backpack

Question Posted Thursday August 4 2005, 11:36 pm

I have a problem. With my jansport backpack, I have 7 folders and notebooks, and I cant seem to fit all of them. The backpack is pretty good sized, but I mean, I can only fit my binder (medium sized),7 folders, and like, 3 100 pg notebooks. What should I do? I mean, dont just tell me to try to fit everything in there and then try to zip it. Believe me, I tried that. So..what should I do? Is there anything I can do??

I suggest you get a bigger bag or you can try to get stronger and smaller folders like this:

Or you can use binders if you are more comfortable with it.

I'd suggest either getting a bigger backpack, or carrying the binder around -- binders usually look smaller than they actually are, you can probably fit all the rest of your stuff in. And people don't necessarily look like dorks carrying their binders around -- just cover it with pictures of hot guys or something.
♥ Hope I helped.

Usually one the first day of school noone expects you to bring everything...divied it up. Or carry your extra things in another bag.

You can just hold your binder, and get a bag to carry it in. Another option would be to get an even bigger backpack.

Do you need to take every single thing to school every single day? This used to happen to me in high school as well and later at university (because I didn't have a locker). I didn't see anything wrong with it until I started to get backaches. And not just little pains - sharp shooting pains from my shoulder blades down to the small of my back. I finally realized it was either "lighten up" or pay the consequences. I have a Jansport too, which I love and it's roomy, I agree, but it was never meant to tote around your entire course! So, here are some tips that I've used myself:
1)Essentials that should *always* be kept in your backpack: your pencil case and an extra pad of paper just in case. Leave these in there and think of them as "given weight". Other things you might consider according to your needs: your cellphone, your wallet, and a packet of tissues (you never know).
2) Lay out exactly what is needed for that particular school day - textbooks, the notebook for that day's classes and the folders that hold that day's assignments. Put everything else aside in a safe place. If you're scared you'll forget something, write yourself a note and tape it somewhere you're sure to look at every morning before school.
3) Prioritize. If certain classes give out less work than others, the assignments from that class can share a folder with another class. For instance, if your "X" class only gives out handouts once every two weeks, you can get a divider and keep those with the stuff from class "Y". This will save some space.
4) Ever consider ditching notebooks altogether? What I do is take one pad of paper (maybe 2, as per your need) and I write the name of the class in one corner on the first sheet of the notes I take for that class. When I'm done, I clip them together and place them in my folder for that class. You could punch holes and put them in a binder, that could be divided according to classes. If you're scared you'll get mixed up, you can color-code or symbol-code your notes e.g. use a pink highlighter to mark every page of notes for one class or draw a smiley face on the bottom of every page of notes for another. This will most definitely cut down on space and weight, because you don't have to lug around heavy notebooks - just the pad of paper.
5)I cannot stress enough the importance of housekeeping. Recycle anything you are DEFINITELY sure you don't need - notes from before midterms, old handouts, assignments that no longer need to be kept. If you're unsure, take out stuff you're not sure about and put them altogether in a folder marked "?" and put this somewhere safe. So if your teacher asks for an old assignment from March, you can go back, route it out and hand it in, without having to lug it around with you.
Hope some of these tips work. And remember, try to limit the weight you carry around - that's key. Good luck!

Well, remember you could used a locker. But, what I usually do when that happens is that I carry my binder (since its not really heavy) and leave everything else in my bag. You probaly use your binder more and would have to pull it out of your bag more frequently.

put some of it in your locker if you have a locker or get some 70 paged notebooks and use those using new ones whenever you run out of paper if theres a folder and a notebook you dont use everyday then keep it at home or in your locker to have on hand only for when you need it
