Do not, I repeat do NOT mention having young children at all. Although jobs are not supposed to discriminate, employers are quick to pass up on a mother with children. I know this first hand. They assume that if your child becomes ill or has appointments you will be calling in a lot. What you need to do is put the company name in bold and not the dates. You could also take out the months if for instance you worked until February of 2010 just put 2010. For the time gap you could add a "volunteer position or research project that relates to the job you are applying". For example if you are applying for a teaching position say that you were researching adolescent interpersonal relationships. Honestly in this economy 2 1/2 years is not a significant time of unemployment. I'm hesitant to believe that is the real issue. I wonder if they gather your work gap is due to having children because as I stated sharing that information is a sure way to not get hired. Good luck and hang in there.

In the first box for past employment put; date last employment ended to present date, under discription write homemaker. Under reason for leaving. Child/children now old enough for me to renter the work force. Then complete the rest of the wok history portion.

No, you should not lie to them. You should tell them the truth: You left the workplace to care for your young child.

Many women (and some men) find themselves needing to re-enter the workplace after taking time off to care for young children. It's understood and expected. The thing that will make employees iffy about you is if you act like there was something wrong with what you did.

You definitely should not lie to them. If you tell them that you've been working, they will ask for references, and call them to make sure.

Your best option is to keep on trying. Be honest, but don't be negative. Be sure to emphasize that *now*, your home commitments are not as important as then. You don't want them to think that you will leave, or not be so interested because you have other commitments.

If you are in the position to do so, you could volunteer, or do some work experience. You will not get paid, but you can at least get back into the work place, which will help when people are looking to employ you. Even if it is for an hour a week, it will help.

But not everyone is in a position to work for free.

Just keep at it. Be honest, but fair, and brag about the skills you do have, rather than shining a light on what you lack.

Good luck! :)
