I am applying for a job at clothing store, and on the application it asks why I am applying for this position. The honest answer is because I need the money, but I know you're not supposed to say that on applications. So what should I say instead? Thank you.
orphans answered Saturday March 27 2010, 7:03 am: if its a big, nationwide famous store, say that its "well established" and you want to "build up on your customer service experience". Thats what i usually put. Seems to work Hope i helped :) [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]

i think i will be best for the job because i think i can make a difference in this company. i am a hard-working person who will make sure the job gets done.
write something like that, they will love it im sure!!
ncblondie answered Monday August 1 2005, 10:35 pm: Put that you like fashion, enjoy helping people pick out clothing, or that you're looking for experience in the sales.
Generally at an interview they'll ask you again why you applied. Other common questions I've been asked and also asked while I was a manager myself include:
Why should we hire you?
Why do you want to work here?
What are your goals?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
Tell me about yourself.
What are your strengths?
What are your weaknesses?
What do you consider your greatest achievement so far and why?
Define sucess.
Do you work well in a high-paced setting?
If an angry customer came in, how would you handle them?
twistedsister17 answered Monday August 1 2005, 9:37 pm: You should say that you are interested in helping customers buying clothing. Maybe that you enjoy fashion, and that you like to (depending on what you want to do) provide help for the customers, make sure things are organized, yadda yadda yadda. Good luck! FunnyCide answered Monday August 1 2005, 9:25 pm: On the application where it asks why you're applying, say something like, "For the experience," or "Because I thoroughly enjoy the idea of assisting others at purchasing clothing.." or something like that. They might ask you the same things (similar) in the interview that they did on the application. They'll probably ask why you want that job, any previous experience. I'm not sure exactly cause' I don't know where you're applying... but nothing too hard. Be honest, friendly, and well groomed. Haha. =) Good luck!

LlYySsAa answered Monday August 1 2005, 9:24 pm: Just say that you like the stores clothing and that you want to work there. Hope this helps!!!
TennisGirl2213 answered Monday August 1 2005, 9:21 pm: Well, even though this is lying, you should say, I love shopping here, the clothing is great! orr you could be honest and say that you need the money...
You should expect anything from what are your grades in school to, well why you want the job. If you do lie on the application, it's harder to hide the truth.
