What there to say about me? I'm 27 and a graduate of UCSD. Throughout my life most of my close friends have been girls so I have a unique perspective on relationships and sex. I know a lot about computers as well as random stuff in general. Feel free to ask me anything and I'll answer it to the best of my knowledge.

I want to be able to play old Nintendo 64 games from my computer using a game controller adapter. But I'm not very computer-savvy so I'm not really sure what I need/am looking for?

I have N64, Gamecube, PS2, and Wii(includes classic) controllers. Do I need to buy a specific adapter to use one of them? Or do I need a whole new controller in general?

If possible I would like you use an N64 controller since I'm hoping to play old N64 games but I'm willing to compromise.

I have Windows 7 Pro. (link)
Your best bet would be to buy a USB video game controller, because it would be compatible with all systems, and you could map the buttons to whatever system you are playing. The N64 would present a problem in certain games, especially with something like Goldeneye due the Z button...

There are adapters that let you plug the actual controller into your computer, here is one I found:
http://www.amazon.com/May-Flash-Controller-Adapter-Nintendo-64/dp/B002B9FIUU

Here is one for gamecube, PS3, and XBOX:
http://www.amazon.com/Gamecube-XBox-Controller-Adapter-favorite-PC/dp/B000ND3XXA/ref=pd_sim_vg_6

Here is one for N64 and PS2:
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-64-N64-2in1-Controller-Adapter/dp/8565000168

Click around on amazon (or other sites) to find one that has the most systems you want.

hi,
im trying to change my wallpaper (hp mini)and i was told to go to C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper but i dont know what that means? can somebody please help me? (link)
find the picture you want to set as your wallpaper online, right click it, click "set as desktop background." (could be something similar like "set as background" or "set as wallpaper" depending on your operating system and browser)

You could also copy paste the C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper into the address bar (where you type web addresses) and push enter, which will take you to the backgrounds you already have saved on your computer, where you would find an image you like, and again right click it and click "set as desktop background"

what is windows 9 good for? (link)
Windows 9, when it comes out, will be good for replacing Windows 8, which really sucks.

More seriously though... Assuming you meant 8 and accidentally hit 9: What it's good for is touch screens. Microsoft decided to have just one operating system for both computers and smartphones (and tablets I guess.) So it is optimized for touch screens, and that makes using it with a mouse kind of annoying. I've only really played around with it on friend's computers and don't own one that has it, so I don't know how well it does performance or security wise.

A year ago, I blocked Facebook so that I could focus more on school, but I really want to get back on just to keep in touch with people. I installed Facebook Limiter, and that's why I can't get onto Facebook anymore. The program wouldn't let me uninstall, so I deleted all of its folders, but I am still blocked from Facebook. What can I do? (link)
Trying to look stuff up since I've never heard of this particular program. Seems like people are able to get around it by using different web browsers so you could try downloading a new one like Chrome or Firefox.
Normally, you'd want to open the program and there is a button that blocks it, but you deleted it so that might no longer be possible. Deleting program files is generally a bad idea, you want to use the build it uninstaller or the Windows one. You could try downloading the app from their site again, opening it, and seeing if you can disable the lock from within.

Hi all,

Today I bought an "invisible optic" wireless mouse because my old one was having problems. However, as soon as I plugged it in, it does not seem to be working smoothy. (Plug in= bluetooth usb dongle)
It lags and moves very jumpily and whatnot, the same problem that my old mouse had. However, I have a third mouse which is a Logitech M310 and this mouse works perfectly, wherever and whenever.
I checked that there's no bluetooth interference, so why is this brand new mouse having such issues? Any suggestions as to why? Any solutions?
(link)
Did you buy a mouse intended for a laptop and plug it into a desktop? The range on those things is pretty short, so that's one possibility off the top of my head. Also, are you sure it's bluetooth (most wireless mice I've seen aren't) and not another wireless technology? It's possible (though unlikely) that something like a cordless phone would interfere with it. If it is bluetooth, its possible your laptop's built in bluetooth is interfering with the dongle, so try disabling it. It's possible there is something up with your table that is interfering with the laser. Depending on how old your computer is, it might have a USB 1.0 port where the mouse expects a 2.0

Also, you could try going into the mouse settings and messing with the sensitivity to see if you can get it to work better.

Here's something annoying that is driving me nuts. I'm using Firefox on a Windows laptop. Lately it's randomly selecting words to double underline in green or orange. Click the words and you get advertising. Do I have a virus or is something I can turn off? If so how? I've seen other people online bitch about this but none have found answers so I'm putting it out to you guys. Hopefully, you know something. (link)
You have spyware.

Download Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) and Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/) and run them both.

I downloaded google chrome on my laptop but it still says I have internet 8. I already went to the settings to try to make it my browser, but its still not. I don't want internet 8, it was already on there when I got my laptop, but I want google chrome. How do I do it?
(link)
There is no way to get rid of Internet Explorer, it is hardwired into Windows and microsoft makes it next to impossible to remove. You need to set chrome to be your default browser so that anything that uses a browser will use this. Every time you open it, it should ask you if you want to make it your default browser. If not, go into settings or preferences in chrome and try to find it. After that, make sure you are clicking the google chrome icon every time instead of any other shortcuts that were on your computer when you got it.

i want to set up my email straight to my computer but it keeps asking me for a networks password, i thought it was a password for my internet router but i don't have a password for that yet and i share the internet with my family and we still haven'e set it up. it would be a lot easier if i could set it up, and also for my dad because he's not good with the internet and it would really help him. can anyone help me... thank you

- LiseJose (link)
"set up my email straight to my computer" has no meaning. what program are you trying to use? outlook? most likely it is asking you for the password to your email account so it can access it.

i have a spyware called Street Ads Browser Enhancer in my programs. i have tried to uninstall it but it starts to uninstall and then says Au-exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. it wont uninstall the program. can anyone help??

I've had s many infections on my computer even though I have a virus remover program. Should I just get a laptop already? (link)
Download
Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_pro

and

Super Anti-SPyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

They are all free. Install and update them, then reboot your computer in safe mode (press F8 a few times as it is first turning on, a menu should come up) and run all of them. This should nuke that infection as well as any others you have on the computer.

I have high speed internet, and everything loads instantly except for videos. This includes youtube and other websites such as netflix. I am trying to watch a movie, and have been waiting for 30 minutes, and only 4 minutes worth have loaded. This is extremely frustrating and makes me want to throw my computer against the wall. Why is this happening? Everything except for videos loads instantaneously. (link)
Well videos are bigger than say an image... How well do flash games load? What about downloading videos as opposed to just watching them in the browser? Do you use Firefox? Most browsers I can think of have what's called a safemode (no add-ons), boot your browser into that mode and try watching a video. If it works fine, it means you most likely have a bad extension or something, so uninstall them one by one until it works again. You could also try uninstalling and then reinstalling flash (have to uninstall, simply upgrading or just installing a new version won't work) that fixed it for me when I was having issues. You probably also have malware on your computer sapping up bandwidth. Download Spybot and Malwarebytes http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
and scan/clean your computer.

I recently got a TI-89 Titanium and I really like it. The one thing I don't like is that I can't find the y1 variable. On other calculators it is right under the variables key but I don't have one of those. It should just be a y1 that I can enter into programs and such. Any help would be great! thanks (link)
Well on the 89, you can just type y1, presumably the titanium is the same.

My questions are...
1) what I'd the best laptop brand? DON'T SAY DELL OR APPLE. Apple Is to expensive and I don't want a Dell. I like hp laptops but I need experiances with them. I reall want an hp though.

2) what is the bes. Hp laptop that costs under 450.00? Hp ibknow has one but wht is the best one on thief webiste yo get that is under that price?

3) {kindof like question 2} what I the best laptop under 450.00 from the folowing brands?
-hp
-acer
-toshiba
-intell
-Asus
-logitech
I am not sure but as long as it has a WEBCAM AN IS 450.00$ or under.! :)

4) which laptop do YOU recommend ??

Ifyou can answer any of these questions with a good answer I'll rate you...!!! :) please answer seriosly and don't say I am not going to find a good laptop for this amount of money. Just respect what I have asked please. Thanks very much! :) (link)
I've had the best experiences with HP. AS for the best laptop, well the thing is it matters what YOU need and want. At 450, you are definitely gonna be cutting off a lot of frill.
This is the laptop I got for work recently:
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=See+all&v1=series&series_name=G62m_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/notebooks/All_laptop_&_tablet_PC_series/G62m_series

I definitely feel like I got my money's worth, and you can customize it a bit if there is something else you want. There is a webcam, but I haven't used it yet so not sure about the quality. Some general advice though, RAM is the most important spec, get 3 gigs at the very least, 4 if you can. Hard drive space is the least important, because it is the easiest thing to upgrade.

Also, this site: http://www.ebates.com/rf.do?referrerid=CXeN96vYs6Nsvav9M4yZZA%3D%3D
has lots of nice coupons and discounts, the ones for HP tend to be particularly good, if you are willing to wait for a few days for a good coupon to come up, you can save upwards of $300 and get a much better laptop for your budget of $450.

Webcam is decent, nothing to write home about but it gets the job done.

I have a CASIO fx-9750GA PLUS calculator and I want to know if there if there in a option for "!".

OK bare with me. I am copying and pasting the spaces into this so if I miss one some how I am sorry. Ok so I dropped my keyboard today and now my spacebar won't work. It just typeslikethis when I hit the space button. I looked it up and somebody said I'd have to buy a whole new keyboard and to use the on screen keyboard right now. I have 2 questions that relate then:

Where can I buy a new computer keyboard for cheap?

How do I bring up the onscreen keyboard to type online?

THANKYOU (link)
Assuming you have windows
Start > Programs > Accessories > Accessibility > On Screen keyboard

You can probably get a nice cheap keyboard at Target or Walmart, if you want even cheaper try some thrift stores, they're bound to have old ones you can get for a couple of bucks.

Hello, i have been having a problem with the internet on my laptop since we switched to a new ISP.

The internet seems to stop working, and then starts working randomly. Ive rang the company like 10 times, each time they tell me to do something different, and it then works for a bit. However, since last night, it hasnt worked at all- the company has been unable to resolve the issue. The wireless network works on all the other wireless devices in the house, just not my laptop.

The ISP told me that expired Anti-virus protection may block internet access. The thing is, the internet works when connected from the modem to the laptop directly via an Ethernet cable. Also, the desktop computer with usually is connected via ethernet has the same expired anti-virus software (norton 360) on it, and it seems to work fine.

My question is whether wireless internet can stop working just because of expired anti-virus protection?

Thanks in advance folks :) (link)
I've never heard of such a thing. All internet access maybe, but even that's unlikely. It's probably just a problem with your internet/connection settings.

i purchased a new comuter 6/10. 3 weeks after the purchase the comuputer showed signs of issues. i contact customer support tech and they tried to help, then they transf me to a case manager. the case manager reviewed the issues and decided it was the hard drive, that was based on the tech support dempartment. no one at this time had physically came out and viewed the computer. HP placed on line a bid ( which I did not know that is what they were doing at the time) for a bid to come out and install a hard drive. they received the low bid and req the tech to come out to my home and install a hard drive. the hard drive was shipped o/n to my house. the tech came out and installed the hard drive and that was all, he stated he bid on just installing the hard drive and nothing else. so he left. HP also delivered the the recovery disc for the computer that would need to be installed after the hard drive was installed. HP stated I had to install the recovery disc. In an effort of over 8 hours of trying to install the hard drive (they stated normal time for install is 4 hrs) i could not get the installation disc to download. I called HP back and they put out a bid again for a tech to come out to install the recovery disc. Keep in mind no tech has physically looked at the computer to see what it really needed. In my research I discovered the people they send out to the house are just subcontractors that bid on a job. HP does not know anything about their skills or who they are, they do not have to be qualified to bid on a job. I did not know who or what type of person was being sent out to the house or their qualifications, or if they were just out of prison or what.
After this person installed the recovery disc, he also left stating that his bid was only to install the recovery disc. the computer is still not working and i am having issue and it has not been fixed. there is really no way that is can be diagonised until someone physically comes out to look at it. the Warranty states, that if there is any issues, that within 24 hours a new computer will be delivered at the door stip and then the old would be shipped back. I have the in home warranty with full replacement. In order to get the hard drive, when it was first replaced, HP stated it has to come from China and it would take about 2 weeks to get it built. I asked if that was the case, then why would they state in the warranty what they do. They did not have an answer for that. Now they are telling me that they do not have a qualified Tech in Oklahoma to service the comuter and that I need to send it in for repair and it will take about 3 weeks to have it repaired.
The warranty indicated I would have in home repair or next day replacement and that is what I expect. I cannot help it if they do not have a tech in Oklahoma qualified to work on this type of computer. I suggested what they need to do is to build me a new computer, send it to me and then I will send in my computer to them. I have the same type of warranty on my printer and all I had to do was to call HP, then sent out the next day a new printer along with a return label and I then returned my broke printer to them. And then one they sent me broke about 2 weeks later and they did the same thing again. Now they want me to prepay for a new computer, for them to send me a new computer and then when I return mine, they will refund me my 3,500 again. I do not have that kind of money to do that. After all the computer started having issue about 3 weeks into receiving the new one. I have documented trouble ever since that date. Now the Case manager is no longer returning my phone calls. What can be done and what is my responsibility. I cannot get a return phone call from anyone at Case management.
Your help will be very much appreciated.

I have also dealt with HP on multiple occasions, both with my computer, and with fixing computers for others, and my experiences have been nothing but positive, well as positive as talking to tech support can be. I only had to get a replacement once, and aside from having to drive back to my clients house to give HP the exact measurements, it wasn't an issue. Basically, call in and start a new case, only give your case number if they ask for it. Be firm, asking for the replacement saying that they have tried to fix it multiple times and failed. If they ask for the money again, say you are willing to send your computer firsts (a decent compromise).

If you post what problems you are having, people might be able to help, though with these multiple replacements and the recovery probably not.

What did you get for 3,500? I tried customizing the best possible laptop from them, and still didn't quite make it:
http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPProduct.aspx?Prodid=10029570&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|84|56670|28163&N=4017749&Mo=1&pos=5&No=0&Nr=P_CatalogName%3aBC&cat=28163&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC10590-Cat56670&topnav=&model=WN267AV&configno=7def08d1-a269-4f29-802b-5fbb83ff50d2
Note that that price includes softwares that you probably don't need, and the best (well most expensive) version of Windows.

Resetting as in it would delete all of your current documents and programs. Basically the computer would be like when you 1st bought it. (link)
its called system recovery, your computer should have come with a cd for it. if not, installing a new operating system would typically wipe out all documents.

I was looking for someone to add as a friend on facebook, and then I realized that if I went to any of our mutual friends and typed in the name it didn't come up, and it didn't come up in the search. But then I saw a picture she was tagged in then got a link to her profile which showed up. Does that mean she blocked me? I can still see her profile, but I had to click on her name in a picture she was tagged in to do it. (link)
Not showing up on lists I'm not sure, but there is definitely a privacy setting that makes it impossible to search for you. If she blocked you, you would not be able to see her profile at all, and if you somehow clicked on a link to it, it would give you a page cannot be found error.

I have a question for computer people! lol For my 18th birthday my mom wants to get me the dells alienware laptop for gaming? Do you guys out there think that's really a good idea? What's really good about it an what really isn't? =( (link)
Alienware laptops are pretty much more powerful than they need to be. If you plan on doing hardcore gaming, then yeah get one, if not, I wouldn't bother. They are also rather clunky and have high power consumption, so you would often be plugged in.

Keep getting "1780 - Disk0Failure or disk error" and "Non-system or disk error replace and strike any key."

Also 1790 - Disk 0 Error

Does this refer to the floppy drive? Will I be able to boot up if I disconnect the floppy drive?

I have to boot almost a dozen times using F1, F2, Alt Ctrl Delete and turning the computer off and on (Old Compaq Pentium 200) before desktop appears and connecting to ISP. (link)
