Walking is awesome for you! Walking for 20 minutes each day can burn somewhere around 100 calories! Maybe you want one of those odometers to keep track of how many miles you walked, that might help (Odometers are available at sports stores)

well, it depends. you would lose more weiht running 20 minutes a day than walking. but if you walk more than 20 minutes it should equal up to 20 minutes of running. good luck!! [H][U][G][S] ~Summer

CheapChineseFood answered Sunday August 29 2004, 6:25 pm:
Well...I figure you're a smart girl, and you do realize that running is more exercise..and cardio and such. But I've been told something once...walking is great if you WALK...power walk will help you lose weight if you do it enough. I'd do it more than 20 minutes a day if you are expecting results. Maybe 40-50? But do as you wish. I wish you the best of luck on your quest to be thinner. But running is extremely good for your body, and tones you everywhere. So if you're considering running, start slow...and get better. You won't regret it. :D

Yep, walking is just as good as running. But, if you would like to lose weight a little more faster, running is better.

Running speeds up your metabolism which causes your bod to break down foods faster. So you can lose weight by walking, it will just take longer.

Walking is just as healthy for you as running. I'm sure if you want twice as much as you would if you ran, you'd lose about the same. Say you run for 20 minutes, walk for 40.

it's not better, but it's still good. I walk monday-Friday, usually I get home from school about 20 minutes before elementary school, so I bring all my stuff home, grab a water bottle, walk my neighborhood, and then go help my neightbors get their kids off the bus, and I know that I've lost weight, because I can see it in my face, so DEFINITLEY, walking is a wonderful way to lose weight!!!!!

^^ I just looked at the reast of your answers, I might haev been wrong about walking being not as good, maybe walking is better, my mistake^^

TucanFullOfHoles answered Sunday August 29 2004, 1:52 pm:
ok heres the deal

if you walk and run the same distance, you burn the about the same amount of calories. running is just faster, so people prefer to do it. they also "feel the burn" that way. so really, if your walking, just go far, not long. running, go far, and you'll go long. hope i helped.

Clairabelle answered Sunday August 29 2004, 1:22 pm:
Walking doesn't burn quite as many calories/minute as running does, however walking can be just as effective as running. Walking is also low impact so it doesn't hurt your knees, ankles, etc. If you walk 20 minutes a day you will see results as long as you eat a healthy diet.

liddylflirtx3 answered Sunday August 29 2004, 1:21 pm:
Walking and running are both really good ways to lose weight. I think you should walk between 30 minutes to an hour each day, and that should equal a good running distance.

If you need some more advice just tell me =)

Oo_FiRefLyZ_oO answered Sunday August 29 2004, 1:03 pm:
actually gym teachers and coaches have told me that walking can make you lose more weight!! The key thing is though: you can't just meander along and drag your feet, you have to hustle. you'll get more tired from running so you can go farther with walking. what can make you lose even MORE weight though is doing short bursts of running and walking. run for 2 minutes, walk for 1 minute, run for 2, walk for 1. do that for about 20 minutes and then just walk. cardio works a lot better than JUST walking or JUST running.
hope this helped!!

yes walking is very good for you! it gets your heart rate going, helps you lose weight, and it really good exercise! walking is just as good as running if you walk pretty far. if you just walk for a few minutes each day then i probably wont do anything for you. but walking is really good for you trust me.

Walking can be even healthier than running - you can do it longer and more consistantly without putting added stress on your joints.

Any exercise program should be discussed with a doctor, but most health experts I've spoken with suggest a moderate aerobic exercise plan - 30 minutes three times a week.

FewAndFarBetween answered Sunday August 29 2004, 12:45 pm:
Walking is better than running.

Experts say that running and/or jogging for long periods of time without walking breaks can end up burning MUSCLE rather than FAT.

But when you're walking, always make sure you do everything right: Keep your back straight (don't slouch), stay relaxed (don't clench up), and keep your strides steady and comfortable.

And just because you're walking doesn't mean you can't end up over-heating or getting exhausted. Always keep a bottle of water with you when exercising.

yes you can lose weight walking 20 minutes a day i really dont think it matters if you run or walk if you do it every day. maybe try a combination of the 2 if you want like run for a couple mins and then walk for a while but walking is very good for you :)

You can walk and still lose weight. I've been walking everyday for at least 30 minutes and have lost some weight since I've started doing it so if you're looking to lose weight then I definitely recommend walking for part of your exercise. I hope this helps!
