, in general, was meant to eat meat as well as plants. Even though it is cruel to kill an animal, it's natural in many ways. In nature, there is a food chain and animals pray on eachother to keep the ecosystem in balance. That's just the way it is. So I don't think that-even if we love animals-we should be guilty about eating other animals. [ honu22's advice column | Ask honu22 A Question ]

They will let you know what you need to supplement for, and what vitamins to take. They'll probably reccommend certain foods for you to eat, and explain to you all of the side effects of such a lifestyle change.
I don't reccommend you join PETA, as they are very extremist. However, you can of course do what you wish. Groups such as PETA are very focused on forcing EVERYONE to turn vegetarian/vegan, and that really isn't very nice. There are plenty of vegetarian groups that advocate choice, which is important.
I won't force a vegetarian to eat steak, and they won't force me to eat only lettuce. Simple as that. Just make sure you know the difference between advocating something, and forcing it on others.
Make sure you talk to your doctor and get all the information you need to keep yourself healthy, but at the same time happy with your beliefs. [ FernGully's advice column | Ask FernGully A Question ]
CheerleaderGirl answered Friday October 21 2005, 5:04 am: thats why most veggies turn into veggies, thats an awesome reason i mean its really cool that you feel for these animals and stuff but if you decide to go veggie you need to get your protein from other sources. make sure you look into all the stuff that goes into being a vegitarian and also you practiclly are changing your whole eating diet becuase many many things contain meat that you dont even know has meat in it so make sure you check out some sites and get your homework done about being a vegitarian. simply your reason is awesome i saw that same video about the animals in china and it was discusting i never buy fur anymore. go for it~ ♥ Kelley ♥ [ CheerleaderGirl's advice column | Ask CheerleaderGirl A Question ]
UWishUHadMyHemi answered Thursday October 20 2005, 10:57 pm: there really is no wrong reason to be a vegetarian. if you think you need to be a vegetarian, who is it to tell you no? youd be doing your part to make the world a better place. more power to you.
one word of advice though, when you stop eating meat, you lose some vitamins and minerals. look into taking vitamins to help you replace the vitamins youd be losing.
x_mystery answered Thursday October 20 2005, 7:54 pm: My personal reason for being vegetarian is this.
I've heard people say "God (or whatever creation theroy you believe) put animals on the earth for other animals to eat (meaning humans)." Sure, I'll take it, but here's my problem. Animals were NOT put on the earth to be treated cruelly. Cows (beef) yeah sure I'd eat 'em if they were allowed to always roam where they like - and when they die of natural causes and the meat's still good, wonderful. But no. They are kept in stalls to small for the cow to turn around in (for a substantial amount of time - not from birth till death, though) and are not treated like living things. They do feel pain while being slaughtered, even if momentarily. Its not just murder, its being tortured, then murdered after the fact. I'm not going to go into other animals, but you are welcome to read about them here: www.peta2.com however, keep in mind that PETA is an extremest group, and please do not worship their every word. I'd be happy to assist you (or anybody) that would like to know about being vegetarian, the path to becoming vegetarian, or otherwise - just drop me an email at xdeathnotronic@hotmail.com [ x_mystery's advice column | Ask x_mystery A Question ]
Vendetta answered Thursday October 20 2005, 5:04 pm: Yeah. If you want to be a vegetarian, do it.
It isn't something I'd ever do, but no one can decide what is a "good enough" reason, since that question is all subjective. One person's views will greatly differ from another's. Do what you feel is right. [ Vendetta's advice column | Ask Vendetta A Question ]

If you feel your ready to give up meat etc. then yes go for it. I've always been a vegetarian and I don't feel i'm missing out on a great deal veges are just as well healthy, have a think about it and if and when you feel ready try it and see how you feel.
sillyrob answered Thursday October 20 2005, 5:09 am: What about the millions of starving people in this world who would kill for that meat you are considering not eating. What about the thousands of those who die everyday? Do you care about those people? Who cares if some stupid cows have to die, its not like we steal wild cows and randomly slaughter them. Anyways, MILLIONS of small animals (snakes, mice, other field creatures) die from harvesting wheat fields, are you going to stop eating all together? Unless you grow all of your own food or have a health/religious issue with meat, becoming a vegetarian is no better. Animals will die no matter what choice you make, so at least eat the product of the animal instead of it rotting away in a field. [ sillyrob's advice column | Ask sillyrob A Question ]
ncblondie answered Thursday October 20 2005, 12:49 am: The reason you've stated here is a common one for turning vegetarian. Others choose to make the change for health reasons. If you do decide to go meat-free, I would suggest talking to your doctor about a balanced diet to make sure that you're getting all the nutrients your body needs.
