Very helpful tool :D
advice
If you wanted to work in a dentists office for a career, is there a special school for that? I don't mean as the doctor herself, I mean as a hygenist, assistant or something. How can you tell which is the best school? Advice?
Yes! I found a site with some good information about the requirements for a dental assistant/hygienist/lab tech along with other useful information. All in all it doesn't take a lot of time to get a certificate and start working. http://www.ada.org/358.aspx
Good luck!
I have this very important exam! It's in just two days! I'm ready of course, but I'm freaking out as well :/ What can I do to simmer down? Thanks!
Take deep breaths. I get the same way. I start freaking out. What works for me is first, I stop studying right before the exam to take time to calm down. For example, if i need to brush up on a few things I will, but stop an hour before the exam to take a walk. Take deep breaths, slow deep breaths. And be confident! If you're ready you KNOW you'll do your best and that all you can ask for. Tell yourself you can do it because you studied and you're ready. Before the test, take some more deep breaths. (Also I find it better to not listen to people talking about facts before an exam because it throws me off my game. Like if I see someone studying something I don't remember. It freaks me out so I've stopped paying attention to it). Also! Have a piece of chocolate! Studies have shown having something sweet before a test gives you better results. I don't know if it's true, but how can you deny that? Haha. Good luck! I know you'll do great :)
When you do a payment plan with a college, do you have to pay fir anything or do they take it out of your financial aid?
You're going to have to be more specific. All colleges are different and have a different set of protocols. My best advice would be to talk to a financial aid adviser. They will know exactly what they offer and if you will have to pay or not. It will give you the best idea.
Typically payment plans on loans have to be paid back. Unless you get a scholarship or a grant, it is likely you will have to pay them back for what they lent you. It's very important to understand the procedure of paying back these loans and making sure you know if you will be able to. Don't take a chance. Many people don't understand their payment plans or borrow more than their means and have a difficult time after college. Don't be one of these people. Ask all your questions from the people at your college. Make sure you know what you're getting yourself into and be safe and smart!
Best of luck.
I did my fafsa a few days ago and I saw my advisor and he told me to register for classes. So I registered for a class and the next day it was dropped. Does that count on transcript? Do I have to wait for my financial aid to come in to register for classes?
If you drop a class before a certain period then it doesn't count on your transcript. Usually there is a period that they allow you to drop with no consequences. I would look that date up. It's often 2 weeks into the quarter/semester.
If your adviser suggested you to register for classes I would do that. You don't want to wait till all the classes you need are filled.
Best of luck!
If you get your financial aid money a week after school starts, how do you get your books and stuff?
First off, I would recommend talking to your financial aid adviser. Every college has a different system and this is a question they probably get often so they will know the answer.
Also, will your financial aid be put directly into your bank account? Or your student account? Often time you get the option to get it directly deposited into your bank account. Because if that is the case then you can simply buy the books now and it won't matter as much because the money will go into your account.
Another option is to buy the books from your university bookstore and wait until you get your financial aid to return them. Our university bookstore has a return period in case students drop a class.
You can also email your professor telling him/her this and see if there is another solution. Sometimes university libraries have the book and you can borrow it.
Like I said, every university is different. See what is the easiest for you and works for you.
Hope that helps!

I am applying for scholarships for my sophomore year of college. I recently filled out my FAFSA form, and I am not receiving enough financial aid to cover my college so this is the first time I have to apply for any.
I am getting ready to right an essay on leadership and how it has affected my life and I need some advice on doing it. I want to right about my mother having Multiple Sclerosis and how I have had to step up to the plate since we found out. I don't want to come off as needy or looking for a charity vote though. I just need some pointers on how to keep it from getting sappy or sounding pathetic.
I also am unsure how to go about writing it. Should it be exactly like papers I do for my classes? Or can it be a little more personal? I guess what I am asking is if it would be okay to say something like this,
"I thought long and hard about what I was going to write this essay about. Leadership has played many roles in my life, but I have learned most about it through the diagnosis of my mother's MS. If anything has taught me leadership skills, it's this."
Or something along those lines. Should I keep it formal and not mention I am writing the essay, or not?
Thanks. Any more pointers are welcome as well! :)
I think it will have a greater affect if it's personal.
I also think that you should include a little bit about what Multiple Sclerosis is. If you don't explain what the symptoms are and what you have to do to help your mother and your family, then the reader will not understand the severity of the situation you were in. If you don't explain why you take the role as a leader in your home, then what you do will seem meaningless. For example, you can mention how "because the symptoms of MS include problems in speech I find that I have to speak for her to get her point across to others."
It might help if you explain how the skills you learned from this experience helped you in other times, for example "the responsability i had to develop helped me perform better in school as I learned how prioritize my time."
I really think it would also be benefical to not have it strictly formal. However, you can keep it from getting sappy by not mentioning too many feeling like it might not be wise to say "even though at the beginning i cried every night becuase the stress was unbearable..." Such a phrase does not contribute to the purpose of your paper, which is your leadership abilities.
Another idea is to say how you acted before the diagnosis. This will show how you have changed.
I would also advise having friends and teacher read it and have them tell you if it's too touchy feely, etc.
Those were soem thoughts I had, I hope they helped a bit. If you need clearification, let me know.
Best of luck on your essay!
When you apply for a job/college/anything, and they ask you your interests, does advicenators count? Could i say im an advice columnist, and maybe show off my average rating?
What do you think? :)
Actually, I don't see why it's a bad idea...
If the qualities you show on this site (being helpful, insightful, etc) are required for your job, then why now show it?
You don't have to include the site name, perhaps say "Advice columnist, answered black questions" and describe what you do on the site.
Hope that helps :)
hey i need an idea for a college esssay
i need my essay to STAND OUT
any advice will really help!
When I was writing my college essay, I heard that writing about something you are passionate about is best. The reason for this is because your passion will show through your words.
In my case, I wrote about my internship where I was the Student Athletic Trainer. I want to be a doctor and I wrote about how helping the players really gave me satisfaction and made me happy. When I had people read it, they always commented about how much it showed, my passion for becoming a doctor.
So I think that's the best thing you can do. Write from you heart. What is something that gets you going? What is your dream job and why is it so important for you to have that as a career? Is there something you want to change strongly?
If you do this, I believe your essay will turn out great. If you need someone to proofread, I can help you there too :)
Hi there, I'm a senior in high school and I'm about to make the first big decision ever, where I want to go to college. I live in San Antonio, Texas and I got accepted to UTSA (in San Antonio) and ASU (in San Angelo about 3 hours away).
I have a scholarship (2,000) to ASU and I have no scholarship at UTSA, but I'm afraid to move 3 hours away from my parents. I'm really stuck between these two choices and I have to make up my mind soon.
So, with that being said.. if you could choose, would you go to UTSA and live with your parents? Or, would you go to ASU and be three hours away from your parents?
Thanks!
Well, first of all, do you need that scolarship badely? Like would it help you out alot or would it not matter? If that scholorship does help, then choose that.
Also, look at the surroundings before you choose. Do you love the location? Which school will help you in your future.
This is a decision only you can really make based on your preferences. I wish i could help, but this is something that only you can decide.
Good luck!

I want to try and get into Yale. I know it's a lot of work. Can someone tell me all the qualifications and stuff?
i couldn't really find it on the website.
also do colleges like that have everything? like if i wanted to do fashion would they have courses on stuff like that?
thanks to anyone who can help!
I'm a junior as well. The best thing I can tell you is to go to your counsler or career center. They can help way more than I can. Plus they will give you better advice, tips, and helpful things for your future.
I just got my ACT results back.. and I got an 18, which is horrible. UGH, why am I so unintelligent? I don't know how to do better, I'm going to take it again when I can, but do people normally do better? Everyone says that you do, but really is that true? How can I prepare for the next time I take it? I'm just so frustrated. Ugh..
Well, I too am a Junior in high school.
Look, the reason people think that everyone passes with the most amasing marks is because the people with the lower or even normal marks don't say anything. So you only end up hearing about those people that get a 30 and not those who get a 20. So, don't think of yourself as dumb, you are normal.
Now, for the studying part. I am Going to take my ACTs soon. What I have been doing it that I got those ACT books. I study from that and do the practice questions.
Be honest with yourself, how much did you actually study/review for the ACT? Because, this test is not like an ordinary test. There are special ways of going about it. All you have to do is review some more and take the practice tests.
DO NOT WORRY. You can take it next year. I know alot of senior that re-took the ACT because they were not satisfied with their score. You can do that too! You will have all summer to work hard to get that higher grade.
GOOD LUCK! If you have any other questions about further study tips, etc. don't be afraid to drop a question in my inbox :)

I was wondering what college level (freshmen, sophomore, junior, senior, other, etc) should someone go?
Because I'm starting as a freshmen starting from Summer 07 and I'm just 16 so it would be really difficult for me to go anywhere since I'm underage. & I know this is a stupid question but how do you apply as an exchange student? Or is it the same as if you were a resident of that country? Can I get a scholorship? Would it have to be from (insert)country or would I have to find an American program which gives scholorships to people studying aborad? Wait..is there even such a thing unsure.gif I personally don't know anyone who has done this, and I have no information of this at all so thanks for putting up with me >___________
yes, i think especially in college you will have to be 18 to go abroad. but talk to the people incharge. explain your siuation and why you want to go. they would be the best ones to go to to answer your question. and they will help you all they can.
do you get to pick and choose your teachers in the beginning, meaning as a freshman?
Yes, i suppose you can. go to a counsler and tell her who you want. they let you most of the time.
OMG so i REALLYYY want to go to one of my top 3 schools: 1. Harvard 2. Yale 3. Stanford

I really want to get into my schools BUT i'm not doing any honors classes, and i'm most likely not going to be valadictorian. I'm in 8th grade and am going to high school in Augest. I don't really care if I don't have a life in high school...as long as i get into my top 1-2 --i really want to go to those. 3-want to go but want to go to top 1-2 more!
please help all advice welcome!
well, let me tell you getting into these selective schools is very difficult. these days, schools like this look at everything. like they wont except you becuase you are valedictorian but they need other proof. they look at grade, ACT and SAT. they look at class rank and having honors or IB/AP classes is very important! if you are considering these schools then talk to your counsler to help you find what are the requirements and what you will have to do. good luck.
i live in connecticut and am a junior in high school. i want to major in business but i dont know what colleges are the best. my gpa is around 3.3ish or 3.2ish and i havent taken the sats yet. i dont do any extracuricular activities or sports... so what are some good colleges that you would recommend? also i dont really want a small college, more so a bigger one. thanks!

I'm not from the states. I don't know your systems and stuff. I want to apply for college in the US, but i have one basic question. What is credits? It's always by course listings? I don't understand...What do they measure? Please help!
credits are a way to measure how many courses you take and their difficulty
you need a certain numbers to graduate and each class has a set amount
i just gave you a quick answer, sorry if it doesn't answer the whole Q
I'm a sophomore at columbine high school. I am planning to go to either csu or cu. I would absolutely love to go to fidm in california, but im not sure about that because of the money. anyways, what are the requirements to apply for a scholarship? like for those schools or just any schools in general? freshman year first semester my gpa was a 3.5 and second semester it was a 3.7. i just ended my first semester and i have a 3.3 or 3.4 i think. i think somewhere i heard you have to have at least a 3.5 all throughout high school to get a good scholarship, which worries me, because a 3.3 or 3.4 is sooo close! is this true? any advice on how to find the requirements like grades wise? i searched their sites but couldnt find what i was looking for. thanks i appreciate it! :D
