Depression

Question Posted Thursday August 4 2005, 11:37 pm

Well, I have been VERY depressed lately about different things. My dad makes me really mad. I'm tired of being depressed. I can't get to sleep at night. I hate it. My best friend is wonderful and she tries to help me. But nothing works. EVER! I feel so bad because she tries her best. I love her so much for helping me. I'm just.. I don't know. I'm always sad. I need help. And I can't afford some REAL help, if you know what I mean. SO.. Does anyone have any advice?? I will rate 4s and 5s!!

It sounds to me like you need to seek professional help. No, that doesn't mean that you need to be on medication. Look, friends are great, and they can really help out sometimes. I'm sure your best friend has the best intentions for you, but she simply can't give you the same help that a licensed professional can. Talk to your parents (your mom, preferably, since you're not on great terms with your dad). Make it known that you're really feeling depressed and it's affecting your sleep. Is it affecting anything else -- eating, your other friendships, relationship with your boyfriend (if you have one), et cetera? Tell them everything, and ask that they send you to a psychiatrist. It seems to me like that's your best bet.
♥ Hope I helped.

Well a lot of people go through what you do. Just dont do anything to physically hurt you. The only advice I can give you is to go to a school counselor or someone like that. You could go to another family member & tell them whats bugging you & ask them what to do as well. Counselor is best though, i think. But what else you can do is draw, paint, read, take a relaxing bath, take walks, and things like that, that will relax you and make you feel less depressed. Try solving the issues between you and your dad & that might help. I dont know what else to tell you. Listen to music, that helps.

I've been through this before and still go through it. Depression can really take it out of you and that may be the cause of your lack of sleep at night, it did with me. What I found best to do in regards to this is try and occupy your mind with other things other than what can make you depressed (this website and my advice column are two of the big ventelators I have to relieve my stress and help the depression I feel). You can try taking up some kind of extra-curricular activity when school starts and also try excersizing, I've found it is a VERY good way to take your mind off whatever may be getting you depressed.

Keep talking to your best friend because she has proved she is going to be there to listen to you. Whenever your feeling depressed go to her and let her know your feelings, it can help alot more than you know because I also have a friend that I CONSTANTLY go to when I am depressed for any reason at all.

As for your dad, I don't know why he makes you so mad, but try and talk to him about it. Let him know your mad at whatever it is he does and try and work it out from there.

Also another thing that really helped me through depression is prayer. You would be surprised at how useful and uplifting it is when your like that. You have to understand God lets everything happen for a reason, we don't know the reason, but eventually we will after it is over, said, and done.

Good luck with this and I hope everything turns out alright.

-Ryan

P.S. I don't believe in taking medicine for depression, I believe it only creates a front for you to hide behind.

aw, look, ok, forget about the rating thing bc im here to help you out. i used to be in the same situation. i mean, my friends all hated me, my dad left(he's back now), and my mom thought that we were gonna loose the house. so i know how you feel. its ok to be sad for awhile but just dont let anything bring you down! tell yourself that you are strong and you can do anything. if you feel down at all then go out and do something. go ride a bike or see a movie with your friend or just take a walk to just...well..think. if you get so mad you cant stand it anymore then just scream as loud as you can in your pillow. try to think of all of your blessings everyday. like take time to smell the flowers or call up one of your friends to have a good laugh. my dad and other things make me mad sometimes too but you cant let that get you depressed forever! well, i hope i helped and feel free to ask me anything else.

Well if I were you I would try and find something relaxing to do. Like whenever I get sad I go to my room and stare at a random spot and clear my mind and just stare at it. It's wierd but it helps. Also you should try yoga that helps a lot to!

Hope I Helped :)

Well, try talking to your dad, about how he makes you feel. If just ignors you, which should not happen, then try to avoid him. Tlak to your mom, about your feelings, she might help.
Also, when I'm depressed, I stop relieving the painful moments of my past, and I try not concentrate on current situation. Instead I think of the future, and what kind of wonderful things I would get to do.

Ok... Well there are a lot of people depressed. However, there are even more people that have nothing. They have no homes, no family, no food, no money. Nothing. Sorry, but this is the best I can do. If you send me exacty what you are depressed about, I might be able to give you a better answer. So, untill then, please cheer up.

i know how you feel.
i used to be depressed too, sometimes i still am.
thats good that your best friend tries to help you. tell her to keep it up!
dont EVER try to do anything that will hurt you physically or emotionally that you think will cheer you up. trust me, it doesnt work.
try doing things you love, go watch comedy movies (it takes your mind off of things), watch tv, play games.
fnid something you love to do, and whenever you get depressed, do that thing you love!
