Question 'bout Periods.

Question Posted Monday January 24 2005, 9:41 pm

Okay, well I just got mine, tonight...and I am NOT telling my mom. At least, not yet. I just have a few questions about periods....

1. How often should I change them?
2. Should I wear them to bed?
3. How many should I carry with me?
4. Where should I put them? I don't carry a backpack...or a purse.

That's it. Thank you! =D

well first off you should definatly tell your mom..its no big thing she went through it to!!

1. change them ever 3-4 hours
2. you can wear them to bed..just change it right before you go to bed
3. you should carry like 3 when your in school and stuff
4.you should put them in a tampon case thing..you can fit pads in there..try starting to carry a purse--it will be easier

xASH answered Thursday January 27 2005, 8:01 pm:
You should change your pads about every 2 hr. to 3 hrs. .(so you won't start to smell)
You should def. wear them to bed because your period doesn't stop just so you can sleep.
You should carry maybe 2 or 3 with you.
And i think maybe you should start carrying a purse or backpack because if you just put it in your pocket , people most likely will be able to see it and they'll know you're on your period.

I really think you should tell your mom, but that's my opinion. Change your pad ever 3 to 5 hours and I think you can wear them to bed. Carry like maybe 2 or 3 pads in a pocket in your purse so it doesn't fall out and humiliate you, lol. Well, congrats and good luck!

1. Depending on how "heavy" your flow is you should probably change them every 3-4hours.

2. yes you should wear them to bed because you willhave a mess on your hands if you don't. you can get special ones for when you sleep.

3.if your at school you should carry 2-3 just in cases.
4. i guess put them in your pocket or start carrying them in a purse

xXxpinky615xXx answered Tuesday January 25 2005, 3:01 pm:
Well, my suggestion is to start bringing a purse with you. If not wear a big sweatshirt and put it in the front pocket of it. Depending on how heavy you get it, that should determine how often you can change it. To start, if you get it really heavy, change it every 2-3 hours. If it's not as heavy then every 3-4 hours. Carry at least 2-3 with you. Keep them in your locker and when you need them take them out of your locker. Welcome to the world of being a woman. If you aren't in highschool yet, you'll notice when you get into highschool about 98% of the girls carry a purse for that reason. And I think you have to tell your mom. It's nothing to be ashamed of. It happened to her so she knows exactly what you're going through. Mom's always know everything about it and know exactly how to make you feel better about stuff like that. You should tell her. But if you're not comfortable, you should tell her by your next scheduled period. (28-30 days when you finish the one you just started) Hope this helped.

rainbowcherrie answered Tuesday January 25 2005, 12:32 pm:
Change them about every 4 hours or so, more often if you have a heavier flow. Yes, definitely wear them to bed, you still get your period at night. Carry as many as you're going to need. If you're going to be out all day, then you will need about 3 or 4 but if you are only going to be out for a few hours then one should be enough. You could keep them in your pocket or in a small holder in your pocket but it's best to carry a small shoulder bag or something around with you to hold them in.

1. Once every 4 to six hours - depending on your flow
2. YES - you can get super absorbent ones for night time so you don't leak
3. Purse, gym bag, back pack, pockets - you can get really tiny ones that fit anywhere.
4. Start carrying your things in a bag or a purse? Or stash them in your locker and go back to your locker if you need one.

jO_jO answered Monday January 24 2005, 10:23 pm:
ok well..

1.you should change everytime you see quiet a bit of blood on it
2.YES YES YES! you would not want to wake up in the morning with blood running down your legs and all over your bed would you?!
3.pads carry at least 2 or 3 depending on how heavy your flow is
4.they now make pads that are small enough to carry with you in a pocket and no one will notice.

i really hoped this helped .. and just tell your mother because she knows alot more than you think and she wont make a big deal about it. If you are embaressed to go in the store with her because you dont want her to make a scene when you are buying them then look online at all the diffrent kinds .. playtex kotex every kind and decide from there which one you would want and your mother can go pick them up on her own without you there

dreamingkat answered Monday January 24 2005, 10:20 pm:
I only have experience with disposable pads, so I'll answer from that perspective. Just a shout out, if anyone reading this has experience with reusable cloth pads, I'm interested in knowing if this is different.

1. Change them when they fill up. As you get experience, you will learn what size you need. I'd aim for getting a size that needs to be changed every 3 or 4 hours. Except for overnight, don't keep the same pad in for more than 6 hours.
2. If your period is heavy, you'll probably want to stick with pads overnight. I have a few pairs of underwear that have already been stained with blood that I'll wear the last night of my period when there's almost no blood. I'm seriously considering changing to reusable cloth pads at night, so that the area has a chance to breathe.
3. How many you should have with you at any given time depends on how long your planing on being out. Since you don't have a backpack or a purse, if your only running out for a quick errand (less than 30 min), you can probably get away with not having any at all on you. If your going to be gone more than 1/2 an hour, I'd take one just to be on the safe side, even if you've just changed your pad before leaving
4. I keep a handful of pads and an extra pair of underwear in my car and in the backpack that I take when I'm planning on spending the night somewhere at all times. When I have my period, I usually shove another pad or two into the back pocket of my jeans. I use ultra-thins, so two fit without making a huge bulge (considerably smaller than most wallets, for instance).

As a side note, unless you do your own laundry, your mom will know pretty soon. It's unusual to get through a period without getting blood on the towel you dry off with after you bathe. And it's fairly common to get it on the bed-sheets too (even when the pad isn't full - I don't know how it happens, but it does).

Contrary to popular belief, menstral blood will wash out of cloth - I'm sure about cotton, not so sure about other fabrics. ASAP, wash it with cold water and a little soap. If you use hot water, or put it in the dryer, it will stain. But cold water and some soap usually gets it out after a few min.

Congratulations, btw. :)

Well I just want to say first that I've told my mom and it's not a big deal at all and also Congratulations on entering womanhood!LOL! Anyways, Change your pad about every 4 to 5 hours. You can wear them to bed. Carry one or two with them and you can carry a little purse or if they fit in your pocket you can put them there. Also if you wear a big sweatshirt or jacket put them in there.

Ok, ill tell you because I think tampons are icky....

1. I change my pad about every 4 hours. School days, I change it before I leave for school, the middle of the day (noonish) and then when I get home!

2. Uhh, ya, you wear pads 2 bed... do you want it to leak all over your clothes... eww. nasty... lol. Just wear a thicker absorbancy one.

3. Hmmm, id say, carry at least 2 with you, or, take some extra change and leave it in your locker or pocket or somewhere when you know about when your period comes so you could buy one if you needed it.

4. As I said before, if you dont carry a backpack or a purse, take extra change and buy a pad wherever you are when its time to change it!

Hope I helped... and have fun with your period!! Haha, Im so sarcastic... lol...

Yes what she said. You need to start carrying a purse, it will prove to be VERY convienant. And you should tell your mom! I was so excited when I got mine, she was the first person I told. She'll give you some really good tips cause, come on she's been doin this for YEARS! Look into tampons too, they are easier to carry, less noticable, and nice for bed.
hope I helped!

Karen answered Monday January 24 2005, 9:55 pm:
Alright, you should change your pad every 3-6 hours, depending on how heavy or light your flow is. Yup, you should wear them to bed (just change your pad before you go to bed and you'll be fine). You should carry about 2-4 pads with you, just in case. Where do you mean where you can put them like in your house? If you mean that, then you could put them in your closet or in a drawer, underneath everything. These are pretty much your answers that you are looking for but if you need to know anything else, feel free to ask me! Don't forget to mark your calendar so you know when your next period will come. Hope I helped :)
