jj_u_i_c_y answered Thursday August 18 2005, 10:05 pm: doing any type of active exerise like walking or running, anything will help. but it wont just lose stomach fat but fat everywhere. walking doesnt burn as much as running would in a 30 or 20 minute time so you would proboly want to do some walking about 2 times a day rather than running 1 time a day.
LiLKimmy769 answered Thursday August 18 2005, 7:40 pm: i drank water instead of pop. i treated myself to a pop once or twice a week. no chips and bad stuff like that. situps work pretty good, and trampoline helps alot and its actually fun! walking will help and you'll actually be able to move without arthritis pain at age 65. ;-) best of luck to you..

willyoucatchme answered Thursday August 18 2005, 5:23 pm: Walking is safer and better on your knees than running, but runnig does get your heartbeat up. If you feel you cannot run, you could try a light jog or sprint. If you have a treadmill that has an incline.... walking with a high incline could be equal to jogging with no incline. Cardio vascular exercises are good for your heart and will help you burn calories....if you get your heartbeat high enough then you will burn fat!
ncblondie answered Thursday August 18 2005, 1:25 pm: You'll burn a few more calories if you run, but walking will still help you get the weight off. Studies have shown that walking is actually better than running since it puts less strain on your joints. I would suggest adding crunches to your exercise program to help tone the muscles. azngemini answered Thursday August 18 2005, 12:49 pm: when a person runs a mile, and another person walks a mile, they're going to burn about the same amount of calories, except that the person running burns a little more calories. but running is a lot better because it helps you gain muscles and makes you look more lean.
walking can help you lose some weight, but i doubt it's going to help you lose your stomach fat. because when you're walking, you're just moving your legs, therefore.. you're only exercising your legs.
to make your stomach look less fat, you're gonna have to do crunches, leg lifts, etc... you can also eat a cup of yoplait light 3 times a day. that can help you lose weight and it'll probably take some weight off your stomach too [ azngemini's advice column | Ask azngemini A Question ]
Teen_Guru answered Thursday August 18 2005, 12:31 pm: Walking is a good exercise; running is also good. If you want to work on the stomach muscles running the same speed for a long distance is good, sit-ups & pull-ups are both good too. Since you’re not good at running, try power-walking, it not quite running but not quite walking ether (or in other words a fast walk for a distance). The trick is QUANTITY and QUALITY. With power-walking you can base it off how long you go for (for example 20 power-walk), or how far you go (for example 2 miles).
Also what will help is eating right, cut back on fast-food /junk food, and go for a salad or something. Also if you’re doing some heavy duty work out have Carbs, they give you energy. If you’re doing light work out do eat quite as much as you would on the heavy-duty ones.
sunnyville answered Thursday August 18 2005, 12:21 pm: It will help but not that much running is more effective. When I had to run a lot believe me it was hard but I got used to it and especially breathing from just your nose. And now it is easy it took like a couple of weeks to get used to it.You could do some jump roping, dancing exercises,a lot of aerobic exercises like punches, kicks, other moves they'll show you if you go to a special program like YMCA or Bally total Fitness. If you are having problems to workout at home there is always the gym you could go follow my example and you will have a personnal trainer to help you out.He will also give you a food plan and they will ask if you want to lose weight or gain weight.Best of luck! xomegaroni answered Thursday August 18 2005, 12:00 pm: walking isn't really the same but it can help you lose weight. running does it faster i think. here's what you can do!
-basketball! yes there's some running involved but you can take breaks and what not
-jogging/walking mix it up a bit, maybe throw in some running with it
-swim if you can, indoor er outdoor
watch what you eat.
-sleep 9/10 hrs every night
-eat all 3 meals especially breakfast
-eat 3 snacks, maybe every 3 hours, but it has to be healthy like fruits, veggies, crackers, etc
-then exersize 1-2 hrs
TheOldOne answered Thursday August 18 2005, 11:45 am: ANY exercise will help. Even little things like taking the stairs more often will contribute.
But there's a lot more that you can do.
Your best options are to eat a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, drink lots of water, and do cardiovascular exercises every other day - that is, walk (fast), or jog, or run, or bike, or swim, or use some sort of cardio machine at a gym. Your cardio workout needs to last at least 30-40 minutes, and more is better.
That will speed up your metabolism, which will make your body burn fat at a higher rate all the time - even when you're sleeping.
On alternate days, warm up with some light cardio exercise (about 15 minutes) and do some weight training; you can use free weights or exercise machines. If money is short, you can get an incredible range of exercise with just a couple of five or ten-pound hand weights. By toning up your muscles you'll improve your shape and burn more fat.
Sit-ups are a fine addition to your muscle-building regimen. Just make sure not to hurt yourself, and give your muscles at least every other day off to rest. After weight training, you can do some more cardio, if you feel up to it. But it sounds as if you're still growing, so it's important not to overdo it. If you feel pain, stop and rest! And make sure to stay well-hydrated. Drink a lot of water.
As for motivation...one thing that helps is to make a regular schedule. If you know that from 7 to 8 o'clock (or whenever) every day is your time to work out, you're much more likely to stick to it - particularly once you make it through the first few days.
You can develop that habit surprisingly quickly.
The most important thing is to make sure that you ENJOY all of this - the change in diet, and the exercise. You need to want to do it because it's fun. That means that if there's a part of the new routine that's painful or really unpleasant, you need to change it. It's better to give up (or replace) one particular exercise, or one particular vegetable, than to give up all hope and just pig out.
I have the feeling that you're young. This is a perfect opportunity to give yourself great habits that will last for a lifetime - a lifetime that will be longer, and *healthier*.
