does anyone ever get a swollen ball-like thing under their chin indicating they're sick?

Yes. That is actually a lymph-node. I'm guessing you are getting a cold, possibly a sinus infection. Lymph-nodes swell when a part of the body near them gets sick. You have them in a lot of parts of your body. Their function is to filter bacteria, which is why they swell when you are sick. You can find out more here:

Now, go drink plenty of water or juice high in vitamin c, get some rest, maybe take some cold medicine. That will help your body flush everything out.
