hey my hair iss SOOOOO straight and i hate it
i really want it curly like miley cyrus
or vanessa anne hudgens
like me and my mom try everything like curling irons and roll ons, but my curls come out in a matter of minutes
so i asked my mom about a perm, she didnt say no but i can tell she is trying to talk me out of it she keeps on saying "that was a thing back in the 80's and it doesnt even curl your hair it basically just crimps it and makes it weird and kinky"
but for some reason i still REALLY REALLY want to get it so should i? is what my mom says true?
helpp

In other words, you're not going to look like orphan Annie if you don't want to. There are curlers that will just make your hair wavy (like the girls you mentioned) with no actual curls at all. You can get your hair to look any way you want. I think that you should get one. Just talk to the stylist beforehand and make sure that he/she uses the right curlers! Let the stylist know what you want. Bring pictures! Good luck. :) [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]
blwinteler answered Thursday August 30 2007, 12:00 pm: If you get a perm, get it professionally done. A stylist can make it to the look you want (instead of the tight kinky curls you will likely get doing it at home), but you have to be specific. Bring pictures of what you want to look like.
However, I don't recommend it. It dries out your hair and can make it really frizzy. And if your hair won't hold a curl, the perm will likely not last very long either, which would mean a waste of your time and money.
Perhaps you can do something interesting with your hair that will make you love it straight, instead of damaging it with a perm you might regret. Check out this google link for straight hairstyles: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
Also, even though your hair is straight, you might benefit from a book I love. It is called Curly Girl, by Lorraine Massey. Look for it at your library. You might be able to coax some curls out of your hair. You will also find ways to keep it healthier, which is a huge benefit if you do decide to get a perm. Volleyball2150 answered Thursday August 30 2007, 11:50 am: Try putting hairspray in your hair before you curl it, but don't put it on the entire head at once... just spray 1 section of hair, then quickly curl it. Or you can put volumizing gel in 1 section, the quickly curl it. Then once a section is done, quickly spray it with hairspray (again).
If that doesn't work for you, then I would suggest going to a hairdresser and telling them your problem. They will give you tips and show you products that can make it work. Then they will actually do it to your hair. You can even ask them what a perm looks like, like a picture, and then decide if you still want to do it. If you feel confident enough, then go for it!
ductape_n_roses answered Thursday August 30 2007, 11:49 am: Well, my sister got a perm.
And when you get a perm, your hairs going to be a lot more curlier than Miley Cyrus's. Hers is more like a loose curl? And perms make it really curly.
Not to mention that it kills your hair texture. My sister's hair is really dry and frizzy looking.
So you might want to hold off on getting a perm for now.
MaggieMaclean answered Thursday August 30 2007, 8:33 am: Well there are a few solutions you could choose from. You could just try using volumizing shampoos. Then in a few weeks if the volumizers don't work go to a hair dresser and see what they suggest for you. If all else fails ..get the perm!
