Can i ask seriously. When people come on this. Do they answer questions genuinely to help people and hopefully help them through a tough patch or whatever; or do they do it for ratings? It makes me mad when you see a confused person askin a serious question; only for it to be answered by someone. Who at the end makes it obvious(or seemingly) that they don't care byu saying "please rate"Ok i know they jus want acknowledgement and appreciation. But if the person is willing to or want to im sure they will. Why do you ask or say things like this? I really don't know so any answers are appreciated.

If you have a good question i will answer seriously. If your question annoys me i might make a smart ass comment, but i'd never ask for ratings.

xBestAddiction answered Monday July 11 2005, 12:05 am: Okay I'm not one of the people that says 'please rate me' at the end of my answers, but maybe people want a 5 rating because they want to be a person that has a perfect 5 rating so people will go to them for advice instead of someone with like a 3 rating. well i hope i helped answer your question! MELiixMARiiE answered Sunday July 10 2005, 7:24 pm: Well I'm sure most people do this to help people.. I mean that's what this site is for =) There are some people out there that do just want acknowlegement and appreciation which is sad, because these people are coming to you for help ; and all you want is to be rated. On my site I do ask at the very bottom to rate, because I like seeing that I helped people alot and I like reading their comments, and it also lets me know how good of a job I am doing, because if I'm getting 1's from everyone then I'm not gonna do this anymore, cause I don't want to be giving people bad advive. And everytime I finish an answer I always go," Hope I helped!" =) So.. hope I helped!! hahaha..
akissintheshapeofabullet answered Sunday July 10 2005, 6:19 pm: I personally dont care what the person rates me. I am here to help people and whether or not they take my advice is up to them. If i have helped someone its nice to know by getting a rating, but as long as I have atleast attempted to help someone, it makes my day better.
X0C0URT answered Sunday July 10 2005, 5:33 pm: I only answer questions where I think my answer will be helpful. I don't really care about my ratings, I just want to help people with their problems. I'm sure there are a lot of people on this site you give some lame answer just to get it over with and get a rating, but I don't do that and and I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't either.
poetqueen answered Sunday July 10 2005, 5:06 pm: some people think the advice columns are a huge joke i for one take it pretty serious when i answer a question or i dont answer it. if i dont know what to say to someones questions i dont say anything i do get high ratings however but i dont ask for them just trying to give genuine unique advice if you have any other questions please ask them and ill try to answer the best i can. hope i helped! Napalm350z answered Saturday July 9 2005, 10:54 pm: I know what you mean. It's rather selfish of them. Yet, being a moderator, you have to keep your rating up. But that isn't much of an excuse, is it? lol. [ Napalm350z's advice column | Ask Napalm350z A Question ]
FunnyCide answered Saturday July 9 2005, 9:27 pm: Anthony,
I, for one, agree with you. I don't do it for the ratings... I haven't been rated in several days. I probably get rated 1 out of every 4 or 5 questions I answer. To me, it is more important to answer a question decently than to answer half-heartedly and say "please rate" at the bottom. I've never signed with "please rate" because it is basically saying, "I helped you, now you help me. Fair and square." Which is not how it is supposed to be! This site was supposed to be about helping, not getting helped, giving, not recieving! Why are we asking them to rate us when we're supposed to answer their questions? Yes, I admit that I like to get rated, it lets me know what people think of my advice. I take a sense of pride in my almost-5-star rating - which stays at almost 5 or 5 - but it's not so important that I feel that I need to ask for ratings. If they want to rate, they good and well will rate me.
I suppose that people ask for ratings because they think they need to say "please rate," otherwise they wont get rated! It seems that they haven't grasped the concept that (listen closely now) does not matter if you say "please rate" or not. The person will rate if they want to. They do not need a reminder!
But that's my opinion. Some people may have other opinions. I have not read the other answers, but that would be most interesting. Thank you, Anthony, for asking this question. It has been most enjoyable answering.

KELSiixGRACE answered Saturday July 9 2005, 2:48 pm: well i dont know about other people but i do my advice to help people. whats the point in getting ratings? as far as i know u dont get payed for ne of this so people should just do their sites for good reasons.. hope that answers your question..
poa answered Saturday July 9 2005, 2:19 pm: I answer generally to help myself, when I started I tried to help people, but they were considerably unappreciative so now I just mainly use it as a place to vent my anger. People that say "please rate" generally piss me off. Who honestly cares about rating? 95% of the people I see with perfect ratings give terrible advice and just tell people what they want to hear, instead of telling them the truth and its fairly repulsive.
Sammerz619 answered Saturday July 9 2005, 2:13 pm: Well i know the reason that i joined this thing is because i saw it and some girl said her bf dumped her blah blah... and someone said go get some guys to go jump him and i was like WTF?? So i really dont care about the ratings(you cna give me all 1s if u want) But ill still do this cuz i kno that in (at least) in some small way i am helping someone. Thats really all that matters right? Sammerz [ Sammerz619's advice column | Ask Sammerz619 A Question ]
banned4life answered Saturday July 9 2005, 2:12 pm: what the hell do ratings have to do with it, i dont even "rate" anyone or asked to be "rated"
HyperactiveMiss answered Saturday July 9 2005, 2:04 pm: "Why do you ask or say things like this?"
You can't say "you" because I NEVER end my answer with "rate me!"
Some people are too caught up in ratings. That's just the way it is. Like rich people. They don't really need money, but they want it. Why ratings should matter I'm not sure (Well, unless you're a mod because then you need to keep your ratings up). Advicenators answering questions do take the time to answer questions and try to help, so they really WOULD appreciate a rating and feedback at least for their trouble, but either way people will rate others whether they want to or not. I don't see how "rate me!" will really help.
But there aren't just answers that say "rate me!". There are painfully many questions that say "I RATE HIGH!" and things like that. Just take a look around. I guess it's pretty much equal on both sides (although very sad and annoying).
MummuM answered Saturday July 9 2005, 1:39 pm: Some people are just heartless I guess. Rating's shouldn't matter at all. What matters is you get the enjoyment of helping someone out. I don't care much about ratings, but I do like comments. Since they tell me how I'm doing at giving advice and how much my advice did help them. If they took the ratings out, I'd still be here. Infact, they should take the ratings off, but keep the comments on.
