i have this question about age differences. why is it that there are married people and people dating that are 10 yrs apart, but it's not okay for a 17 yr old to be dating a 21 or 22 yr old?
your technically allowed to date at 16 right?

i need some insight from people.
thanks. =) (link)
At 17 and 22 you are different stages in your life. Just think about the way you were when you were 12 versus they way you think and act now. Totally different, right? At 22, you've probably finished school, gone through stuff and learned from your experiences. It's a stage in your life where you've established who you are and need to find a job and settle down. You're pretty much a "grown up" who has bigger things to worry about, like bills. Life gets more serious.

I don't want to say that teenagers are immature, but really, you have different priorities and interests. At 17, you're either partying it up in high school or college, and not too worried about finding a job yet. Of course, at that age we'd all like to think that we're so mature, invincible, and have led a "tough life", but you will be constantly going through things and learning from them in the coming years.

Now, when you talk about someone 40 vs. 50, they're more on the same level in that they've gone through the same experiences, like the college thing, having a profession, and maybe kids.

Anyways, when you're young, you don't see so much of the problem of dating an older guy, but when you are the older person.. Let me tell you, there is only one reason for a guy to date a young girl. There's always the excuse that she's mature and everything, but nope. Plus, we tend to see guys who date younger girls as creepers/pedophiles lol. Not cool.

im 18 and my boyfriend is 20 years old we've been dating for one and a half month.well,im not sure how the topic about his ex girlfriend of 2 years came up and he said that he misses her we got in this whole big arguement now im not sure,if i should stay with him are not b/c i feel like he shouldnt be missing an ex . (link)
To miss someone is natural, but if you feel that he has intentions of getting back with her, that's when you should be worried. You will care about people in your life even if the relationship is over (with exes and even old friends) because they were once important to you. But like I said, if it sounds like he wishes he could still be with her, then it would be best for you two to separate. If he hasn't moved on, then he isn't ready for another relationship.

I have googled this but I don't really understand the links:

If you are at a party, and you are a minor who is NOT drinking at all, can you still get an MIP even if you have no possession of the alcohol and have not consumed it if others are drinking at the party? (link)
I'm not a drinker, so I'm not exactly sure how it is if you're at home or at a friend's, but it's different in college towns. At msu, and probably the other schools, if you're drinking with people in a dorm, EVEN if you aren't drinking, everyone present wil get written up. If you're at a party, they don't usually bust them unless they're out of control and someone calls the cops. It's inevitable that underage kids are going to drink, so they can't arrest everyone. However, they will arrest you and charge you with an MIP if you're caught peeing in public.

The best thing to do is just stay away from that kinda stuff to avoid an MIP.

It seems like I am the luckiest girl ever. I got my period for the first time in may of 2007, and for the past year or so, I have not had any obvious PMS. My mother says that I have not been grumpy ( except for the occasional random bad day), I dont get cramps, breakouts or feel extra tired. The only difference is I gain a few pounds and want to snuggle a lot.
is something wrong? Is this unhealthy hormone stuff or something?
gah! (link)
Nope, there's nothing wrong with you. Symptoms vary among women. Some women get horrible cramps, others get none at all. We all have different symptoms (weight gain, increased or decreased sex drive, larger breasts, fatigue). We're all different! However, this doesn't mean that your symptoms will change in a few years.

I never had any major symptoms during the first five years of my period. Not until recently did I start getting minor cramps and weight gain. So, this may change in a few years since your body will still be developing.

I'm 16 and like in cook county Illinois. In the last month I've gotten two speeding tickets. One was 58 in a 35, and the other was 48 in a 30. I have court October 3rd and 7th. Does anyone have any advice on how to fight these, or a smart way to go about handling these tickets. (link)
Are you talking about going to court to contest the tickets? In your case, you shouldn't try to contest it. You definitely don't want to "fight" the judge. They'll show no mercy to people who are arrogant. They like to see people who are sorry, but don't even try to fake it because they'll see right through you. They see almost a hundred people a day.

Anyways, the only people who really win when they contest a ticket are those who didn't go that much over the limit, like 5 over. In your case, you were going way over the speed limit.

If I were you, I'd just pay what I owe. The best thing you can do is immediately pay off your fines once you are ticketed so they don't go up, instead of putting it off and ending up paying a ridiculous amount of money. Make sure you stop speeding so it doesn't happen again!!! Speeding tickets are a stupid waste of money that can easily be avoided. Hopefully you've learned something from this.

ok im 14 and female.
im 170 pounds and kinda short.
so i wanna lose a lot of weight. i've come up with a food plan tell me what you think:

breakfast- about 15 grapes
(no snack because im at school and we cant eat until lunch)
lunch- wheat bread with ham cheese and mayo,
130 calories worth of raisins,
100 calorie cheeto bag and
100 calorie bag of chocolate cookies

snack when i get home: a large pretzel stick and a few pieces of colby jack cheese

dinner: salad with low fat ranch dressing.

and this is it. any suggestions or tips for me? do i need any revisation?
i dont really work out because i have a crap load of homework when i get home then i go to sleep at nine and wake up at 6.

though, i do walk really fast from getting to one school to the other and up and downstairs.

help?? (link)
I completely disagree with your diet plan. You're eating only 25% of the recommended daily caloric intake (which is roughly 2000 calories, more if you are active), so you'll pretty much be what we call anorexic. If you begin eating like this, expect to be anemic, not getting your period, having brittle nails and hair, feeling fatigued all the time, and fainting all over the place.

You may have cut down on calories, but you certainly aren't eating healthy. You definitely HAVE to cut out the junk food (mayo, cheetos, cookies), regardless of how many calories are in it. Plus, you aren't getting any nutrients, especially from these processed food. Eat more vegetables and fruits instead.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Think of you body as a car. If you put some fuel in it, then it will run efficiently. Food is energy, or fuel. You should eat a high-carb, low fat breakfast. I doubt some grapes get you through the day. Grab a bagel, english muffin, orange juice and a piece of fruit. For lunch, the sandwich is fine, but put some lettuce and tomatoes in it, or other veggies, and have a bag of carrot sticks, celery or other chopped veggies too. The salad is acceptable for dinner, but maybe eat it with grilled chicken. Make sure you're getting meat in your diet.

Anyways, fiber bars and protein shakes aren't bad for you, but they aren't diet foods either. They certainly won't do anything for you if you aren't exercising.

I don't think you should keep a food journal unless you do a very poor job of eating in the first place. It already looks like you're overanalyzing this calorie-counting. Which is insane. I eat about 2200 calories a day, but of HEALTHY foods, plus I exercise 4-5 days a week. You can't lose weight just by doing one or the other (eating healthy or exercising); you must do BOTH to achieve results. Any kind of activity you can get is good, but if you don't get your heart rate up and break a sweat, then it won't make any significant changes.

--------------------------------------

Look, I don't understand why you're being so hostile. The subject of your question is "What do you think?", and you ask for suggestions and tips. You sought an opinion and I gave you one, and I'm obviously looking out for your health here. If you've eaten like this for a month and it's working, then what's your point even coming on this site and asking? Five pounds per week is nothing to be proud of because it isn't healthy, either. Finally, I'm not the obese fourteen-year-old. It's up to you whether you value my opinion or not, but let me inform you that I AM A PERSONAL TRAINER. So you can "put that in your juice box and suck it". Thank you.

In the biggest loser
i heard that jilian michaels[[The trainer]] was fat?

is it true? (link)
Yes, she used to be. This is what Wikipedia says:

"She began her career in exercise because she was considerably overweight before her teenage years (although not to the same extent as the contestants she whips into shape now). As a young adult, her mother enrolled her in a martial arts class, which was a new beginning for Jillian. Thereafter she dedicated herself to helping the overweight transform their lives and their bodies for the better."

I was in a discussion with my best friend about depression. We were listing things that cause people to become depressed and then we got to depressed celebrities. One of the major depressed celebrities today is Britney Spears. Britney Spears has filled so many tabloids up with her depression fits lately.

My best friend suggested that Britney Spears is not really depressed. She said that Britney Spears gained some weight because her career died down and she stopped keeping track of herself, and that Britney Spears has only claimed to be depressed for better publicity. Her reasons for not believing that Britney Spears is really depressed were basically that she has money, fame/popularity, relatively good looks, and a family.

My question is do you really think that Britney Spears, or anyone in her situation, could really be depressed? Maybe I am just missing out on what depression actually is but I think my friend has a point. Britney Spears couldn't ask for a better life--how can she REALLY be depressed? Keep in mind that I am not only referring to Britney Spears--she is just the one who comes to mind in this given situation. (link)
Yes, I do think she is. Depression is one of the most common and fastest growing sicknesses in America. I believe anyone in her situation would be as well. It takes a lot of self control to not say something back when you are attacked.

You know when you make a mistake and your parents are upset with you? Imagine that, but the entire WORLD broadcasts it. Everyone has an opinion. You can't do a single thing without it being in the tabloids. Even leaving your house is a hassle because you are constantly being followed by cameras and reporters.

I don't think you know what the paparazzi is REALLY like. They purposely upset celebrities to get a rise out of them, get a picture, and write a story (which may not even be about what she really was upset about). At one time, they blocked Britney's car in so she couldn't get out for TWO HOURS. You keep that up long enough, of course you'd get angry.. any normal person would. They literally pester you with words and very personal, inappropriate information so they can put in the papers how "Britney blew up" etc. They're trying to pass laws between the paparazzi and celebrities now, called the "Britney Law".

Anyways, I don't think she even wants anymore publicity in the first place. Publicity ruined her life in the first place. In my opinion, people seriously need to leave her alone and focus on their OWN lives.

Plus, having material goods does not equal happiness AT ALL. If you aren't stable in the inside, then everything around you can fall apart.

how do you tell your hair dresser you want wispy ends, they don't seem to understand the phrase, its like a pixie-cut's ends, like its all wispy. i don't know how else to put it and to describe it, any help will do. (link)
Tell them you want your hair "thinned" and they'll know what you're talking about. This means that they either take thinning scissors to the ends after the cut is finished, or they will use regular scissors, but cut vertically into the ends. Another way of saying it is to "take the weight off the ends".

Getting your hair to be wispy is just a matter of styling, but you do need your hair thinned to get it like that.

You should bring in a picture of what you mean. We all have different thoughts when it comes to things. Like if you said you wanted your hair brown.. everyone has different views when it comes to brown, since there are so many shades of it. You might want a chestnut brown but they give you mahogany.

I just started college last week, and I already have written one short paper. I am a fairly good writer when it comes to expressing my thoughts and ideas, but I would like to have someone proofread my paper(s) occasionally, such as when I have a large one with a big chunk of my grade in jeopardy. Does anyone know a site that can connect me to people who will do this for free (I tried to google this matter, but I didn't exactly find anything). Or would anyone on this site be willing to help? Haha. It might seem far fetched, but I figured it was worth a shot. (link)
I've never heard of a free proofreading site, and frankly, I wouldn't trust them either. Someone could upload your essay onto those "Free Essays" sites, and even though it was originally YOUR essay, the college search engines will find it and fail you for plagiarism. I've never heard of this actually happening, but it's highly possible.

Anyways, I'm almost sure that there are writing help centers on your campus, or at least tutoring offices. My school has like five writing help centers. Even thought it's not like you need help, they'll read it.

Also, don't be afraid to ask your teacher or TA. Most of the time, if you give your teacher a draft (leaving a lot of time before it's due, obviously), he/she will read it for you. Now, your teacher won't go through with a red marker and correct your mechanical errors, but will give you insight to whether or not you are on topic, if your paper lacks in content, etc.

You should also try to make friends in your class and set up a study group. Even if it's just one friend, just find someone you can trade papers with peer-edit. Even ask your roommate!

I wish I could help you personally, but I'm a college student too lol.

Good luck!

Basically, I'm one of those people that rarely straighten their hair (only on special occasions) so I decided to come here for help.

Anyway, in 2 weeks I'm going to party. I was wondering should I straighten my hair on the day of the party, or do it the night before?

My hair is really annoying because it gets greasy real fast, obviously overnight isn't enough to make it completely greasy but sometimes it'll lose shine and volume.

Obviously I'm leaning towards to doing it on the day, but what do you think I should do? (link)
You really shouldn't wash, dry and straighten all in the same day, unless you don't care about killing your hair. If you have to wash it the same day you straighten it, skip the blowdryer and let your hair air dry. You hair can't take that much heat. Plus, what most people don't know, you have to take really good care of your hair when it's completely wet out of the shower, because that's when it's most vulnerable.

Anyways, if your hair is super super greasy, then wash it early in the day, let it air dry, then iron it. However, the best thing to do is straighten hair when it's a little greasy. The oils in your hair serve as a natural moisture sealant. I see a lot of girls walking around with dry, crusty straightened hair. You shouldn't wash your hair everyday anyways. That's not enough time for your scalp to get moisturized. Even if you have greasy hair, look into buying a different kind of shampoo.

What I would do if I were you is wash my hair the day before, then straighten it the day of the party. The oils in your hair also weigh your hair down a bit, which keeps it straight.

What is the Three 6 Mafia? I've heard the phrase, "Three 6 Mafia" from a few people. Is it a new gang or some type of new mafia? I can't figure out what Three 6 Mafia could mean!

I thought at first it was a game for the Nintendo Wii since I also saw the words on a free game cheats website, but when I searched the it as a game nothing showed up so I figure I was totally wrong!

So, sorry if it's a dumb question! I just was wondering what Three 6 Mafia was or what it meant! (link)
It's just a rap group. Their new song is called "Lolli lolli (pop that body)" which you've probably heard. Their last album had the songs "Poppin My Collar" and "Stay Fly".

Can you help me? Have you seen this before? Have you had any or all of these symptomns? I am very confused and I am very afraid of what the docc might say...

IM me at ashleymarie854 if you need more infooo (via AIM)
(link)
I don't know if you're expecting me to say you have a sickness, but it really sounds like this is happening because you aren't eating enough or properly. I get those symptoms when I don't eat enough or if I don't get enough iron (red meat).

Try eating healthy, well-balanced meals, and try not to stray below the 2000 calorie/day mark. Also, make sure you're getting enough sleep (about 8 hours), but don't overdo or go too much under that. Try this, and if you don't see a change, feel free to msg me.

My belly button was pierced just yesterday. It was fine yesterday, but today its red & swollen, but worst of all...around the hole, its black.
So I'm preeetttyyy sure its infected. What should I do?!?! (link)
It's supposed to be swollen and tender. If there is pus secreting and it's a color other than white (like greenish), then that's a sign of infection.. but I'm no doctor.

Don't take it out because the hole will close up and seal the infection under your skin. Leave the ring in and hopefully you cleaned it properly. Don't overclean it!!

Go back to where you got it pierced, or go to your doctor. If you go to the piercer, all they can identify if an infection is present. The rest is taken care of by a doctor who will prescribe medication and further care.

I dye my hair by the box. My hair is a natural Dirty Blond. However, whenever I dye my hair..after about two weeks the color starts fading to a reddish color. ALWAYS. No matter which color I try to dye it. Its happened with Blond, Brown, Black, any color, you name it, it'll turn red after a little while. What can I do to make it not turn red? (link)
You have to buy dye with ash tones (ie. Medium Ash Brown). Ash tones minimize the red. If you look on the back of the box, sometimes they have a scale from warm to cool. Ash tones are on the cool end of the scale.

You also want to use shampoos that are strictly for your hair color, or ones that deposit a little bit of color in it as you shampoo. Like John Frieda's brilliant brunette, or any other ones like that.

I wouldn't use shampoos that are general and say "For colored hair", because they don't always bring out the color you want. I used to have highlights, but when I died my hair dark brown/black and used a shampoo that said "for colored hair" instead of "for brown hair", my highlights began to come through again, which wasn't what I intended.

Know that even if you dye your hair over, the previous color will always resurface at some point, so you will eventually have to redye it.

I'm Nakhle From Lebanon.I'm always sad, always sitting on the Internet doing nuthin but eating, chatting and surfing the net.I Feel Like This world doesn't react with me.My problem is That i never had a true life,I'm so empty, running away from pple,or should i say i get closer from people that always Throw me away,& never be loyal 2me the way i'm being loyal 2 everyone.as a summary,i'm living hopeless,no social life,no nuthing, future seems hard, difficult,& painy 4 me..I never met a person such me,I can't take it anymore.I feel Like 1day I'm Goin 2 explode all the anger the sadness and the pain inside me.
So help me My Friends.Thx in Advance. (link)
Hi Nakhle,

I feel like that too sometimes. The first thing you need to do is get off the computer!! Little things like sitting outside will make a big difference. Go to the park, library, or take a walk. Exercise is a very good way to make yourself feel better. Joining a club, sport, or volunteering is a good way of meeting new people.

You won't meet other people like yourself if you don't get out. Don't be afraid to go somewhere new. It will bring adventure to your life.

Take care!

so if my friends and i were to seran wrap or post-it note someone's car, thats not illegal is it? because it's not vandalizing property? anything we could get in trouble for by law? (link)
Yes, that's still considered vandalism, which is a crime that you will get in trouble with the law. I'm not sure of the consequences because it's different depending on which state you live in.

Now, if this is a friend of yours and you're just playing a prank, then maybe his/her parents may understand and won't press charges. However, if this is your idea of getting revenge on someone, think again. You're committing a crime here. Where I'm from, you can be fined up to $500 and it goes on your record. You might even get a restraining order if they file one.

Well when i get up and get ready in the morning i always well i think i look nice then i go in other rooms and chek in diffrent lightings and mirrors but my face always look diffrent in each like i get uglier and uglier. then i get depressed..Whitch one do i believe.
i have 1 with a really bright white light with a zoomed in mirror. 1 with an orangy light and the mirror look normal. 1 kind of zoomed in but small mirror with are really dim orangy light and wunn BIG mirror thats very zoomed in with a normal light yu use on lamps.
whitch wun do i believe? (link)
Everyone looks bad in white or fluorescent lighting!! Especially if it's an upclose mirror, you can see all of your flaws!! Anyways, you shouldn't be looking at yourself so close because it's not like anyone gets that close to your face when they talk to you.

If anything, what you see in any of the mirrors you listed is not what you really look like. If you want to see yourself how others see you, don't look in an up-close mirror. Natural sunlight is the best lighting. So, look at yourself in a large mirror during daytime, and stand back.

Okay i'm going into eleventh grade, and I feel like I should sorta kinda know what im gonna do as a career, or at least how to start off in college or something. So as some background info, I have ALWAYS wanted to do something with medicine. And children. Like pediatrician. But then, as I got older I started thinking about school, and the pressure of being a doctor and everything. So I started leaning towards child psychologist. I have always been very interested in understanding the development and thinking of the child. But on the other hand I really really want to HELP children, and I've heard that pyschologists can't really do that. So im thinking, is there anything else sort of like this that I can do that doesnt even have anything to do with medicine, but just helping children, like mentoring as a job? thanks
(link)
To be a doctor, you have to be one of the most intelligent and competitive people around. If you aren't amazing at sciences, chemistry, bio, etc, then you won't even have a chance. So much time and money is invested, and the sad part is, even if you make it to med school, only like 5% actually become doctors.

This is my personal opinion, but doctors don't really help people. I mean, they do in a sense, but you don't get that one-on-one interaction that I believe you are looking for.

Mentoring is the perfect way of helping and getting in touch with kids. Unfortunately, this isn't a profession. It's a non-paid volunteering thing you do on your own time. You can still do it, but you won't get any money for it. Consider non-profit, local organizations in your community. I would ask a counselor or go to the library for more information, but what I can think of for now is maybe joining the peace corps, world relief, or maybe being a motivational speaker.

Some jobs I can think of that deal with people would be a social worker, counselor, coach or teacher.

As for a psychologist, I don't really think they help that much either. Although, there are MANY types of psychologists and approaches, so it really depends on what kind of psychologist you choose to be and what type of environment you choose to work in (hospital, school, company, private practice). Most therapists just sit there and listen, but don't offer any advice. That's kind of what they are there for though, just someone to talk to and not pass much judgment.

I will be a junior in high school this year (public school), and apparently this is a big year for applying to and visiting colleges. My problem is I have no idea what I want to do. And I have been told I should think about what I want to do before deciding on colleges.
I have had a 4.0 both freshman and sophomore years, and I am taking 2 honors classes in hopes of raising that higher than a 4. I will be taking German IV honors this year... I went on an exchange trip to Germany and hosted a German student this year, and loved it. I definitely want to go back to Germany and am seriously considering studying abroad and maybe even living there when I'm older. I plan to be near fluent by the time I graduate high school.
I really don't know much about college or studying abroad in general, because whenever the topic comes up I get scared even thinking of that 'chapter of my life' and can't talk about it.
Do you think I would be able to study abroad in Germany before going to college? I would love to go there for a year. I'm just really confused about this whole college thing... but I know studying abroad in Germany would definitely make me happy. (link)
I'm not sure if you were aware that you could do this, but many people study abroad while in college. Usually they go their junior or sometimes senior year of college. You will go to a university there and your credits and grades will transfer; it's just the scenery that will change.

Just make sure that the college you choose has Germany on their list of study abroad locations. Some schools don't even have the option of studying overseas. It's usually the bigger schools that have that option.

By the way, don't freak out if you don't know what to do. 2/3 of my freshman class went in without a declared major. Anyways, you don't even have to declare a major until your junior year. Plus, there are a lot of all-university requirements, which are classes that everyone has to take, regardless of major. You get those prerequisites out of the way first, and you don't really get to take the classes relating to your major of study until your junior year.

Either way, the average student swaps majors about five times before sticking to one. So don't even worry about it. Shop around and see what it is you actually like doing.

Since you really like Germany and consider living there, are you good at teaching? You could teach English at a German school, or even work at an international school there (which makes a lot of money). English teachers are in high demand, not just in Germany, but in pretty much all countries.

Good luck!
