I'm guessing that the computers having screen savers turned on, and so the flashing lights would disrupt your sleep and make it so that you could never truly get to sleep, the same with sleeping with the tv on.
Overall, I think that you should turn off the computers when you go to sleep.

And having your computer on all night will cause the motherboard to die, so you should always turn your computer off when you're done with it.
