I'm really tired of just wearing jeans and a t-shirt to school. I want to start dressing nicer. But all the nice/cute clothes that I find are tank tops or spaghetti straps. And the problem with that is at my school all tops have to have a strap of 3 inches.
Does anyone know of any place that has nice/cute tops that aren't tank or spaghetti?
Thanks.

Moving on, there's some cute wrap shirts out there that are definitely dressier than a t-shirt. To make those tank tops wearable, wear a cropped jacket or sweater. Oooh, or one of those really short things that ties in front.
Get a spaghetti in one color and a button-up shirt in a color that goes with it (same color family, maybe) and wear then together, leaving the over shirt unbuttoned.
When it gets cold, there's a billion cute long sleeve shirts. :)
Stores to try: Kohl's, Ross, TJ Maxx, Rave, Forever 21, and any thrift stores around, like Goodwill (my god, I love shopping at Goodwill).

Another option is to wear the spagetti strap tops, but wear a cute cardigan or cropped jacked (those popular overshirts that only go down under your boobs) or something like that. [ Shortcake22's advice column | Ask Shortcake22 A Question ]
azngemini answered Thursday August 11 2005, 7:10 pm: try stores like banana republic, express, bebe, pacsun, aeropostale, H&M, forever 21, urban outfitters, american eagle, papaya, rue 21, hollister, abercrombie, yellow rat bastard(i'm not sure if they have yrb stores outside of nyc), wetseal. macy's has a great variety of clothing labels. they've got brands like dkny, calvin klein, ralph lauren jeans, tommy hilfiger, and other hot clothing brands that's bound to have some cute tops that you'll like. but if you're not into designer labels, or if you dont want to spend a lot of money, then you can try like.. JcPenny or Sears or Kohls, they should have some nice tops
0xjennaxheartx0 answered Thursday August 11 2005, 6:32 pm: abercrombie, hollister, and american eagle.
but if you want to go with something less expensive, i would say delias. they have really cute short-sleeved shirts, that are usually under 30 bucks each. [ 0xjennaxheartx0's advice column | Ask 0xjennaxheartx0 A Question ]
devilspawn_666 answered Thursday August 11 2005, 6:30 pm: 3 inches? Wow, that's a little strict... but there are places that have cute tops that you're able to wear to school. Try places like Target, JcPenny, or Kohl's. They ususally have a variety of things to choose from and are relatively inexpensive. [ devilspawn_666's advice column | Ask devilspawn_666 A Question ]
falliingxagain answered Thursday August 11 2005, 6:11 pm: You can always find those light sweaters (either half sweaters or full ones.. that are open like a jacket) and wear those overtop of the tanktops. I got around that rule in school when I was younger by wearing multiple tanktops at one time so it looked as though the straps were thicker. =) Hope I helped! funkymunky817 answered Thursday August 11 2005, 5:35 pm: try looking in department stores in the clearance section i find all my dressy yet casual tops there. a lot of t-shirts are fancy if you have the right accesories. last year i wore a t-shirt with a dog on it from old navy with a demin blazer and heels and it was the perfect dressy yet casual outfit needed for school. so try a t-shirt with a pair of heels

karenR answered Thursday August 11 2005, 5:30 pm: I won't pretend to be a good one at giving advice on fashion. Jeans and T-shirts suit me down to the ground! However, why not try a nice little light weight blazer or jackets to cover the spaghetti strapped tops? Then you could wear them out and about without but, still be okay for school. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
