Question Posted Saturday April 23 2005, 1:09 pm

I'm a bit overweight and so I've always been a little bit embarassed to exercise in front of people. It seems to just make things worse for me, because then I don't feel like I get enough exercise in the day, but I hate running because I'm slower and always afraid somebody will see me, and I don't even like doing stuff at home because my mom and dad might see me. Any good tips for conquering my fear or ways to exercise alone?

if you dont like exercizing around people heres what i do... get one of those totally awsome workout tapes (get one or two or three so you dont get board)... u can probably go to the library and check one out if you dont feel like spendin a lot of green.. or just order one out of a sports catalouge... and another thing is jog jog jog jog jog!!! and drink a lot of water...

about the exercizing in public thing... i think i was a bit overweight when i was younger... but you see heres the thing.. when i look at an overweight person exercizig i dont think... eww how nasty!! i think its great that theyre trying to get back in shape.. most people at a gym arent looking to point out ppl to make fun of... theyre there for the same reaso you are... to get it shape.. i cant really tell you how to feel better about yourself though.. ull have to figure it out

I understand its really hard, I actually sometimes feel that way too. But we all need to feel confident in our bodies, and if your weight is a problem.. then talk to your parents they will definately be there for you. If you dont like to excercise around people, excercise with an excercise tape! There is one out there called firm which gives great daily excercises and keep you feeling good about your self. My sister takes yoga classes, which isnt really a form of work out.. its more of an art.. it actually keeps you antistressed. Its a beautfiul way to keep your self in a beautiful serenity lol if you wanna call it that. Most people in yoga classes are in for themselves.. they are probably just as stressed out as you might be..lol chances are they shouldnt give what you look like one second. you are just an ordinary person going to a yoga class just like them. People shouldnt judge and if they do you know that they are just to self concious and cant find anything better to do. But if none of this makes you feel better you could also try a personal trainor. those people are paid to do things to help people get fit. wether your pear shaped or need to loose a booty they know just what to do. they also give a healthy life style to live by. remember they see unfit people everyday and could care less what you look like. Soo talk to your parents and seee if any of these options help! Good luck!!!

If you see people exercsing...they were probably "overweight" once 2! Go to a gym...or buy weights! But know how to ecercise so you dont hurt yourself! Buy a book or a tape. But if exercising isnt your thing...try to eat good and do yoga or palaties...you can even do aerobics or step aerobics! Its fun! But if you want all of that to work...EAT HEALTHY! x3asHleyx3

You can tell your parents to leave you alone and they will also give you tips when exercising. jump rope is a great cardio activity because it works all muscles and joints and its inexpensive. also sit ups and push ups work. i used to be overweight and embaressed to exercise but when my parents saw me exercising they were glad i was because of diabetes running in the family. also start of small and give your muscles a rest every 2 days and increase your workout intensity every two weeks. rate me please

aww! its ok to be a little embarrassed but dont let that keep you from it! you can do crunches, situps and other indoor things in the comfort of you bedroom or living room. you should try running...ts ok to be slow. im not the fastest person either so you can go alone (during the day) and take it slow and dont go against anyone but yourself. lemme know if you need anymore help with this! <3

Dont me embarassed to exersise. It can be fun! Invite your friend over and just go out for a walk. When you are home by yourself do some situps jump rope and run up and down on your stairs. Do sit ups before you go to bed it helps! x0

well if you want to excersise alone you can run on a tread mill in your basement (if you have one) or if you dont have a tread mill and cant afford one you can rent one just so you can get back into shape. It is kind of odd that you dont want your parents to see you. there is probably no way of ensuring that they dont see you at all. if they do sneak a peek of you exersising they arent going to make fun of you or anything. they are your parents! most likely they would be proud that you are dedicated to getting fit. and if they do see you its not like they are going to stare at you while your exersising. Its really hard to conquer a fear but think about it this way, if you run in public and stuff you will be conquering your fear and getting fit at the same time. dont worry about what other people think.

You can get a aerobix tape and just do that at home in your room. Do it for about 1 hr and half. Then you will feel much better, they have different types of aerobix some for your stomach, arms, legs and loads. Mabe you could take up a sport you like or enjoy doing that will help you get better in shape. If you want to run go to a park where other people run and you wont feel as bad.

Aww honey I know exactly how you feel, You really need to realize taht big is beautiful. I was anorexic for a year and It was horrible i would look in teh mirror and all i saw was where i was fat then i realized so what if im fat ill do something about it so heres what you do Eat right, and exercise if someone sees so what if they say something say to yourself "Im doing something to make me feel good theres nothing wrong with that".

Maybe exercise in your room? Blast your fave radio station/CD, lock ur door, put up a "DONT DISTURB ME' sign. When you exercise more and more, you will be able to exercise in front of family. Then in public. Good for you, for trying to become healthier! (=

If I were you, I'd go to a place where everyone is exercising, like the exercise room at the YMCA, or a fitness center. At these places, everyone's there to exercise, and they won't judge you by how you look.

DrAnqel answered Saturday April 23 2005, 1:51 pm:
i used to be kinda like that, i would suggest a private gym, (i.e. at an appartment complex, like a country club/fitness center etc.) or maybe early in the morning you could go for a quick jog around the block, nobody has to see you but if you want to get over that fear, wear something that you like, listen to music, read, whatever makes you feel less tense and more relaxed, you never want to be stressed out when you're working out. also if you maintain a good diet, that helps as well, less carbs, sugars, starches etc. Hope I helped, IM me if you have any more questions sillyangel869 -Angel

exercise when no one's home or in the basement or your room. you can run afterschool around your neighborhood with a friend...that would be the best way to tone your body because it works the core muscles and all of your body. even though yoiu hate running, it's the best way for you to get in shape. good luck & hope i helped!
