I really want to get into my schools BUT i'm not doing any honors classes, and i'm most likely not going to be valadictorian. I'm in 8th grade and am going to high school in Augest. I don't really care if I don't have a life in high school...as long as i get into my top 1-2 --i really want to go to those. 3-want to go but want to go to top 1-2 more!
Your high school career has to focus on having a rigorous academic schedule full of honors and AP classes. You should really have a 4.0, but you can't take blowoff classes. They have to be strictly academic (math, sciences, social studies) classes. just so you know they look at your academic GPA, which is the GPA from only your academic classes (this excludes gym classes and cooking class, etc).
Second, you have to be HIGHLY involved in extra curriculars, both sports and clubs. You should have LEADERSHIP positions in those clubs as well. In addition, you need to do activities outside of school as well, like volunteering at hospitals, shelters and stuff like that.
Third, you need almost perfect SAT/ACT scores, not to mention you have to be a good writer for the essay portions of the college application.
All the people I know who went to those schools took every AP class we offered, had perfect test scores and 4.0's, were president of the biggest clubs at our school, played a sport and instrument, and had won international, national or state math, science, or bio competitions.
I'm not saying it's impossible, but you will have to work VERY hard. These are the best schools in the nation, meaning you have to not just be one of the smartest kids at your school, but in the entire nation.
Also, you should reevaluate your reasoning for wanting to go to these schools? Why these schools? If it's because they are prestigious and you want to impress people, think again. What do you want to do in your life? You should pick the school that offers the best education in your major. If you want to go to a good business school, choose the school that offers the best business program. It doesn't always have to be the greatest school. Not everyone goes to Ivy Leagues and they are doing just fine.

Well, that's what they look for is valedvictorian or a salutorian that takes (ap) advanced placement classes, get's straight A's and is involved in alot of academic curricular activities like being in certain academic clubs. Get on High Honor Roll. I hope you're a freshman or below. The colleges will look at all your high school academic records, classes you took, pass/fail any of them. They also look for a volunteering good, no criminal acts. You could get scholarships for those schools as well as grants. But in the long run if you want to get into a good school, any college could be a great college I used to want to go to and IV League school to. It's harder than it looks on tv, you can't really party, you'll spend 80% of you time studying and if you're a junior or senior your pretty much screwed. I hope you get into and IV League school, but you'll also be spending most of your time after college paying off your student loans. I personally want to go to a University, of which is far from and IV league school but it is a smaller university and the cheapest of all University wisconsin colleges and the professors no you by name and what your in school for, plus you can get one on one attention from the teacher. They also so go to the following site. Richland.uwc.com it has a great campus I toured it about a week or two ago with my classmates and loved it.
Why try to go to a college that has very expectations, you could go to a much better school. IV League Universities are very picky and personally I wouldn't want to be somewhere that don't except me for whom I am...
TheAnnie answered Friday March 14 2008, 10:49 pm: well, let me tell you getting into these selective schools is very difficult. these days, schools like this look at everything. like they wont except you becuase you are valedictorian but they need other proof. they look at grade, ACT and SAT. they look at class rank and having honors or IB/AP classes is very important! if you are considering these schools then talk to your counsler to help you find what are the requirements and what you will have to do. good luck. These schools typically look for grades ABOVE a 4.0 GPA. The way to make your GPA increase, is to do well in your classes, and to take honors classes. You should probably consider enrolling into more advanced classes once you go to high school. Education is just one part of it. The second part of getting into an Ivy League school is the ability to pay for tuition. The typical rates for state universities tend to be about 8,000-10,000 dollars. What if I told you the tuition for an Ivy League school was 40,000? Sure, your parents will probably take out some loans to help you out, and financial aid and grants may or may not be given to you [depending on your parents income and mortgage]. You will probably have to get a job if you plan to attend these schools. [ Sima's advice column | Ask Sima A Question ]
