Question Posted Friday September 12 2008, 12:47 am
I'm 16 and like in cook county Illinois. In the last month I've gotten two speeding tickets. One was 58 in a 35, and the other was 48 in a 30. I have court October 3rd and 7th. Does anyone have any advice on how to fight these, or a smart way to go about handling these tickets.
The only thing you can do is say sorry and take your punishment. If you try to fight them, the judge might try to take away your license or have you pay an even higher fund.

You definitely don't want to "fight" the judge. They'll show no mercy to people who are arrogant. They like to see people who are sorry, but don't even try to fake it because they'll see right through you. They see almost a hundred people a day.
Anyways, the only people who really win when they contest a ticket are those who didn't go that much over the limit, like 5 over. In your case, you were going way over the speed limit.
If I were you, I'd just pay what I owe. The best thing you can do is immediately pay off your fines once you are ticketed so they don't go up, instead of putting it off and ending up paying a ridiculous amount of money. Make sure you stop speeding so it doesn't happen again!!! Speeding tickets are a stupid waste of money that can easily be avoided. Hopefully you've learned something from this. polite. You could easily loose your license
if you get to many tickets. Don't give the
judge an excuse for doing that this time. [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]

So fighting them is not the smart idea.
The smart idea is take the fine the judge hands you. (You have to admit you earned them.).
The smartest thing you can do is SLOW DOWN.
30 mph and 35 mph posted speed limits are for a reason. Most likely because going faster puts people at risk of being run over in the road.
Be wise behind the wheel, OK?
I've made mistakes and been in car accidents. You don't want that, I promise. Speeding puts you at high risk of being in an accident.
