While I am still young, I have had a great deal of life experience. It is from this that I give advice. I am open minded and try not to be judgemental. If I can help in any way, I will. Just ask. However, like everyone else in this world, I am not perfect. My advice may not always suit you, since my experiences are not the same as yours. If you want clarification on any answers I give, feel free to ask me. If you don't like what I said, or if I offended you, let me know. This is the best way for me to improve on my responses.

My period is a few weeks late. I've been stressing out because I haven't gotten it. I am a virgin, but I never missed my period before. Does anyone know how much underweight you should be to skip or have a late period?? I'm in the 5'7-5'9 height range & I'm between 118-120 lbs. The thing is, a year ago I weighed approximately 158 lbs. I've gotten my period every time though, so I'm not sure why I'd skip it now. I get random cramps & ovary pain, but not my period. Also, a few weeks ago I had brown spotting but it stopped after a few hours. Do you think its because I'm underweight?? I have a doctor's appointment, but not until September. Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks!!

I don't think you are underweight enough to skip a period, though you really do need to look at your diet and see why you are underweight because it seems you are heading towards health problems if you don't stop the loss now.
Anyway, missing periods can be caused by all sorts of things. I was chronically late. Actually still am. Turns out I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Had I talked to my doctor sooner, I wouldn't have had to go through surgery and everything just to stop the pain.
I am not saying this is the cause of your problem. Teens often have irregular cycles. Stress can cause skipped periods, as can diet and exercise changes.
Even though it is normal for a teen to miss a period here and there, it is still something you will want to ask your doctor, since you already have an appointment. Whenever you already have an appointment, you should bring up all the concerns you have, no matter how petty they may seem. Sometimes a bunch of small problems are really symptoms of one big problem and only your doctor will really be able to put it all together. Your doctor is getting paid to take care of you. There is no reason to not tell him or her that you are having a problem, even if it is something that you are told is normal. (of course, if you didn't have an appointment, I'd tell you to wait and see if it happens again, then call a doctor for an opinion. But you are already going and already paying the doctor, so bring it up!)

hey my hair iss SOOOOO straight and i hate it
i really want it curly like miley cyrus
or vanessa anne hudgens

like me and my mom try everything like curling irons and roll ons, but my curls come out in a matter of minutes

so i asked my mom about a perm, she didnt say no but i can tell she is trying to talk me out of it she keeps on saying "that was a thing back in the 80's and it doesnt even curl your hair it basically just crimps it and makes it weird and kinky"

but for some reason i still REALLY REALLY want to get it so should i? is what my mom says true?
helpp

If you get a perm, get it professionally done. A stylist can make it to the look you want (instead of the tight kinky curls you will likely get doing it at home), but you have to be specific. Bring pictures of what you want to look like.
However, I don't recommend it. It dries out your hair and can make it really frizzy. And if your hair won't hold a curl, the perm will likely not last very long either, which would mean a waste of your time and money.
Perhaps you can do something interesting with your hair that will make you love it straight, instead of damaging it with a perm you might regret. Check out this google link for straight hairstyles: http://tinyurl.com/ynts9k
Also, even though your hair is straight, you might benefit from a book I love. It is called Curly Girl, by Lorraine Massey. Look for it at your library. You might be able to coax some curls out of your hair. You will also find ways to keep it healthier, which is a huge benefit if you do decide to get a perm.

I got my belly button pierced on the 11th and everything is cool its not green or anything and ive been cleaning it all the time with this thing called "Bactine" its a first aid liquid thats kills germs and its like for cuts and stuff so yeah the thing is that its starting to scab around the top but its like dry puss i think its call like a yellow guwwy thing and it doesnt hurt or anything i can sleep on my belly since i gotten it i just wanna know if its ok?

When I got my nipple pierced it did the same thing. Just clean it off. If it doesn't hurt or show other signs of infection (is it red around the edges?), then it is ok. Just a natural body reaction that helps keep it clean.
If it does show signs of infection, see a doctor.

Does it bother a guy if he tries to finger a girl, and there's discharge in her underwear?

By the time he is getting to that point, there should be some discharge. If not, he's not doing it right :)
Really, discharge, unless related to a health problem, is normal and needed for lubrication. Yes, we even need lubrication when we aren't having sex. It prevents dry itchiness. During sexual contact, even fingering, it prevents friction and irritation. If a guy is bothered, he may have his own issues to deal with.

ok i have this huge bruise on my thigh and its huge, really, its like about 4 inches by 3 inches and its really ugly. well heres my problem. i cant wear shorts or anything until its gone! so is there any way i can get rid of it quicker? ill try anything, please help!

Try epsom salts in a compress. There are directions on the package of epsom salts. You can get them nearly anywhere and it is cheap. Or, try Aspercreme or something similar. It is for muscle pain, but can also help with bruises.
If you really want to wear shorts and it hasn't healed yet, try makeup. If it is primarily blue, use makeup with an orange tint. Purple? Use a yellow tint. Cover it with the recommended colors, then cover again with something that is close to your skin tone.
Or try capris. Long enough to cover the thighs, short enough to be comfy in warm weather and show off nice calves.

Lately I've been getting nauseas every morning when I wake up, and then later a headache follows. Is there anything I should see the doctor about?

That sounds a lot like how I feel when I am getting migraines. It also happens when I am extra stressed. If it continues, or gets really bothersome, see your doctor.

about a week before my period i started not feeling the greatest, i can still live a normal life but i ust dont feel 100%, im also getting a lot of clear vaginal discharge, a lot. is this all like normal? and is this like pms or something different

This is totally normal.
If it does start to interfere with normal life, like getting a lot of pain or seriously moody (not just a little moody that you can get past easily), talk to your doctor. That could be pmdd, which is a severe form of pms.
Otherwise, take some midol (good stuff, helps bring you closer to normal), get some rest when you need it, be active when you feel you can, and drink plenty of water. Yes, drinking water will help. It seems counter-productive when bloating, but it will actually help relieve it. And have some dark chocolate. There have been studies showing it can boost moods and help with pms. (of course, there are studies that show anything you want them to show, but who can argue with a study that says chocolate is good for you?)
If at any time you feel like something is really wrong, it can't hurt to see a doctor.

My friend found a bump under her arm near her armpit. It went away after a week and a half, but I'm still worried for her. Could this be serious?

If it went away, it is likely not serious. Did she by any chance have a cold or other illness recently? There are lymph nodes all over the body, including under the arm near the armpit. These can swell during an illness. With a sore throat or other head cold, for instance, there will probably be swollen lymph nodes in the neck. A chest cold or other minor infection can swell the ones under the arms.
If the lump comes back, it is worth checking out. If not, don't worry about it. But do ask about it at the next regular check-up just to be certain.

14/f
5'6"
123 pounds

alright so i used to be able to fight off all my craving but then i went to my dads house and ate like a disgusting pig. i lost like 7 pounds this summer and then i gained like two back. so how do i fight off cravings?

First, at 5'6", 123 pounds is a good weight. So, don't worry about that.
Next, think about what you are craving. Is it sugary foods? Fattening foods? What do the foods have in common. Cravings usually tell you that you are lacking something. Eat a healthy alternative to what you are wanting. For instance, if you are craving sweets, curb the craving with fruit.
Another cause for cravings can be feelings. Do you have cravings at certain times (I get some odd cravings when I get my period, so that is something to consider)? What do you think brings them on? Perhaps try keeping track of your cravings. Write down what you want, what time of day it happens, and what you are thinking or feeling at that time. See if there is a pattern. Then, do something to break that pattern. How to do that will mainly depend on what the pattern is.
Also keep in mind that at your age, you are still growing. Your cravings could be due to trying to manage your weight when you are already at a healthy weight. Your body is saying that you should go ahead and eat. Just remember to eat healthfully instead of junk and your body will likely level out soon. Also make sure your diet has a lot of variety. If you typically eat the same foods all the time, you could be having cravings due to a need for different nutrients or even just different tastes. Try something new the next few times you are having cravings. Perhaps that will help change the pattern.

I have school in exactly 16 days. I want a workout.. I've been slacking in exercising because I run outside (not a lot, but like 2-3 times a week) and its been really rainy and sucky lately, so I didn't wanna go out. If I can't run tomorrow, what are other fun workouts I can do for my arms, thighs, stomach, and butt? also, if this is possible, how can I exercise my calves? and other than that, like what foods should I be eating, how much candy/fatty foods should I eat regularly, and how many times a day, when in a day.. how much water should I drink (Usually I drink about 2-4 glasses a day, unless I'm doing a sport) and etc. by the way I'm a 13 year old girl... and THANKS for helping! =]

Try belly dancing. It is fun and works just about everything. I think you can even find some videos online. If not, well, put on some music and fake it.
As for your calves, find a low step or curb and put your toes on it. Lower your heels to the lower level. Then stand on your toes. Repeat as desired.
Fatty food and candy should not be eaten regularly. As a small treat every few days is fine. Once a week is better. You should drink eight 8 ounce cups of water per day. Especially as an active young person.
You should be eating whole grains, proteins, fruits and veggies, and dairy. As for how much, at your age you should just eat as you need to. As long as you limit fats and sugars, you should be fine to eat when you are hungry. Instead of 3 big meals a day, try 5 or 6 smaller meals. Make sure you have a lot of variety. Having Cheerios for breakfast, a ham sandwich at lunch, and pizza for dinner every day will not be good for you. Try new foods, have as many different things throughout the week as you can, and you will be in great shape.
These things will keep you healthy and fit, no matter what your age.

School starts in a couple weeks but i want to plan my first day back to school outfit soon. I really want to make a good impression but im not sure what to wear. Im pretty preppy. I love matching things together like headbands and stuff. I love looking cute because it just makes me feel better about myself. Im not sure excalty what i should wear. Any suggestions?

Well, it sounds like you really know yourself and your style. You already have a head start on making a good impression. Knowing what you like, and being sure of yourself, will give you confidence and that always makes a good impression.
That said, choose a color and style that highlights your favorite feature. Do you have brilliant blue eyes that you love? Wear a blue top and headband and use an eyeshadow that brings out that lovely color. Long legs? Wear a skirt or shorts and a wedge heel. Or, just wear your favorite colors in something comfortable. With your attitude, you really can't go wrong.

I know that probably doesn't help much, but I tried :)

wut exactly is fafsa?how often do i receive money? and do pay it back?

Fafsa is Free Application For Student Aid. You get money every semester if you are approved for grants, loans, etc.
And yes, you do have to pay it back, as well as interest. The sooner the better. You can get deferments, which allow you to put the payments on hold, but they are a pain to get. At least, in my experience, I got a huge runaround that took long enough for my loans to go into default. Now, nearly 10 years later, they are threatening to garnish my wages, seize bank accounts, etc.
I HIGHLY recommend looking first for scholarships. You don't have to pay those back. Take the lowest amount of loans you will need. Save money to be able to pay them back. Do NOT let the loans go into default. If you can't pay them back soon, get a deferment as soon as possible. Don't put it off. It will take a while to get, and you don't want to end up where I did.
In short, if you get a loan, remember that you are responsible for it. It will not go away unless you pay it (or become a teacher. Teachers don't pay the loans back until they stop teaching. If they retire from teaching, they never pay it back. I think military gets a break too). Bankruptcy won't get rid of it either. Loans can be very useful, covering tuition and even housing and food. But they can really hurt too. Make sure you know what you are getting into before you take a loan.
You can find a lot of info on the official page here: www.fafsa.ed.gov/
You can find info on repayment here: http://tinyurl.com/2cch83
A school counselor can also help you understand financial aid options better. I can't stress enough that you know what you are applying for before you apply.
Good luck, and enjoy college!

My hair is reaaally weird.
The top to about the bottom of my ear if pretty curly and then from my ear down, it starts getting wavy. And usually at the tips, it gets really straight. It's weird. I've tried scrunching and ive tried cutting my hair to see if that makes a difference, but it still does the same thing. Does anyone have ideas?

Curly hair can get weird. For some, it is curly on the bottom and straight at the top. For others, it is like yours.
I am going to guess you have damaged hair, which can make it straighten out.
I just answered a question from someone who regularly straightens her hair. I recommended a book that I love. It is called Curly Girl, by Lorraine Massey. It tells how to care for, cut, color, wash, dry, and style curly hair. It is an amazing book. You should be able to find it at your local library. I found it about a month and a half ago. My hair went from slightly wavy to cute and curly very quickly, without use of chemicals. It has never felt healthier either. I live in the desert, so it is hard to avoid damage. But now, I know all the little tricks and they are so easy. I can't begin to describe them all here.
However, to start (this is advice I gave in the other question too. Lots of curly girls today it seems), if your hair is dry on the ends it will likely straighten or frizz. To get more moisture, rub some olive oil into your hair, cover with plastic wrap, and leave for an hour. Rinse thoroughly. Add some lemon juice to your usual conditioner and use this to wash your hair. Yes, wash with conditioner. Curly hair is more porous and the stuff in shampoo can be hard on it. It will cause frizzies and straightening. Rinse lightly, leaving a bit of conditioner in. To dry, scrunch your hair in a towel. Don't rub or twist. Just scrunch it like an accordion toward the top of your head. Next, put some gel in your palms, rub together, then scrunch it into your hair as you did when you were drying. How your hair looks wet at this point is how it will look when it dries. Doing this regularly will encourage your curls and make your hair feel great.
Now, go find that book at the library to see what you think.

Okay So I Am No Way Skinny. Or anything close to it. im under 200 pounds. not sure how much under. probably around 170. ugh i know. so i want to know how much weight would you think i could lose in 9 months? just an estimate.

and what are some ways to do so..
like please give specific excersizes and stuff like that.

thanks in advance.

I am a trainer at a fitness center. This October I will be teaching a weight management class. Since January, I have dropped from 186.5 to 161.5 and stayed healthy doing so. In 9 months, you could easily do the same, if not more. Here is what I recommend:
First, get support. Having friends and family pushing you will keep you motivated.
Second, balance your workout. You need cardio to get your heart rate up to a good fat burning level (70% of max heart rate); strength training to build lean muscle (not bulky muscle, so stay away from serious weight lifting - light is ok), which raises metabolism; warm up to get your muscles ready; cool down to get back to normal and avoid strain from suddenly stopping; and end with a stretch to lengthen and retain muscle mass. Do this every other day. On the other days, focus only on cardio (take a walk, go dancing, go for a swim, etc.)
Third, balance your diet. Are you carbohydrate resistant? Many people are. I am not saying to cut out carbs. That is unhealthy. When I did it, I got irritable bowel syndrome. Sure, I lost weight, but I felt horrible. You need to limit your carbs. What you do have of them should be whole grains. These take longer to digest, keeping you full longer. They also have more nutrients, keeping you healthier. Eat your fruits and vegetables. The deeper the green or orange, the better it is for you. Have a balanced breakfast with one serving of whole grains, some protein, and some fruits or veggies. That will jump-start your metabolism for the day. Eat 5 times a day, once every 3-4 hours. Avoid junk (but treat yourself to a small treat every few days to keep motivated).
Fourth, keep track of what you are doing so you know what is working and what isn't. I found a great website that helps: http://www.thedailyplate.com You can keep track of what you eat and what activities you do.
Now, here is the basic calorie count for the diet plan that I will be teaching: Week one: 1200 calories; Week two: 1600 - continuing until you reach your goal, get sick of dieting, or stop losing; Final: 2000-2500 calories, dieting for no more than 2 days at a time as needed to maintain your weight. No more than 30% of the calories should be from carbs, 45% from protein.
First time I followed this plan, I lost 15 lbs in 6 weeks.
Good luck!

i straightned my hair nearly every day(am kinda of obsessed! Well i use GHD straightners and solutions and there supposed to be quite good but i still just get split-ends and all that kind of stuff, i keep cutting them off but i would like to grow it out now.
I then decided to get my hair chemically straightned but its quite expensive!
I know the answer to stop my hair from drying and stuff is to stop, but i can't!
Is there any recipies or shampoo's i can buy or make to help my hair.
(shampoo's i can buy in the uk)

I did just the opposite as a teen. I permed and lightened my hair. It was bad. I had dry frizzy hair. Chemicals are really bad for hair, even if they are high quality.
What is it about curls you don't like? Curly hair can be very nice. In fact, I am doing what I can to encourage my natural curls. I think that the first thing you want to figure out is why you are so intent on straightening your hair. If you think about it for a while, and decide that you really want it to be straight and not give your natural curls a chance, you should put in the expense to have it professionally done. They will be able to advise you on how to care for it better. And it really isn't that expensive when you consider the amount you put into the method you've been using.
If you decide to give your curls a chance, try a book called Curly Girl. It has some great tips. Heck, get it anyway. There are some great recipes for hair repair in it. Even if you keep your hair straight, there are wonderful, chemical free treatments to re moisturize your hair. It is a great book.
In the meantime, try this:
Get some olive oil and cover your hair in it (if you have scented essential oil that you like, add a few drops to the oil to make your hair smell nice. I like lavender). Wrap your hair with plastic wrap and leave it for about an hour. Get in the shower and rinse thoroughly. Do NOT shampoo. The shampoo will get rid of all the oil, making the treatment useless. Mix the juice of one lemon in with your conditioner and wash your hair with that. Rinse lightly, allowing some of the conditioner to remain. This will help your hair.
Because you have curly hair, it is more porous and more susceptible to damage. Try avoiding shampoo most of the time. You can get your hair very clean using conditioner, and it will help keep you from having so much damage.

Good luck!

when you give a guy a hj i know it works better w/ lube, but what of you go to give him a bj afterwards, wouldnt the lube taste nasty?

Yes, most do taste bad. Even the flavored stuff isn't too great. You know what makes a decent lube, at least if you are doing oral after? Saliva. Lick your hands, or his penis, seductively then go on with the hj. It sounds odd, but it works. However, it will absorb into the skin easier, so you will have to re-wet every so often.

lately me and my girlfriend have tried to have sex my "member" is about 10 inches and whenever i put it in her it kinda hurts me when i start thrusting but she is orgasming like crazy after we are finished she is completely satisfied but my "member" is hurting sure im satisfied too but it just hurts for a while

Well, I would start with oral sex. This will get you closer, so you won't be in her as long. Since she is not having any trouble reaching orgasm, less time in her won't be a problem for her.
Next, use more lubricant. Sounds like you may have a friction problem. Start out slow, don't penetrate completely for a bit. She will relax, loosening up and making more room for you.
If you still have pain after sex after a while of trying these things (give it a while. She may just be too tight for you, but time and more sex will loosen things up a bit), you may want to check with a doctor. My opinion is that if you have pain you shouldn't be having and you have tried all you can, it can't hurt to see a doctor. If something is wrong, you'll know. If there is nothing wrong, you will be reassured.

does anyone ever get a swollen ball-like thing under their chin indicating they're sick?

Yes. That is actually a lymph-node. I'm guessing you are getting a cold, possibly a sinus infection. Lymph-nodes swell when a part of the body near them gets sick. You have them in a lot of parts of your body. Their function is to filter bacteria, which is why they swell when you are sick. You can find out more here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lymph_node
Now, go drink plenty of water or juice high in vitamin c, get some rest, maybe take some cold medicine. That will help your body flush everything out.

is sleeping in a room with computers turned on bad?

No. Unless they are being noisy or the monitors are on and making the room brighter. Then, they can interfere with your sleep, which isn't good. But otherwise, there is no harm in it.

I just got a job at McDonalds. I am required to wear slip-resistant shoes. I have a few pairs of Etnies and other various skate shoes, that say they have a slip-resistant sole. Would those work?

If the sole has any sort of tread, it should be fine. If it is completely flat, like most dress shoes, it is not. Now, I don't know if McDonald's requires you to wear dressier shoes with slip-resistant soles (they are not too hard to find. I highly recommend the brand Merrill's), but many places do. I'd check with a manager to see if you need a certain style. If not, what you have will be just fine.
