My hair is reaaally weird.
The top to about the bottom of my ear if pretty curly and then from my ear down, it starts getting wavy. And usually at the tips, it gets really straight. It's weird. I've tried scrunching and ive tried cutting my hair to see if that makes a difference, but it still does the same thing. Does anyone have ideas?

For others, it is like yours.
I am going to guess you have damaged hair, which can make it straighten out.
I just answered a question from someone who regularly straightens her hair. I recommended a book that I love. It is called Curly Girl, by Lorraine Massey. It tells how to care for, cut, color, wash, dry, and style curly hair. It is an amazing book. You should be able to find it at your local library. I found it about a month and a half ago. My hair went from slightly wavy to cute and curly very quickly, without use of chemicals. It has never felt healthier either. I live in the desert, so it is hard to avoid damage. But now, I know all the little tricks and they are so easy. I can't begin to describe them all here.
However, to start (this is advice I gave in the other question too. Lots of curly girls today it seems), if your hair is dry on the ends it will likely straighten or frizz. To get more moisture, rub some olive oil into your hair, cover with plastic wrap, and leave for an hour. Rinse thoroughly. Add some lemon juice to your usual conditioner and use this to wash your hair. Yes, wash with conditioner. Curly hair is more porous and the stuff in shampoo can be hard on it. It will cause frizzies and straightening. Rinse lightly, leaving a bit of conditioner in. To dry, scrunch your hair in a towel. Don't rub or twist. Just scrunch it like an accordion toward the top of your head. Next, put some gel in your palms, rub together, then scrunch it into your hair as you did when you were drying. How your hair looks wet at this point is how it will look when it dries. Doing this regularly will encourage your curls and make your hair feel great.
Now, go find that book at the library to see what you think. [ blwinteler's advice column | Ask blwinteler A Question ]
