Can somebody please tell me about an legit online job that you know about I'm 18 and I want one so bad so please help! Thanks in advance! (link)
|
I'm afraid there aren't many.
Normal jobs online include things like doing surveys, etc. The thing is though, you get paid $0.00016 per survey. It is impossible to make anything big. That time spent can be used to look for an actual job.
What you can do, is write articles for blogs. Even this is not well paid, but it's something. Find something you enjoy, e.g. fashion. Start your own blog, and write a lot. Then look for bigger blogs that are hiring writers. Sometimes, they may pay you. When I say pay you, I mean around $20-40 MAX per blog entry that they use.
You could also start a twitter account that attracts loads of followers. After you have thousands, you could do sponsored tweets. You get paid to do advertisements by twitter. Again, this depends on the number of followers, whether they are real, and what kind of account you have. You could get paid anywhere from $5 to $500 per tweet.
But none of these really give you anything substantial. You could of course start your own online business, or sell stuff. But this is really hard, especially if you have other things going on.
But yes, generally, it's not really possible to make enough money online.

can you work any where over the age of 50 (link)
|
You can work wherever you are able to. It's illegal pretty much everywhere in the developed world to discriminate against someone because of their age.
But of course if a job required heavy manual labor and your body is unable to handle that, then it wouldn't be worth applying and it would be reasonable for an employer to ask if you would be okay with that.
But yes, you are able to do any job, at any age.

Hello, I'm studying in England and doing Psychology and Criminology. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life but I knew I loved Psychology and I thought Criminology would be interesting and good to add to it.
Anyway, in the first year we had a counselling class and I rather enjoyed it, but now I don't do any counselling classes, just basic Psychology and the foundations to Criminology. I was planning on being a therapist, getting a Masters in Psychology etc etc, but now I see I don't have a counselling class any more, is that going to cause me a problem?
I think I can swap over easily enough because the first year didn't count for anything apprently, and since Psychology is my core subject they don't mind (unlike Criminology where I wouldn't have any common knowledge) Somebody who maybe is in the field, or understands how jobs work could you please help?
Thank you x (link)

Hello,
Adviceman49 has hit the nail on the head really. I can't add much to it. But here are a couple things you can do:
- I'm from England too. Try popping in to your local connexions centre if you have one. Either that, or see your careers adviser. 'Next step' is the name of the service for 19+. It's just like connexions, and I have to say, they have been SO useful and friendly towards me. Even when you're down, they're willing to spend hours with you to help you, and make a plan.
- Check http://www.prospects.ac.uk/ . It's a great website about university study, careers, etc.
Good luck!

What is your question?
|
|
I need help getting references for my job applications. I have only worked 3 jobs. I have no references anymore because I lost old contact information and it's been a long time since I have spoken to any of my former employees. What should I use for references? (link)
|
You can use teachers, and previous employers.
All you need is the contact details of an employer, and their name. A phone number should suffice.
You could give them a call if you find out other information. Try google for business names and numbers.
Like I said, you can also use teachers.
If all that fails, then you just have to explain that to the employer. You could do charity work/voluntary work/work experience to get references.

I love to write scripts and create movies and do costume designs ,make soundtracks and all but what steps can I take to get into the film making business? (link)
|
Hello.
I don't really want to rain on your parade, but I think I should explain what working as a director is like:
You get paid for each piece of work. So if you have no work, you have no money.
You cannot just become an actor. You usually have to work your way up (I'll explain how, below).
Don't expect to be the next Steven Spielberg or Quentin Tarantino - Very few directors make Hollywood blockbusters.
Your best option to become a director would be to somehow get your foot in the film making industry. Here are some suggestions:
Try and get a basic, remedial job at a movie/tv station. Even if it is getting peoples coffee. When higher jobs come up, apply for them. It's also a good way to make contacts.
Consider work experience at such places (i.e. working for free) because the competition for paid work will be fierce.
Show your commitment to the area of film making, by taking part in community theater, school theater, make short films for friends/family/youtube.
Act where you can: school plays, local theaters. Work behind the scenes too, even if it's curtain pulling.
For direct entry routes, you could go to drama/theater/art schools. There are many, but you will have to check on google or ask around because I don't know what part of the world you are from.
In regards to writing scrips, you should write and publish as much as you can. If you have actor friends, ask if they will act it out. Record it (even if it's just with basic equipment), and pop it on youtube.
Contume design is different. You need a high level of design skill and creative vision. You may need to go to college: and again, there are schools for this. You can also start as a wardrobe assistant on a set or at a theater, and work your way up. Either way, create a wide portfolio. Record models wearing your clothes, on a makeshift catwalk. Again, student theater, local and community theater, casual work are all options to get your foot in the door.
What I think would be a good idea is, read a book that has not been made into a movie you have seen. Then, imagine what the costume will be. Then design, and make the costume. Don't just stick to a niche: mix around with Elizabethan and Futuristic, and such.
In short: get as much experience as you can, and turn your ideas into reality.
I hope I didn't dampen your spirits: I just wanted to be realistic with you because the competition in that particular sector is very strong.
Good luck for the future! :)

Hello! I am going to be eighteen in about a week and I was wondering if there are any online jobs that require writing and working at home. I've tried looking for some myself, but most of them are fake or require that I pay them money-- which I find rather stupid. I need money with all the things coming up for college and trips. So if you know any reliable sites in which they offer online jobs, some that maybe require writing or even taking surveys, is fine by me! Or maybe help me get started on searching? Please and thank you! (link)
|
There really are not online, easy, jobs such as surveys that pay well. It's usually like $0.014 per survey etc, and you really wouldn't want to risk it.
You can do certain jobs from home though. Tele-sales is a basic job, which involves cold-calling people and selling them something over the phone. You could go to an agency, ask around or find offices/shops that sell things, e.g. windows, doors, insurance, or more commonly, magazine advertisement space. The latter is usually a good, common starter job for someone young like you.
Also, some blogs (big ones) are often looking for contributing writers. They sometimes pay, but they don't write that on the advert. So find some big blogs that interest you, and ask if they have a contribution scheme, whereby you can submit articles that you have written. Let them tell you whether it is paid: don't ask them straight up. Also, be sure it is something you enjoy writing about and researching, as you will need to contribute regularly. Even this, the biggest blogs may even offer you $30 a months if you submit a certain number of articles/posts *that they actually use*.
I have to say though, that it may be difficult to find a job at your age. Elder, more experienced people are being made redundant from their jobs, and these are more favorable to the employer.
Good luck though!
|
|
i am being sincere i havent worked for like 2 1/2 years but the reason for that is because ive been at home taking care of my dayughter and im having a hard time with the employers cause it seems like it bothers them when i tell them i havent worked for that long should i lie to them (link)
|
You definitely should not lie to them. If you tell them that you've been working, they will ask for references, and call them to make sure.
Your best option is to keep on trying. Be honest, but don't be negative. Be sure to emphasize that *now*, your home commitments are not as important as then. You don't want them to think that you will leave, or not be so interested because you have other commitments.
If you are in the position to do so, you could volunteer, or do some work experience. You will not get paid, but you can at least get back into the work place, which will help when people are looking to employ you. Even if it is for an hour a week, it will help.
But not everyone is in a position to work for free.
Just keep at it. Be honest, but fair, and brag about the skills you do have, rather than shining a light on what you lack.
Good luck! :)

So I was on twitter and I saw someone that I follow (who I don't know personally) posted this website and how it works and they got money out of it. I was just wondering if you guys have ever tried this or do you think its a scam? Here is the website. http://mylikes.com/l/1u94b . Its about making money online. Does anyone know any legit websites that actually do work and where you can make money online ?
-thanks
Katie (link)
|
Its clearly a scam. I went onto it, and miraculously, it refers to my home town a million times.
Most twitter accounts that tweet links like that are actually just spam accounts. They follow hundreds of people, hoping a percentage of them will follow back. They then tweet the link and make it sound real e.g. "Hey @flare ! Was good to see you yday, this is the link! www.nonsensewebsitenamehere.com check it out quick !"
There are some questionnaires you can do online, that helps with market research etc, but the money you earn is like $0.001, and so not really worth it to be honest.
Hope I helped :)

Sometimes when Im at home, I cant see anything for a few seconds and then I can see again. It happens a lot everyday. Its been happening for a while and its gotten worse. I cant see anything but the dark for a few seconds. what is this?
sometimes when I stand up I loose all vision and get light headed. I do wear contacts. Why do I go blind sometimes?
Sometimes i got blind for a few seconds, like ill stand up and ill get this weird feeling in my head and i wont be able to see for about a second or two.
I get dizzy, cand black dots start to appear everywhere & then my ears start ringing & everything goes dark (link)

it's probably because of the lenses. When was the last time you changed them? In any case, going to your ophthalmologist would be a good idea. Or perhaps a physician too.

I re-applied for job seekers allowance in mid november and noticed I had no money. I then received a letter asking me for details about somewhere I once worked. I sent off the form the very next day and then received a letter saying they had increased my allowance by around £2.
However I have had no payment all through December and it is now the new year so it is coming up to quite some weeks now. The office in Birkenhead has been closed most of the time I have called them so I have not been able to contact them about the issue.
My mum expects rent, I need new clothes. My sign on day has been moved to 9th January as would have signed on Boxing day but it is classed as a public holiday.
I have reached my overdraft limit also as it is a student one and they will not change it until I can present them with a passport (they cost most of my allowance). Does the bank have some involvement? As it is a student one it is an interest free overdraft as I chose the lowest amount for my own sake.
I also owe my partner some money also as he pretty much paid for his own gift for Christmas thanks to this problem.
I do not know to to go about solving this, any advice would be nice. (link)
|
Hello! Most of the users of this site are American. Being British (and a former JSA claimant) I may be of some use.
Now, have you had your first sign on date? If not, it can take anywhere up to 2 weeks to process a new claim. Then from this, you need to sign on. When you go to sign on, it will take 3 working days to get paid. E.g. if your sign on day is monday, you will get paid thursday. If you get paid on a friday however, you will not get paid until wednesday.
This christmas + new years etc doesn't help. All the bank holidays obviously will mean no-one will process your claim, and when they return to work, there will be a large backlog, especially from people who have lost jobs after christmas temp jobs or whatever.
I think what you should now, is to ring the job centre. When they gave you your little booklet, there will most probably be a sticker on it with a bunch of numbers. I think you need to call 'benefits enquiries'. They are now open as per usual now that bank holidays etc are over, and so ring today! Keep in mind that they will keep you on hold for a long time. DO NOT HANG UP! I've done this, and its even worse the second time! So ring up and ask whats happening with your claim. You will need your national insurance number, and your other information.
If you can't find the number, use the below link to find your local office, and call them:
http://los.direct.gov.uk/default.aspx?type=2&lang=en
or use: 0800 055 6688 which is the number for benefit claims.
Also, make sure that you stick to it, and if they say "ring tomorrow" for whatever reason, get up at 8 and be sure you're on the phone by 8.30.
The reason they probably asked for your last job was probably to check how much national insurance you paid. I won't get into the complexities, but theres 2 types of JSA, one contribution based, and another one which I cant remember. you were probably under contributions based. But I don't know, thats not really relevant.
In regards to your bank, you can't be sure if its the bank problem. When you ring the jobcentre line, they will say whether you have been paid etc. If they say you have been paid, ask why you haven't recieved your money. If they suggest its the banks fault, ring them straight away and see.
Your interest rate will depend solely on your bank and account type. Your best bet is to go on the banks website, search for your account type, and see the interest rates.
Also keep in mind it is against the law for a bank to take overdraft fee's out of your benefits. It won't stop the bank however. When you notice this though (if they do charge), head over to your jobcentre and ask them for a letter from them, to your bank saying that they must pay you the overdraft fee back. This is a letter stamped and authorised by the jobcentre, and then go to your bank with your card, ID etc.
So heres my advice in short:
1. contact the job centre
2. see what they say, and call the bank if needed
3. stick to it, ring back, and don't hang up when on hold
4. check what interest rates your bank will charge you
5. get a certified letter from the jobcentre saying that the bank cannot charge you fee's from your benefits.
In reference to the last point, remember that they cant take money from your JSA. When you put money into your account in another form though, It will be withdrawn.
Hope I helped, and good luck with this situation + the job hunt! :)

I have been looking forever for a good acting coach could you please find me one? I always wanted to be a actress on disney channel! (link)
|
How can anyone on this website, possibly find you an acting coach?
1. We dont know where you live. We could assume you're in New York or London when actually you may just be in Mongolia.
2. Even if we did know where you live, would it not be better if you found an acting coach? For yourself? Because you are the best judge of what/who is best for you?
3. Why don't you google it, or check in a phone book?

Hello, I recently attended a job fair at my university. A radio station was there and they were displaying job openings for a promotions assistant. I am only a freshman, with a major in Public Relations and I really want this job. I talked to the woman at the desk and she told me to "apply online". Of course, I did just that immediately when I got home . While I was talking to her, I asked her for the name of someone there that I could try and reach. A day or two after my application, I called and spoke with the name of the man she told me. We talked for a short time and he asked for my contact information and told me he'd contact me when they started doing interviews. After we got off the phone, I typed him a formal letter and sent it to the radio station (which is 30 minutes away from where I live) so I'm assuming he got it. I called him and sent the letter on Friday, September 9th and it is now September 14th and I have no received a phone call from him. I realize it has not been very long, But I plan on taking another action. Would it be better if I went to the station and try to contact him directly? Or should I call again? How long should I wait? I really want this job, but I have no experience in the field but I am totally willing to learn and put much effort into this. (link)
|
I think to be honest, you may have done too much already. There's a fine line between being enthusiastic and just hassling them. So you've already sent the letter, which I wouldn't have done. But its done already. Now, don't do anything. Wait for them to contact you, and that space is usually 2 weeks. If you don't hear anything after then, give them a call. If of course they told you "if we don't contact you, you weren't successful", then there is no point in contacting them. But don't come off too needy and desperate, because they may not hire you for that reason alone.
So just wait, and keep cool. Good luck, Hope I helped :)

Now that Thanksgiving has passed and most companies have their employees for the holidays. When will they be hiring again?? (link)
|
well companies hire all the time. The Times when a lot of companies hire is usually:
1. just after the summer, as many employees (especially younger ones) may be leaving the town/city/state for college/university
2. for the Holidays, usually around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Many companies may hire during smaller holidays. For example, a jewellers and restaurants may hire heavily around valentines. Bars may hire heavily around spring break, or St Patrick's day. Your best bet is just to have a few resumes to hand, and spend a day asking companies if they are hiring and handing them out.
Hope i helped :)

Well basically, I'm 19 and living in Australia, and I want to move to Florida to work and be with someone so I was wondering if there are any places around there that would actually sponser me and pay for me to go there so I can work? Of course i'd be working with whoever sponsered me, I have certificate 1 business and my certificates in RSA and RSG and I'm looking for a job pretty much anywhere but you know, it's best to go with whatever job i'm i have certificates to do(office/admin/bartender, etc) so can anyone help me with that? (link)
|
to the best of my knowledge, companies will only support you if they are DESPERATE for you to work with them.
Like my friends aunty, lived in asia, and she was litterelly a rocket scientist, and a university was desperate for her to be a professor at one of the best universities in the UK, so they paid for her to come over, her living accomodation for a year, and training.
So i doubt that they will unless you are extremely desirable as an employee. I could be wrong however. Hope i helped :)

I am applying for a job at clothing store, and on the application it asks why I am applying for this position. The honest answer is because I need the money, but I know you're not supposed to say that on applications. So what should I say instead? Thank you. (link)

if its a big, nationwide famous store, say that its "well established" and you want to "build up on your customer service experience". Thats what i usually put. Seems to work Hope i helped :)

I am very good at "proof-reading" written material. I did this in college for a few friends and, eventually, when I became an English tutor. I know that people have many people look over their writing before having it published so I was curious if there was a way to actually become someone that does that for a living. What would the job-title be and how would I find something along that line of work? (link)
|
i googled "becoming a proofreader", suprisingly, there were lots of results. This one seemed good:
http://www.ineedsomespace.com/money/money_advice/freelance/money_free_06.html
i think its called freelancing? that what alot of the results show up?
Also, an editor? Thats what they do right? proofreading? Hope i helped :)

I recently started looking into becoming a marine biologist, but my grades in math and bio aren't that good. Plus i'm not that fond of being away from home for months on end. I also dont think i could handle being a vet because I couldnt have the heart to put animals to sleep etc..
So what would be a good job for me that has to do with helping all types of animals?
(link)
|
Hey!
well there are plenty of jobs available to you :)
I also love working with animals and a few years ago i found this website very useful (however i'm not sure how good it is now)
http://www.workwithanimals.com/
You could help train dogs, my sister helps to train dogs for the blind!
I've always wanted to work in a zoo :) all those animals would be so much fun.
Charity work is also a good way to start... they can help put you in place for another job.
Since i have far too much time on my hands here's a list for you!
Working in a pet shop
Animal assisted therapist
Animal photographer
Farm manager
Dog groomer
hopefully some of this helped... you know where i am if you need more! xxx

I love to organize. I get this weird little thrill out of it. =]
Are there any careers that you know of out there focused on organizing? Where you could organize rooms and such as an actual job? (link)
| |
Hey I'm the same! Well...recently I've been thinking the same thing. The two jobs that first come to mind would be architecture and accounting. With architecture as designing and organizing rooms and buildings, and accounting as organizing and analyzing data. I hope that gave you some idea?
